How to clear your cache on a Mac - There are a couple of cache folders you need to clear on a mac. See how to do it and delete your trash securely. ~/Library/Caches Claude Pelanne
This is by far the most useful tip on clearing the cache on your mac! I managed to clear out over 100,000 useless files and freed up over 300Gb of hard drive. My mac loves me!
Hi Clause, after watching so many videos on how to fix things on a mac, I remember this video in particular as being a favorite. Here's why, the speed of your voice is perfect, your voice not intimidating nor boring, and you expertise is always perfect. After watching so many videos I just wanted to let you know how great your videos are. Thanks!
There are a few components to Mac speed ups. One plan I discovered that successfully combines these is the Achak Speed Plan (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most helpful resource i've heard of.Check out all the great information .
7 years later. I'm going to try.... The entire world is under quarantine lockdown because a terrible pandemic, the world is going to hell, economy tooo but I still need to clear my Mac....
This video was very helpful! My MacBook wasn't responding, I had to go in safe mode and follow your instructions, now it works like new! Thanks a lot for shearing
Claude, I just cleared over 100,000 cached files on my mac. It was taking up 210gb and just bogging down my machine. Thank you for this vid and the clear and concise explanation. So helpful.
Thanks for a great video with clear instructions. You didn’t assume knowledge or needlessly complicate things. It takes a lot of work to do that and make it look easy. Thanks again.
Thanks once again Claude! This is a saver! You were concise, and slow! The mark of a great professor. You are interested in teaching, not speed to show off your knowledge as others do, and fail to transmit knowledge! Joe and Regina
Thank you so much Mr. Pellane for posting this! This video has been very helpful for me. I've been a windows user for so long and always maintained my PC using several methods. But after getting my new MAC, I needed to know some simple methods on how to clean my computer. This video definitely is easy to follow and very useful.
I just got rid of more than 90GB. It showed up as "other data" in my flash drive and I wasn't sure what it was. Now I know. And all of my programs and files still work, which was my biggest fear. This made my day. Thank you!
Thank you Jorge...I made these videos to avoid forgetting how I did a fix...turns out they are helpful to anyone who needs to solve a problem...I clear my caches once a month... be well
I do not have the record… but 18,000 plus files being securely deleted. Very informative.. easy to follow. Thank you for that mac tip.. I'm such a newb and happy to learn what i can
Thank you, Claude. After routinely clearing cache and cookies per your video, Cache and Cookies folders are then retained under 'Recent Folders', which is immediately above the 'Go To Folder'. . . hence , a quicker access to 'cache' and 'cookies' for clearing/deletion. Sincerely, 27" iMac 5K retina desktop, macOS Mojave version 10.14.4 updated 04.01.2019. Take care and again thank you
I never ever comment, but THANK YOU!!!! They constantly find ways to make managing our machines impossible, it's our machines, after all. very frustrating but now super relieved THANK YOU!!! - you cant even find this user-friendly explanation on their site or on the computer even after typing Caches...
Hello Mr. Pelanne.... Your video helped me a 1000%... I had over 6,600 of trash in the secured trash... Now my system acts like i just purchased it ... Thank You again i just Subscribed.
tons of thanks, claude. my mac has been real slow lately (couldn't even load chrome without my cursor turning to rainbow spinning wheel every single step!) and this helped a lot - turned out i have over 41k files to delete.
Not sure if this is going to free up space for me. But thank you either way, this video was really well done. You're easy to understand and follow. thank you!
Why did I not know about this? I've had my MBP for 7 years. I've upgraded RAM from 2GB to 8GB and the HDD from 256GB to 1TB...all done myself. Lately its been very slow and even freezing. I rang Apple Support and paid AUD$39. There was 24,000+ files in the cache. The lady from Apple Support was very surprised. Thanks for the vid Claude!
+silverbloke1 Glad the video helped and I'm surprised the person at Apple was not better informed. I learned about this from an Apple genius and it still works. I average anywhere from 15,000 to 45000 files depending on how much I wait in between cache clearing. Thanks for the comment and be well.
thank you king!! it’s deleting over 57000 items and it’s still going, hopefully my computer is faster after this. i’ve never done this and i’ve had my computer for 6 years 😩
Thanks for share! Clearing caches on Mac manually is a common ways. For people who want to save time to clear Mac from time to time, , some tools like MacClean allows users to clear out not only the caches but also cookies with a few clicks.
Hi CLaude, That was very helpful. I was able to clear the first cache. However, have upgraded my Lion to Mavaerick a while back and now when I try to clear the next cache, it says "Application Support" can't be modified or deleted because it is required by OS X. What shall I do about this?
+Cecile Raynor there are some files that may not be deleted. it happens to me. I am still using Yosemite. Just leave them there. Some of the operating system may run under cached files and that is why they won't delete. I hit the skip button if it is offered and otherwise just leave the few that won't delete. Hope this helps.
Thanks for posting this. I knew there had to be an easier way. You're correct, when I upgraded to Lion, I could not find some of the Cache folders when I would go through Library. Thanks again!
Hi Kent - Great question and I had the same thought. When my machine was really slow I took it in to the genius desk and they told me to add memory, clear the hard drive down under 100 g and clear the cache of the machine. I did all three and my machine worked like a charm. When in doubt go to the mac store and ask the genius. lol. Stay well.
Thanks Claude one of the best tips I've seen, i just did it and had over 18k items. I never done it since i owned this machine and wow the internet is so much smoother and faster. Why don't people ever mention this? I guess im not that Mac savvy because on a PC its not this in depth to remove cache.
Thank you so much for providing great information that worked! Other videos I viewed was basically pitching an app for you to buy. Thanks for helping us out. You've gained a fan and subscriber!
thanks so much for this video! i wonder how much disk space i'm freeing by deleting the 6k files from my cache. is there any way to defragment the mac drive?
Hi fazapops- Thanks for the comment. I was having a hard time getting it straight so I went to the Mac store and had them show me the solution. Then I made the video. Glad it helped.
Seemed to work OK. Like you said, I could not delete some of them out of trash, so I rebooted and then I could. Puts some the folders back. They were a lot smaller though. My old iMac seems to be running better. Thanks for the video. Brent
Brent Woodfield Hi Brent. My iMac is an 08 and still keeps ticking. I reboot when some files don't empty from the trash and that does the trick. Thanks for the comment and glad the video helped.
Hi jazzfire - Caches simply store pages that load from your own machine to save time. The reason to clear a cache is that there is often some of the cache pages are no longer relevant and take up memory. So clearing a cache is not about losing data since the data in online. I wouldn't worry about losing data by clearing a cache. Hope this helps.
Vlog Epicness You should notice a difference once the folders are cleared. But I always empty the trash as a matter of course and reboot the computer. But that is my own way of operating mostly out of habit. It really depends on how many files you have loaded and the amount of activity you have had on your machine. It's different for everyone. Thanks for the comment and be well.
