Most people use alcohol and Q-Tips to quickly clean their games. I used that method for a long time, but found that it didn't really get my games all that clean, as I would have to repeat the process the next time I wanted to play that cartridge. NES games are of course particularly troublesome, and this method that I now use is much more reliable, while still not using an abrasive cleaning agent like Brasso. I did not "invent" this method, but I honestly can't remember where I heard or read about it.
It is important that you use the right kind of eraser. It needs to be a white, plastic, latex-free eraser. It should not be a pink eraser, and it should not be a white "soft" eraser. Staedler and Pentel both make the correct type of eraser. I put a link to the product on Amazon below, but it will be cheaper if you can just find this at a local store.
