Oh my gosh THANK you for this video! I thought the clown crate was useless when I was looking at all the talents and not actually using them. I gotta know though, can someone hold a clown crate while you're in it? And can you put any/full amounts of stuff in the crate before hiding inside?

You are not immune to melee attacks in Clown Crates. That's wrong, the enemies above just don't reach you here. A crawler whose attack range is further down can attack you with a melee attack and get you out of the crate. Also, as noticeable in the video itself, it is important that you are not seen going into the clown crate, only then will you be ignored by creatures! Otherwise just not.
