Omg, you have solved one problem I was having, not only with my Instant Pot, but also my rice cooker. Getting around and inside the sealing ring with a foam paint brush for food and residual moisture. You are amazing. Thank you!
You answered my question on removing and installing the sealing ring in the pot and I am having fun with my 3 qt. Instant Pot. Thanks for sharing these important tips with us and I hope you and your family have a great weekend.
Yeah I agree. Done many many of your recipes and all turned out great. Some I slightly changed spices and amounts to my taste but they were all great following exact measurements too :-) Man, that peanut butter fudge cheesecake. ... Just wow. Great stuff Jeff!!!
Last night there was steam and condensation on one side of the lid. I was ready to get rid of it out of frustration. Thank goodness you mentioned the solution in this video. Thank you!
Great ideas for cleaning the gasket. I usually just give it a rinse with hot water and leave the lid on the handle to dry. The smell has never transferred to the next meal. I clean the inner pot with baking soda and a little bit of water. Works like a charm;) Have a great day!
I’m happy to report I finally bought an instant pot!!!! Plus I also am happy to report the rolled pork roast today was awesome! I also wrapped up the carrots and potatoes each in aluminum as you suggested.... the flavor of both was out of this world! My hubby was very happy with our Sunday dinner!!!! Thank you so much.... watching your videos made me able to try this!!!!
to anyone I know who purchases an instant pot I refer them to your website - great recipes and great info on how to use the instant pot. Thanks for all your hard work.
Love you, love your recipes. Both my husband and I have used your recipes and our picky teenagers love them. Who knew I’d be able to make food that everyone would like! Plus, you make me laugh which is a bonus. Please write a cookbook. You’re brilliant.
Hi Jeffrey. I love your videos. I’ve had my pot now two years. Still love it. I have been using those sponge paint brushes since early on. I bought a big pack and shared w my IP friends. And I laughed about the cord loose ‘what’s wrong here’ segment. Same thing happened to me. I thought I had broken my pot.
Thank for the Great info. I made a recipe that didn't completely cook in the stated time. I made the mistake of stiring the pasta into the rest of ingredients and cooked 4 minutes longer. Well, that burned quite a thick layer on the bottom. Ugh! When cleaning, I used a plastic pot scraper to get the bigger chuncks off. But, still lots of burnt food was there. My tip: Put 1/4 cup dishwasher Powder in pot and add 2 cups boiling water. Sir to dissolve the powder. Let sit a couple hours and stir/brush around with dish brush. If there is still some stuck, let sit a couple more hours or overnight. Everything came off and the pot was shinning without much labor or any scratching! I have used this technique to clean Le Creuset ceramic iron pots, slow cooker, cookie sheets, etc.
I recommend getting extra sealing rings. I just bought a set and they now have a red/blue set (genuine IP brand) which is awesome. I use my original for meats because it already smells like it lol. Blue for veggies and red for sweet things like cheesecake and creme brulee :-)
I've wanted an instant pot for a while but after watching your videos, I immediately ordered mine from QVC, it's still in the box because I haven't seen my model demonstrated. Thank you for this video, it helped a lot. I love watching your videos, you should be on TV, great personality, keep up the great work, much appreciated.
I love QVC and buy a lot there. But they have a IP that must be specially made for them. I put it back in the box. I like my original IPots. I have the 8 Q and I use the little one when it’s just me. I’ll probably gift this QVC IP. I just didn’t like it.
Hi Jeff, great video! One more tip people might not know. Always check that the pressure oin pops up before the timer starts counting down. If it doesn't, the countdown will proceed, but the pot won't be sealed and your food will not cook right. I think this is especially useful for beginners. P.S. Your channel is my very favorite Instant Pot channel. You are a treasure to all who watch you!
Someone may have also suggested using baking soda and a little water to clean the pot. It is old school but doesn't scratch anything and cleans so many things.just add enough water to some baking soda so it becomes a loose paste and rub it on the pot to get rid of those dulling marks on the inside of the part. Then you can just rinse it clean. Hope this helps someone! Love your channel and bought your first cookbook! Plan to buy your new lighter step by step cookbook next!
Just received one as a gift. Been binge watching your videos, lol. Using it for the first time today. Thanks for the info and recipes! Have a Happy New Year!!
