Here is the link to the key cap puller you will need: geni.us/keypuller The keyboard featured in this video is a Corsair K65 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard: geni.us/corsairk65
a really big tip that i recommend for the reassembling part is to do the bigger keys first before the smaller ones. So for example you should attach the space bar, backspace, left and right shift keys, capslock before doing numbered keys and letter keys.
I have the K70 Vengeance, and I didnt use to clean it, long story short i have it for four years now, but some keys are utterly bugged. When I press S for instance, it also activates all the keys in the s row (asdfghjkl; and caps). So does the W, Z, Home and a couple others I cant remeber. Did I lose my KB? Can someone shine a light on me and tell me there is a way to recover it? Pls, I need help.
I really enjoyed how clear and quick the video was. By keeping it at 5 minutes, you made it much easier to follow and rewatch! With a new keyboard, I'd give my old one to my brother. He's almost 10 years old, and I think it would be an amazing late birthday present :)

Even if you swiffer parts of it daily and use compressed air... they all seem to eventually get like this if you have pets. Great video, most people need to be aware of this to keep their keyboards lasting as long as possible.
To remove any lose debris underneath the key caps.. you can also use a hair dryer on the cold setting, on a low airflow setting. Works a charm! Just lay it on the floor first.. then hoover up when done!
Honestly, there was so much I enjoyed about the video. My keyboard looks like a hairball, and this helped me so much. I've had my mechanical keyboard for around 5 years now and I'm surprised it's not dead yet. (I bought the cheapest one I could find of decent quality). With the new keyboard, I would be so happy and would be able to work so much faster.
For anyone now watching this - do not use the type of keycap puller shown in the video. Use a wire keycap puller to ensure you do not damage your switches or keycaps, especially if you plan on doing this often
thank you mate i just started pc gaming and ive had this logitech g512 keyboard as a gift since i was like 13 but never had a pc to go with it until Christmas last yr and now ik how to clean it ill make sure to watch this every time i need to give it a good clean
just cleaned my keyboard for the first time thank you for the guide im gonna be coming back everytime i do it lol and maybe ill make a chain of replies'
Just a small tip. You can use hot water and even boiling water, the plastic used to make keyboard keycaps (ABS or PBT) melts on 200°C+ so you're safe. It will get rid of the grease and dirt much quicker and better. I did it myself and the results were great.. As for cleaning the keyboard itself, water is sufficent in most cases, but if you spilled a sugary drink or beer on it (like I did) you'll have to use alcohol to clean it. I have a Corsair K95 with PBT caps and I spilled beer all over it. I thought I'll have to throw it away because almost every key was sticky and would either get stuck when I pressed it or would be hard to press because it was already stuck..
I spilled caffee on my hyperx alloy fps bro and it stops working sometimes, like it breaks connection.... I dont know if its dead, should i buy new keyboard or what
I would worry about the letters wearing off rather than the keys literally melting. Especially since half of the letters on my keyboard have already been reduced to indecipherable blobs just from my sweaty hands
@@madman19979 what a fun little game of what letter is this XD. on a side note you can buy keycaps online, the ones i own have the letters go all the way through the cap to allow rgb lighting. my friend just picked up auhigou keycaps (or however you spell it)
@@madman19979 Exactly what happened to my old keyboard, literally half of the keys where missing their letters. On the bright side I am now really good at typing without looking at the keyboard and have memorized where every key is.
Wdym took you 20min? It took you 20 min to clean the whole kb or just the keycaps lol. Just asking cause his said u should wait a coupe hours for them to dry.
@@kingkiller_bg428 removing the keys, cleaning the actual keyboard with Q tips etc. You’re right, the drying process took a while, but I was working so it didn’t matter. I should’ve included the time it took to dry and put the caps back on lol. My bad
Quick tip: Don’t use isopropyl alcohol instead of the water/soap Technique. The dust and Grime will basically just clump together as a layer and still be on the keys
For those without key-cap pullers, I suggest getting a wire key-cap puller instead to prevent scratching the caps. KBDFans and NovelKeyz usually have good ones. Ducky and Varmilo keyboards include them in the box.
@@ZTGOfficialYT Honestly rather I wasn't. I don't even leave the house to begin with anyway. And the government here in Australia sucks, thank you very much.
@@thefiresworddragon927 how do you feel about them shooting them puppies? I also find the curfews in Victoria and NSW rather amusing, the virus is apparently nocturnal.
Thanks for this. Just got a keyboard from a family member (originally in a work place) and it is FILTHY like there was a full 2 minute noodle in there like ew
When using a q-tip, always use alcohol solutions as they dry significantly faster, as well as introducing little to no damage to delicate and or electrical components
@@wojtekpolska1013 The top of the keyboard is often meatal. What are you talking about? Most if not all mechanical keyboards I've seen have a metal top.
One additional thing I recommend is when the caps are off you hold your keyboard upside down and make sure there is an area underneath where you can wipe the dirt away, when holding your keyboard upside down you tap on its backside and dirt may come out.
I'm an entry level mech user. Was thinking about to clean it for the very first time and I happen to find this video. The instructions are fairly simple and straightforward. I will give it a try when I am free. Thank you for sharing the tips to clean our keyboard!
