When you prune your fruit & nut trees this winter save the trimmings and turn them into another tree. You can take small cuttings from year old branches and plant them in the ground after a little preparation. They will be identical to the tree that the cutting was taken from.

There's a super pretty tree behind my unit in my apartment complex. My boyfriend and I just bought a house and we move out next month. I was thinking about propagating that tree since my new backyard doesn't have any trees. Very useful info. Hopefully, the little guys make it.

Did you do it ?
@IHaveNoLaifu
@IHaveNoLaifu 5 месяцев назад
@@albertoaguirre9539 I did but ran into some issues. The house I moved into came with a greenhouse and it turns out that thing is a death trap. It's killed 99% of the plants that I've put in there and my little tree was not that 1%. I might try again though and let it grow outside this time.

We are going around looking for "wild" trees that have no drip line /watering or been fertilized...and taking cuttings from them. Then sharing the trees with neighbors. The goal is 50-60 hardy trees per acre to clean the air and lower the temperatures in our town. So far, Russian Olives and Locust trees are doing the best. NO Fertilizers and only need to water for the first 3 months.

I have a fingerlime-tree which has overal very thin branches. Also the branches don't start big and become thinner, almost like a raspberry Bush. Will it work with such thin (1-2 mm) branches? Also on the websites it says that the younger parts of the branches don't have leaves. Mine has tons of small leaves til the end.

my local farmer prunes his cherimoya trees in spring, would I be able to propagate from one of these cuttings like done in the video or does the cutting absolutely have to be cut in winter like it says in the description?

most trees go dormant in the winter time then start anew in spring with new growth by doing this in the late fall the new growth will be roots ( if you are lucky) i have the best luck rootin catalpa trees also black walnut and a less luck with pecan trees about 25%

What if it's a tree that's grafted on to a root stock? Will it produce the fruit on the tree, or the fruit of the rootstock? If it's the fruit of the tree, I won't be able to grow certain varieties in my grow zone. If it's the fruit of the rootstock, those are like a crabapple and not worth growing.

Why not if the cutting keeps the same DNA as the tree it was gotten from? Its fruits should look and taste the same in that case I think.
@muffemod
@muffemod 4 года назад
@@scoopdg if you put it in a different soil it will affect taste, also if you water and feed it differently it will affect the fruit.
@scoopdg
@scoopdg 4 года назад
@@muffemod Yeah, but the change of taste is mild, it will never be completely different from that of the "mother" tree, DNA prevails above all that.
@frankdavidson9675
@frankdavidson9675 4 года назад
the same dna is in the limb as the mother tree it will be exactly the same that is why so much grafting is done you can root a pecan nut and it will make a tree at a certain age cut that stem off and add a limb of your choice tree that tree will go to be just like the mother tree this is done on large scale at big groves
@frankdavidson9675
@frankdavidson9675 3 года назад
if you take a cutting off a peach tree and root it it will be exactly as the mother tree the tree dna is in the limbs not in the seeds