I bought an Instant Pot on Valentine's Day for myself. Still playing around with the time but all in all not bad. I've made a roast, ribs, meatloaf using your recipe. By the way, sooooo glad I found your canal! Anyway tonite I'm making pork roast and all this steam is coming out. You guessed it, seal not in right. Then I found this video, after the fact. Well you know what they say, you learn from your mistakes! My pot has been soaking for a couple hours now.Lol! TY a new follower.
Thanks to your intro to the Instant Pot video I was able to dive in and make the most incredible food! (I also appreciate how I don't have to speed up the video because you don’t speak super slowly like other RU-vidrs. YES). Thank you from Texas! You’re awesome 😎
An alternative method to cleaning the inner pot is lemon juice and baking soda. Use about 2 TB of baking soda in a wet pot. Gently scrub with a dish cloth and then add the lemon juice. Swish it around with dish cloth. This will foam. Allow to set 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse well :)
Happy New Year, Jeff! My IP was new in the box for two years (yep) before I found your videos!! Now, I can't learn and try enough with it! Thanks for always being so thorough with everything!
I bought 3 seals! One red, blue and clear. Red for chilies, blue for stew and clear for chicken. That’s it. I do clean them as well with vinegar and let it sit with water in the sink.. buy the way great channel.
I may be your biggest fan. Your recipes are so outstanding!! I just got my IP about a month ago. I have been using it almost every day. It doesn't matter what I cook, I serve it up to my husband and he literally says "Wow!" after every bite....so delicious!! Thank you for all you do!
Shelley9090 the hardware store like Ace if you have one nearby has them in a bag of 5 or six They are useful for lots of things (painting included). That’s where you’ll find them. With painting accessories.
Some of the answers I had already figured out like the plug on the pot probably plugged in. I thought the worsted, but a quick check on the internet was successful. The spong brushes are incredible, the bar keepers friend, vinegar and air is very important. The best is the spoon!
Love your videos, good info and easy to do recipes that are delicious - I was not sure I would use this pot too much since I tend to buy a lot of kitchen gadgets but often don't use them much, but I'm using this Instant Pot all the time and enjoy your recipes - THANKS!
Hello Jeff, I do not have an Instant Pot ....yet...but, I tried your Tuscan Sausage, spinach and potato soup....OMG!!!! AMAZING!!!! Thank you for that recipe!!!
My step mother is intimidated by the ip. She got one and had to have my husband walk her through how to use it. The smell from the quick release for ribs made my parents house stink...sadly we couldn’t blame that on the dog. I have the ip lux and I ordered a second insert in stainless steel. In that one usually I make anything rich like tomato based stuff, chili, pasta sauce, etc and the darkest colored one that came with my model for stuff like rice or chicken and stuff like that. I find it’s a process of try and fail or fake it til you make it to figure out how long certain things take. So far most things turn out ok. I love these videos and learning something new everyday. Thank you for your informative videos.
I'm building up my courage to **actually** open up my Instant Pot (bought it from Costco on sale back in September 2018!) and use it. Gotta watch this video a few more times.
Start with something simple and that is cheap too. Mashed potatoes. If you use the Yukon gold ones you don't even need to peel. Just cut up in semi large pieces (6 pieces for medium potatoes, quarters for smaller ones) put 1 cup cold running tap water in bottom of pot, put your trivet it (or steamer flower folding thing which is awesome and cheap), throw potatoes in and cook high pressure for 8 min. Quick release (let pressure out right after 8 min is done and beeps) and voila, perfectly cooked potatoes ready to mash!!!! If you mess up some how, not sure how, you're only out like $1 for the potatoes you used. Just try again. Can totally use russets too but have to peel (or not if you like the thick skin they have) Well actually the first thing you should do is just put water in the pot and set for one minute. Then you'll know if you put the ring in correctly because it'll hold pressure. Then quick release after the minute and it beeps at you. Then do the 🥔's
@@byDsign yes you have a trivet. And a couple utensils and a condensation drip container. The trivet isn't very fine like a steamer basket to keep the potatoes pieces big enough bit to fall through. But yes. Open it. Have fun. It's a blast!!!
