Learn how to clean your solar panels and maybe improve the performance of your solar system. I clean my panels once a year but if your area has infrequent rain or a lot of dust you may have to clean more often. Be careful when in high positions and take precautions not to trip on wiring or slip on wet or soap covered surfaces.

This makes me want to ground mount my system when the time comes. Especially since I live in Buffalo and we get snow.

Ground mount does have some advantages if you have the space and can secure the panels from damage. Thanks for watching.

Good advice. I cleaned my array about a month ago and got 20% increase in performance. Apr/ and most of May I never went above 4KW .... Went to 5KW on the first sunny day after cleaning them with water and soft brush. UK Based.... Worcester

Clean solar panels with soap leave a thin layer on the surface, that's why you felt the panel so soft. This layer of chemicals is gonna stuck the smuts much easier. The right way to clean a panel is with water or DI water.

If you had a 2 mw solar farm to clean, and two water fed brushes, what would the water required look like? What would be the ideal GPM to be economical yet effective (maximum efficiency with low labor inputs)?

Thanks for the video. Do you know if solar panels crack with thermal shock (cold water in hot temperatures) and if so what do you do to prevent that? Thanks
@LandingZoneHome
@LandingZoneHome Год назад
Solar panels should handle anything Mother Nature throws at it except hail. With my experiences I wouldn't worry about cold rain on a hot panel. Thanks Max for you comment and hope you had a chance to Subscribe :)

@@LandingZoneHome Thanks for your response, but I was getting at when you wash your solar panels is it safe to wash solar panels with cold water in hot weather or will it cause thermal shock? @LandingZoneHome
@LandingZoneHome Год назад
Not sure what PPM is, I used what we call tap water in the US. Thanks for watching.
@JohnSmith-pk5xg
@JohnSmith-pk5xg Год назад
@@LandingZoneHome it’s parts per million (PPM) solids in tap water. It’s the hardness in tap water. There are water testing devices used to test water harness for drinking especially during water filter changes for reverse osmosis & whole house water conditioning or softner. Tap water with hardness (high PPM above 100) in it ruins Solar panels ( creates films ) decreases PV performance

Got my window cleaner to bring his eqpt. pole not long enough and he was a litle afraid of climbing the ladder so I climbed the ladder with his brush and he held the ladder. did one side of the roof on a cloudy colder day about 12 degrees. Used my water hose which just about reached the apex of my roof when I was up on the ladder then used his water supply distilled water at the end. There was load of yellow / green lichen or algae type stuff in my water butt when I finshed. It wasn't visible on the panels originally. I've had the panels about 20 months now. My surrounding neighbours roofs have lots og lichen/algae on them so would expect it to start building up on my roof / panels as well. a 20% improvement already. Will be doing the other panels on opposite side of house when the window cleaner bring his kit around again. I suggested he invest in a longer pole to reach the panels from the ground instead of using a ladder as much easier and safer all around. Definately do it on a colder cloudy day!
