Thanks for putting together something like this. I'm still very much new to charcoal and the video was great! (And a top-ending.) Thanks to your videos, I had to get those wood handles too! 🤣
thanks troy for the video.. wow those are some good looking grills for how old they are..goes two show if you take care of your weber kettles they last a while..thank you
THANK YOU! This worked! After the first round, I sprayed some oven cleaner on the inside, waited 15 minutes, and was able to remove a whole 'nother layer. Q: How did you get your razor to move so fast?! 😅😅
I've been scraping the inside of lid of mine for hours 😅 it's my first try and doing this! The whole thing is caked with the really hard crusty stuff. It's fighting me back!
but the blade, must flex by making pressure? then following the curvature of the bowl? I imagine that the corners of the blade would scratch the porcelain polish .. I have never used a scraper for this purpose or others and I do not know how flexible the blade. Do you recommend a type of scraper or particular blade?
it doesn't damage the bowl. Porcelain is very hard and as long as the edge is pressed flat there isn't any issue. It needs to be a flat scraper blade, not a utility knife blade.
Window cleaning suppliers produce a specialist scraper tool (for scraping crud off windows that the mop-and-blade can't shift). These tools are ideal for this job, and are ergonomic, which will help in long-assed scraping jobs like this.
Do you know if they make those scrapers in anything less narrow? 4" seems too wide to flex to the curvature of the bowl. They do look A LOT nicer than the crappy one from harbor freight!
Weber Kettle Club... Yeah, you can buy half and (much rarer) quarter size ones... at least you could get those ones from specialist trade suppliers here in the UK when I ran a commercial window-cleaning company, but that was 17 years ago, now, so I'm kinda outta the loop these days. Do they have professional window cleaners in the States, or do people just do their own home windows and get staff to wash commercial premises windows? Here in the UK window cleaning can be quite lucrative, because traditionally most homeowners/businesses hire people/companies, so trade suppliers with such specialist kit, whilst not common, were not hard to find.... I only mention it, because if it's the same in the US, it shouldn't be overly hard to track down a trade supplier for window cleaners State-side... hope that helps.
Thank you!! We do have window cleaning companies here, but I believe they're mostly B2B. I'll hit up some specialty stores (or websites) and see if I can get ahold of a better scraper! Thanks again for the tip!!
Weber Kettle Club... No problem. I've just had a quick look online at some suppliers here in the UK to see if smaller scrapers are still an option, and they seem to be still available in the 1.5" size, but nothing smaller that I could see (like I said, they were always a bit rarer).... At least if they sell them here in the UK, you know there's a more than good chance you'll be able to get at least a 1.5" one in America. Good luck.
Question: Today my Weber bowl was catching fire - from a build up of grease from a few big bbq gatherings. Is it safe to allow the Weber Kettle to just burn off or will this cause it to warp of be damaged in some way? I can’t seem to find any videos about whether letting it burn off is safe. Thanks for the help!
Get a plastic putty knife and scrape all the grease off and into the catch bowl at bottom vents. Get some Dawn soap, water and a sponge and give your Weber a basic bath. Do this on the patio or driveway coz there will be a lot of grime. Use a BBQ wire brush to clean your grate off. You'll be good to go. I did this to my Weber kettle a couple of days ago after 2 years doing nothing. Probably a couple of hundred grills and smoking sessions. Good 'nuff.
spoonfishing thanks Spoon, I ended up using oven cleaner and my power washer. Thing is brand spanking new now. Gave it a real hot burn after just in case there were any chemical residue on the grills (not sure how there could be with 1700 psi hitting them) but better safe than sorry. No more grease fires!
Thanks for the video. I purchased my first Webber Kettle last year and I'm enjoying it very much. I was lucky to have found what seems to me like an older webber kettle. This is how I ran into your video, I wished I would have looked before I began to restore the kettle that I found. But, I would like if you check out my video of that kettle and if you can give me your input into on whether it is a Webber or not. Thank you very much.
Why does everyone let their lids get so dirty and have to deep clean them?? Isn't it easier to just clean them down after each use? It takes me about 10 to 20 minutes and I never have to scrape like that. Oh I see now at the end... these are used kettles that you bought and have to clean out. I get it now.
Hi Gerard. I usually avoid oven cleaner because it's stinky, requires a ton of waste water to rinse, and it ends up taking even longer than just scraping with a razor scraper.
i just cleaned mine right now using a hose, degreaser, and a plastic scrub brush with a plastic scraper on the other side. i dont want to ruin the finish with a razor blade like this yahoo is doing..
Really? You must have some seriously, stubborn dirt there. I boiled water inside my kettle for about 30mins, & most flaked off effortlessly. For the more stubborn dirt, I used a wire brush drill attachment.