@@2010stoof .... OKaaay.... feelin' a bit mo' courage seepin' into my veins... LOL. I know I'm such a wimp! But I witnessed my mom's horrible experience with a pressure cooker. That's why I'm so skittish. I've got a bunch of sweet potatoes in the house too.
@@byDsign understandable. The old ones on the stove were able to explode if not watched properly. However the instant pot have multiple levels of protection to guard against that. There are release valves just in case something happens but with all the levels of protection nothing will. You can read about the different protections, but you're safe. It even knows if you didn't put enough water in and all the water turns to steam with nothing as liquid. You'll get a "burn" notice and it will shut off. I can't speak to other pressure cookers, but instant pot as a company took many steps to ensure safety.
Good idea with the little "sponges on sticks" to clean under the groove. I take my stainless steel chopsticks or my plastic citrus starter and wrap in a damp paper towel and wipe around. That works well for me too.
Good points about this phone and the groove on the lid to stand it up! Also, I always keep citric acid in my spice cupboard for adding to recipes . I have since found out that it’s a great agent for cleaning especially the stainless steel in the bottom of the Insta pot but a teaspoon works and you can always find it in your bulk spice department, plus it’s cheaper than barkeeper.
Additional tip for the sealing ring, wash after every cook then dry and rub down with veg oil. This will keep it flexible and stop it from trying to get out of shape. the oil also acts as a lubricant to ensure you get a good seal. I do this for my stove top PC and if I don't do the oil I'm practically guaranteed a seal blowout (annoying!).
sunlight will also bleach the discoloration of the ring. I know this is off topic but I cloth diapered my kiddos and when there were stains on the white cloth, the natural sunlight bleached them right out. you can just wash it with regular soap and water and place it in the sunlight. outdoors is best due to the fresh air like you mentioned but in a sunny window will work as well:)
very good tips! i have an Elite EPC 414 4qt pressure cooker that i am having a tough time finding a 22cm/8.66 ins.gasket for it? any suggestions? Thanks
I just opened my Nutra-Pot 6 Q. cooker. I have been trying to learn how to use the cooker from video's like yours, thank you! Are any parts of the lid to be cleaned other than the seal, if so how would you recommend that they are to be cleaned and how often should they be cleaned?
What size pressure cooker do you use?? What size pressure cooker did you write yor cook books for?? Have you used the 3qt pressure cooker??? Would you recommend it?
I have the basic 6 qt. The instruction booklet inferred, but didn't say outright, that the lid was dishwasher safe. So I called Canada. Instant Pot said that everything non-electric (everything but the base and the cord) can go in the dishwasher. I also take out the silicone ring and just heat it in the vinegar to get every part of it clean. Then you can add some baking soda to fizz up and clean the liner.
Dude!!! You just won a billion points from me! I LOVE the paint sponge idea!!! YES!!!! Hope you both have a splendiferous day!!!!! Ok...so I’m not really sure what a billion points means to you... 🤓
Jeff, i have a problem. My instant was not sealing. I unplugged it and adjusted the seal. When I plugged back in nothing happens, no lights or anything. Thoughts? Oh it is the Instant 6 qt. Duo. Thanks
I hate the gunk that builds up around the top down in that groove. Thanks so much for the foam paint brush tip! I've been cramming the corner of the dish sponge in there.
Thanks for your wonderful video tips etc. I’ve been using bar keepers friend for years-the best cleaning product in my kitchen. Do you know if the instant pot rings fit a breville Insta pot? I’m having trouble finding breville rings even on their site. Also, would a instant pot brand interior pot 6 qt fit a 6 qt breville pot. Again thanks.
Are you supposed to remove the steam release handle and float valve before washing the lid in the dishwasher? I just started using my IP today and noticed in the Care & Cleaning instructions “ remove all parts from lid before dishwashing” Also are you supposed to wash the steam release handle and float valve after each use?
I have a question. I was using the steam function, as you had suggested, with vinegar to clean the sealing ring. I set the time for 2 minutes. About at the 1 minute mark, the pressure release knob was releasing some of the steam. Is this normal? By the way, the other night I made your instant pot roast in this new Instant Pot. This was my first recipe that I made in it. It was GREAT! Thank you for that recipe.
