I really like how you went into injuries caused by drop knees and how to avoid them. Great video.

I rarely comment on youtube but I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your channel! I'm at the point in my climbing progression where I'm no longer 'new', and I've absorbed a lot of different things from climbing and climbing youtube. But I want to specifically say that your channel packages so many essential things in such a thoughtful and pleasing way! Such calm, fluid storytelling, great advice, great outline & explanation, and great production/post-production. And a bonus, your voice during your voiceovers is super soothing to listen to, but also plenty energetic and engaging. We see you!

I just found your channel, and I have to say, this is all so helpful!!! I just started rock climbing as a hobby (top rope and bouldering), and I cannot wait to try out these techniques!! Great explanations!!

I employed these tips a bunch top roping overhangs (and even some not overhangs) today after watching! Love this video! One thing I’m getting hung up on: I’m seeing this as a way to reach the next hold. Once I’ve got it, I’m not quite sure what to do. My natural tendency is to square back up to the wall.

This video has really helped me understand how to use my hips, I tend to just power through with my arms and plenty of people have told me I need to use my hips more, but I didn't really know how, but the explanation and the visuals, I think I get it now, thanks

My knee pain mainly comes from either being uncoordinated or a foot slip causing me to ram my knee into another hold

There is a tie between my two favorite types of climbing. Slabs are a favorite because I'm good at them. Steep overhangs are a favorite because I'm bad at them.

i LOVE this! our weaknesses tend to be "low hanging fruit" that we see greater progress in than the things we are "good" at!

So is drop knee just kind of like a deeper twist lock?
@BetaBoiBrandon
@BetaBoiBrandon Год назад
I didn't realize that the first technique had a name, but 'twist lock' is definitely fitting. Great explanation for it! Fun fact, though: the twist lock checklist might actually only have 'engaging the left arm' as an optional component for climbs with ~easy~ enough feet where you can use similar 'swivels' as the drop knee (just lateral as opposed to vertical) to make it so you can get in the same body positions with only your legs, thereby saving energy in the upper body and fingers. Anyways, sorry if I'm geeking out too much, great video :)
@boulderbaddie
@boulderbaddie Год назад
Thank you for adding nuance to this principle @BetaBoiBrandon! There are definitely situations when the twist lock doesn't require an "engaged arm" (e.g when both arms are above a climber's head when initiating the twist lock). Like Movement for Climbers mentioned in their recent video, principles are general and don't quite explain every exception! I really appreciate you adding your insights! I love geeking out about technique too LOL

The most common name of using the technique is called "flagging" and there are several variations. The goal of flagging is to enable you to get balance create force to help you rotate your hip in! absolutely a key technique for climbing!
