I just bought a yashica electro 35 gt and found this video with the purpose of cleaning the view finder. This video was simple to understand, not only did I clean the view finder, but I also found the red battery check button that was missing when I purchased the camera. I also replaced the light seal that was located on the film rewind lever and the light seal that was on the red and orange indicator lights. Thank you for making this video, loved simple and straight to the point.
Good instruction video. However, I’d avoid touching / cleaning the diagonal beam splitter, it’s very delicate and has a surface-coated gold layer which can easily be removed if you clean it. Just use air from a blower brush.
I have this camera because I took it from my Dad's cabinet. And later years I just found out that it was actually my Grandpa's favorite rangefinder during war - which he already passed a long time ago because of a massive car accident. My dad said when the accident happened there's nothing left except this Yashica who was still left safely and peacefully inside his crashed car.. Tons of thank you for this video that I finally have the courage to open and clean my Grandpa's camera viewfinder, almost 6 years I'm taking pictures with full of dust viewfinder.. so I just want to say Thank you thank you and thank you!
If it still works... you can continue to use as-is, but if it's at a point where the focusing patch is not working and you can barely see anything, it might be time to clean it
5:51 I accidentally closed the back door after opning the rewind knob. I'm out of options to get it opened. can I please have any suggestions how to open the back door?
Bummer :( Try to put the handle back onto rewind knob (by turning it clockwise on the threaded area and then pull the knob out, you don't need to thread it all the way just enough to grab it back up. Otherwise, bring rewind knob to your local hardware store (Homedepot/Lowes/Ace) and find the correct threaded screw, and use the screw to thread in and bring it back up. Alternatively, use something really sticky to just temporarily glue onto it to pull it back up.

Actually you shouldn't clean the refraction mirrors for the range finder as they have a special coating on them, only the glass lenses on the external edges of the body. This model of this camera was made from 1973 to 1978.
