But it does. It kills it almost every time.. mosses i can find outside foul up the terarrium and i end up with mold, bugs eating the plants or and he moss dies very quickly and turns brown before molding and i have to do the entire thing all over again
I'm going to attempt this today! I started a terrarium two weeks ago with no moss and it's doing well! I couldn't find any at any nurseries but found a spot on an old building near me 😁 can't wait!
@@mr.mediocregamer9653 great! I have some that's growing in a bin that's at least two inches long 😅 I lost the first batch I harvested (moss got all brown and mushy and the springtails didn't seem interested in it) so I cut it up and added it back into the substrate. But the most recent batch is lush and green; this method definitely works 👌🏾
@@mr.mediocregamer9653some tips; using just sphagnum moss is good for substrate but if you have an actual mix made/bought, use some of that because it'll grow WAY faster. Also, don't cut it too close to the base of the mosses or it'll kind of die back and take a while to start again!
fantastic! perfect to share with my daughter too. legend. I just need to know how to make more moss spread (i've head about blending it or breaking it up) ???
Some purified drinking water will kill plants and moss too , quickly because of some mineral they add to it. Better off using tap water. Our municipal water comes from ground wells and the only thing they do is add chloramine gas which is easy enough to remove
@@whyguy006Chloramines don’t evaporate out, they actually undergo evaporative concentration. I think you’re thinking of chlorine which will eventually gas off if left to sit out for a few days. Most tap water contains both these days and will be awful for your moss. You can probably get away with using your own well water maybe but most people can’t just use the water out of their faucets. Distilled is easy to get and free of additives.
Wish I washed my moss beforehand making an isopod terarrium, everything is thriving, but so are the unwanted fungus knats and theyve been laying eggs everywhere😢 I dokt know how to get rid of then without harning the perfect ecosystem established
Get some beneficial insects, i have used nematodes for fungus gnats. Buy some eggs mix with water and then within some weeks they will hatch and eat all the eggs from the fungus gnats but not harm anything else and they are tiny so you wont see them and will disappear when there is no more to eat :-)
@@Elvervind oh I never thought of something like that! Would it still be okay since these are in isopod set ups? They usually eat the moss so I tend to need to replace it
I wanna take some moss from a forest. Can i store it in a closed container until i return home? ( i live in another city) How long would it last that way?
the method only submerges them for a tiny period of time. However, certain terrestrial mosses can adapt to aquatic environments and grow successfully with the right conditions 🙂
