The "Service Engine Soon" light came on our 2011 Nissan Altima so I headed to our local O'Reillys to have them read the computer. O'Reilly's offers free check engine light diagnostics. They will read the codes and then help you research exactly what the codes mean. After connecting the OBD-II they pulled the code P0101 which says that the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor is not performing correctly or has gone bad. The first thing you should try is to clean the MAF Sensor since the replacement part runs about $150. Usually a quick cleaning will remedy the situation, specially if you find that you have a real dirty air filter. It only takes minutes to do and the light will automatically cut off most the time. Sometimes you may have to have it reset but nothing another trip to O'Reilly's wont do.