@@CreatedTech I have the Tecware Phantom RGB 2020 Full Size with Outemu Brown switch. I bought it since August 8. In the future I might get a TKL mech with linear switch since the numpad is kind of taking up quite some space on my desk :D
@@heatpal8786 no. It will not. Thats just an old wifes tale. I even vacuum mainboards all the time. Nowadays components are much resillient to that type of stuff than they use to be.
@@heatpal8786 you're not even touching the board. just the switches. im pretty sure you can dunk switches under water. there is no damage that could ever possibly be given to a keyboard by a vacuum when you're not even touching the board.
Wow someone who actually understand how water works! For some reason so many people think if you run water into a full vessel it'll just bounce off the top, it's weird how many people don't realize that water fills from the bottom up.
Thank you so much bro, I've had this Logitech G910 since the day it released and haven't cleaned it until now, it was absolutely disgusting but it's so much nicer now that it's done
I mean, I'm a translator so I know type all day, but my fingers just... they where they have to. If you ask me where a specific key is located, I wouldn't be able to reply xd
I have a Corsair mechanical keyboard too (K70). The keycap puller came with the keyboard. One thing you missed was removing and separately cleaning the wrist rest (mine had a lot of gunk underneath). It's a little tricky to remove this part. You have to bend the rest down almost 90 degrees (push it past the edge of the table), and then push it straight down to release it. Also, I used a plastic food container with a top to shake the keycaps with more agitation.
huge help for me. too make the drying process quicker, you can use a blow dryer. just make sure it is on low, and the heat is on warm. if it is too high, the keycaps could melt
very useful, i was just wondering how i can clean my caps 😂 ive only had the keyboard for a month or two and i keep feeling the need to clean it every tuesday 😂
You just earned a like and sub thank you so much my keyboard was so filthy that the dirt blocked some of my keys but now it’s clean and everything works fine keep up the good work 👍
I regret pulling the keys with my fingers, got a couple cuts while doing it, watching your video made the other parts easier because right as I tried to clean it, it would never come off
Instead of brushing the top of my case, I’m going to unscrew the top off and wash it with a sponge and dish soap. I find it easier and more effective. Also very easy to dry
@@Lilo_D._Boom youve probably done it already but the ley caps themselves are just plastic there fine to put in soapy water just make sure its not bleach and that they are dried
I deploy my duster cans at the end of each use and I've never had to take things to this extent lol! Keyboard still looks as new as the day I bought it 😉
I forgot to take a picture of my keyboard before taking off all the caps. So when i was done cleaning the keyboard I just re-arranged all the letter caps to my likings, or at least often used.😁
compressed air for the drying and cleaning of the board definitely speeds up the process, and using an alcohol to clean the board is much safer than water since it would evaporate much faster and not run as much of a risk of a short when you power it back on.
“It’s a good idea to take a photo of the keyboard before removing the key caps” Created Tech: *takes a photo of the keyboard after 7-8 keys missing* Me: *removes all key caps then takes a photo*
Thank you so much! This was very helpful, for my mechanical keyboard is not hot-swappable (i found that out the hard way) so i wanted to know a way to clean it without taking the switches off.
For what cleaning solution-- search DAS keyboard cleaning, they explain all the types of plastic and printing etc, and which products you can safely use for what. Water(especially if soft/distilled) and a lil dish soap usually safe. Alcohols can be safe but not always. Dont f with the spacebar and other larger keys if your board has metal attachments. It's not worth messing them up.... Compressed air sprays can help, especially if your keyboard has more nooks.
I usually skip around tutorials Cause they are needlessly long and introduce a lot of talk outside the main tutorial. Whatever formula you used it worked cause I did not skip around and i watched the entire thing and retain all the info in one sitting. Thanks for the great tutorials
"As you can see, after 2-3 minutes with a Q-tip, it's essentially brand new!" Day 51. I have just finished cleaning the numpad area. The keycaps have been soaking for days, calling out for help as they writhe in the soapy water. The main area of the keyboard haunts me. Dust and debris stuck to the board, seemingly glued on. Pain and suffering is the only thing I know. How long will things last, how many Q-tips will be abused in my hands. I can't see the end of the path.
As a touch typer, I don't need to take a picture, because I have been typing for 10 years with my old keyboard and thats why I always memorize the whole layout. Ps. I use Dvorak layout.
If you want to see an ELECTRONIC DUSTER cleaning this keyboard instead, watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-htjMfRgZ2Ac.html
You can buy a small manual dust blower to just blow through the keyborad every once in a while. Affordable and lasts forever. Just place the tip between the keys and give it a powerful squeze
I mean, yeah...those points where kinda obvious. But I still watched the video, cause I really like it. You have a great voice and the overall quality was very nice.
Nice. Im going to have to do this to all of my keyboards. My Leopold Mechanical keyboards all came with those nifty keyboard covers. it's a thin piece of clear plastic that's molded and shaped with a 3d impression of the entire keyboard layout. so its fits perfectly over the entire keyboard to protect it when not is use.
Vacuum with the soft brush attachment is perfect. Not sure why people think it will damage it. Motherboards, keyboards, GPU’s vacuum, no worries. Just don’t go hard at it
