Learn how to properly clean a veteran headstone using D/2 Biological Solution. D/2 is the product used at all National Cemeteries to clean more than 3 million veteran headstones. In this video, Trae Zipperer, Founder of Honor Your DNA, demonstrates how to clean a veteran headstone by showing the tools, supplies, and techniques required to transform an algae and grime covered veteran headstone into a respectfully clean monument. All veteran headstones located outside National Cemeteries should look as though they too belong in Arlington. Trae Zipperer has initiated an objective for patriotic Americans to clean every veteran headstone in America by Memorial Day. This video will serve as a detailed informative guide for volunteers to watch before cleaning their first veteran headstone. Once a veteran headstone has been cleaned properly, the volunteer should mark their calendar to return one year later to spray the veteran headstone with a coating of D/2 Biological Solution as an annual preventative maintenance plan.

The title of cleaning a Veteran’s headstone stopped me in my tracks, because I was never aware that the government gave a choice of having a real stone headstone OR the typical flat bronze headstone that the government supplies. I am wondering when they started giving the widows an option. As of 48 years ago this month, they were only doing the bronze flats. Thank you for YOUR service AND for honoring the veterans, Sir. ❤️

To clean all the veteran headstones in my local area cemeteries, I stepped up to lead the effort by scheduling veteran headstone cleaning events. Super easy to do, but somebody has to do it. Volunteers who showed up represented a diverse group, including school aged children. I hear many good ideas from viewers, but my response to each person is the same. Get out there and take action. I don't remember now if I had permission to clean any headstones in that cemetery that weren't government-furnished veteran headstones. The government doesn't provide the spouses headstone, so even though the stone may appear identical, the spouse's stone would have been privately purchased and therefore not fall within my permission obtained from the cemetery to clean veteran headstones. I have to be careful not to overstep my bounds with the cemetery if they allowed me to clean veteran headstones. Once the cemetery sees the good work without any harm done, they may expand the scope of their permission!
@KenzertYT
@KenzertYT 4 месяца назад
Is this video endorsed or sponsored?
@theyfaceeast
@theyfaceeast 4 месяца назад
No endorsement. No sponsor. To some, I would say most, the American flag is sacred, a symbol of our sovereignty. When we see the flag in distress, for example hanging by only one grommet, or fallen, the flag is to be rescued. We rescue the flag when no one is watching, because it is the patriotic thing to do, the right thing to do. The same mindset applies to veteran headstones, because they are sacred, they mark sacred ground. A veteran headstone covered in biological filth is in distress and must be rescued, even when no one is watching.

We haven't forgotten that France helped us win our independence! My grandfather returned the favor when he stepped off the landing craft at Normandy. I'm not sure where you can purchase D/2 Biological Solution in France, so visit the manufacturer's website at D2bio.com. They sell the product through distributors, so maybe they have a distributor in France. I'm sure they will assist you. I spoke with a woman cleaning veteran headstones at one of my events. I recognized her French accent. She said she was from Normandy and her grandfather had been killed in action during World War I. We all have a personal connection to military veterans. My great uncle was killed in action during the Battle of the Atlantic. He went down with his ship, his body never recovered, but his name is etched on the wall at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial in England. I requested a photo of his name. They fill the etched names with sand from the beaches of Normandy before taking the photos. This is an example of the measures we must take to honor our military heroes. The least we can do is clean their headstones. Thank you for joining this cause in France. I am grateful.

So if I can find my ancestors buried in Europe, their headstones will be 250-400 years old. Getting permission is the first step before cleaning headstones, or anything else in a cemetery. Do No Harm is the motto for preservationists, so a good cemetery steward will say NO until they are comfortable you will Do No Harm. My Father served in WW1 in the British Army, Every year when the VFW puts out flags they put a British flag for Dad. They even took a US star and ground out the S and brazed in and made a K for the UK and put in at his stone. They totally respect him and I want to Thank them for doing so. David Kerr 1892-1974 God Bless you Dad.

God bless you and your dad Phil. What a wonderful tribute to your dad when they created a UK flag holder for him. Many of my ancestors originated from the UK dating back to as early as 1631.

Outstanding! I saw the results of an Eagle Project while cleaning family headstones in a cemetery near Charlotte, NC. The scout researched each grave to identify all the veterans and then installed a historical marker type of sign with a map of the cemetery with the veterans clearly marked. He may have also installed flag holders at the veteran graves, but I'm not sure who did that. He didn't clean the veteran headstones, but maybe he has plans for that next.

In today's world, someone would see a person hanging out in a cemetery and call the cops. Even if they could clearly see no harm is being done.
@Nexuhss

That’s more of a statement about those who harm cemeteries than the people who are hyper vigilant by reporting suspicious behavior.

I hang out in cemeteries all over my city and never once have I ever been bothered by anyone, and certainly no cops have been called. Are you speaking from your own experience or from a belief you're projecting onto others' experience?

Thank you for caring about our veterans final resting place. They gave so much. We were raised to clean our loved ones stones, and if we find ones that had been over-grown..we clean those, too. We found a tiny stone of a 5 year old with a picture of little boy blue. Never would have seen it if we didn't step on something hard. It was totally overgrown. We dug it out and shined it up. R.I.P little boy blue.

Thank you for sharing your cemetery visit experience. There are so many grave markers beneath the surface now. I am not a fan of ground level grave markers, because they disappear so quickly as they settle into the ground and get covered by leaves and grass.
@missingutah

@@theyfaceeast , thank you sir for your good works. I don't like the ground markers either for that same reason. Unfortunately when so many children died in the 1918 influenza , that happened alot. My gram lost 3 siblings and I have to keep the small markers from the overgrowth. No one should ever be forgotten.

Great video! Another useful tool in my headstone-cleaning bucket is a thin plastic spatula or pancake turner. A headstone covered in moss can be cleaned well by saturating the moss with water and then using the plastic spatula to gently scrape under it and the moss will come off in sheets.
