Being a child of the 80's in California, this brings me back collecting records from Record World, Tower Records, The Wherehouse, Music Plus, Musicland, Sam Goody, and Licorice Pizza. ...and Yes, we always took a chance on new music based on how the covers looked like lol.

Agreed! Stariway's a great song but yea give it a break! I haven't listened to the radio in years. There's no point. Especially classic rock stations, what a joke! They have SO MANY songs to that they could play through all the years and genres of music and choose to play stairway, hotel california, comfortably numb and so on over and over and over. It gets annoying! Support local college stations instead!

Alex Ward True. Even Pandora is guilty of this. I've heard Ramble On, Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, Just What I Needed, etc. so many times it's incorrigible. Yes, they are great songs but I don't need to hear i everyday of my life.
@1m2a3t4t5
@1m2a3t4t5 6 лет назад
So f*cking true it actually pissed me off. There really is an endless number of interesting deep cuts they could go for but instead they play the same hits. Of which are Incredible songs often that the radio forces you to lose a feel for, they will kill your favorite song from you. Because if often if you love a song you dont want to hear it on repeat or else it wouldnt be special to you. But I realize that the general public isnt as indulged in music like we are often, they dont set aside time to hear music, so for them its all about the very best and catchiest. These people arent even influenced by music when they hear songs like the one you mentioned, people with less soul and value. I usually want to hear great music in the context of an album or at the very least, Right context in life whatsoever. Oftentimes Ill have my headphones in enjoying/discovering an album with a song I love simultaneously playing on the radio, drives me crazy. Dont ruin my listening experience by shoving music down my throat whether I like the music or not. Makes sense (even if stupid) why so many people began despising radio and any band that would be played on it through the years, ie: the punk movement.

Ive just started collecting, and to be honest I didnt understand the appeal until I held my first vinyl in my hand. Its the feeling of holding the actual physical representation of the music. Almost as if you could reach in the air and pull out the sound waves. Its not like just a bunch of 0s and 1s like on a cd or mp3.

With record collecting, I think the biggest joy is finding bizarre old stuff in the $1 bin you've never heard of and taking it home to give it a try on your record player, not buying stuff you've already heard a hundred times.
@VonneVinyl

Vinyl will always remain a classic format, there's a reason why record labels CONTINUE to spend money producing new vinyl releases, it's definitely a better experience listening to vinyl than playing CD's or using an iPod

I paid a visit to one of my fave old record stores recently and they have a large area full of CD and a much smaller vinyl area and there would have been about a dozen people around that vinyl like bees around a honey pot and not a single person anywhere near that CD section.Quite amazing I thought and seems to me that things have incredibly swung back around to what I thought might be gone oneday forever.Vinyl is just cool and great that it has come back as strong as it has !!

Notice how the Blimp is always mentioned when it comes to talking about music? It does not matter if the comment is negative or positive because Led Zeppelin will always be on top and no band will ever come close to getting close to that peak. Well, maybe The Smiths will be remembered in the same kind of fame that started a few years after Zeppelin disbanded. Other than those two bands, no one will ever be better....Great vinyl store, loved the video.

Want to preserve LPs? Transfer them to VHS tape in the EP mode. Record only on standard tape so the tape won't get snarled. There is no audio dropout. You can get 6 hours. Caption them on the screen with a video camera. And you'd better scour the thrift stores for VHS decks. Look for JVC or Panasonic. I have three JVC pro decks that are in great shape. Run a cleaning tape through the heads once in a while. JVC still mfrs VHS decks, especially VHS/DVD combos. Bulletproof decks!

Major label records from the 90s are often the most valuable because that's when the the big labels were making the smallest amount of them. If you look around you'll see a lot of albums by big name artists from that period which are very expensive.

Yea I own 45, and counting so there lol, just recently started collecting....people ask me why when you can buy a CD or download it? I laugh and say because I want to listen to quality not chopped compressed versions of my favorite music. Im 32 and wish I would have started back in my teens, but back then I didn't realize the quality I was missing when I was a child in the 80's. Music on vinyl is a hundred times better than digital....so sad more people dont understand or appreciate it :(

@anderzom - everybody takes a chance when they are buying it - even if it says mint - sometimes it shows up in a condition less than what it is listed as. every now and then it happens to me. but you can always email the buyer and negotiate to take it back, etc. if not - give them a bad rating. So - to avoid getting burned: check the seller's rating. only buy from sellers who A - have sold a lot of records & B-have a very high rating. like 98% - 100%. of people are happy with their purchase.

Though i wish some of the trendy bands would release actual hard copy cds if the vinyl is gonna be super limited, Mp3 is great, but when played thru a vintage stereo or even loudspeakers, the sound lacks bass and Boom.

Zeppelin influenced Mars Volta and if I had to pick one band that has the balls and talent in true music it would be TMV. Again, it was only a comment and my favorite band will always be the Blimp. I have seen TMV and yes, they are really good. I really dig Cedric's vocal style and Omar plays just a good live as in the studio. "Page of concrete Stain walks crutch and hobbled sway"
