I don't know why, but you made it look more complex than other guides while explaining with simpler words 😅 Thank you for the guide. I am still thinking if I should buy cheshire collimator after my telescope arrives or the stock collimation will be enough for some time. In my country it's easier to get and cheaper than cap as I checked

Hello from India. I recently bought my first GSO 8” dob and while waiting for its delivery, I watched your channel. A BIG thanks for sharing wealth of information and tips on the Telescopes in general, EAA etc. Love your videos, keep up the good work. - a humble subscriber 🙏

This is good. I followed a similar process only with a normal collimation cap. I might check out the concentric one because I can see that would be helpful. The secondary mirror is the hardest part. The primary is easy apart from the fact my arms are not long enough!

to put this in perspective, as a beginner I had a telescope that I was very happy with, it was giving me what I believed where very good and crisp images of the planets. I never even heard of collimation. When I finally checked, it was crazy out of spec. The secondary had the laser pointed at the edge of the [primary and the primary was reflecting the beam way outside of the barrel. Yet I was getting a, at the time to me, satisfactory image of the night sky.

@DobsonianPower 8 месяцев назад
Now you can have even better. But be aware that you might have been using it roughly aligned. The lasers are not reliable.

HI, I have never had collimation problems, but now I find myself, after replacing the refractor with the Newtonian on the star mount, stretching the edges in a different way that I didn't have before. With the Concenter collimator I did everything described in your video, but the stars, as already mentioned, are terrible. What could I have done wrong? Thanks and bye.
@DobsonianPower
@DobsonianPower Месяц назад
That should be coma, normal in a newtonian and the use of a coma corrector fix it. But may be other issue. If you post a picture of the set up and the stars on my discord i can help you fix that
@federicoboninsegna7802
@federicoboninsegna7802 Месяц назад
@@DobsonianPower In the meantime, thanks for the quick response. The coma corrector is there and there is also the right backfocus at almost 56mm (since there are 2" filters mounted in the middle). My setup is as follows: Asi294 camera, home-built field rotator, motorized ZWO 5x 2" filter wheel and coma corrector. The problem is that with the same setup reassembled on the mount after using a 102mm refractor for a period, I find myself with this problem that wasn't there before under the same conditions. I don't quite understand where I should upload the photos for you to see, maybe if you can give me a link to upload them, I'll thank you.

A few weeks ago I started watching your video's. They are fantastic! Now, I bought a telescope for the first time in my life. I will probably receive it after a couple of days. Can't wait to 'connect with the stars' :) . Keep up the good energy and don't stop making these nice video's. Greetings from Finland!

I bought a 8inch skywatcher but I'm so scared to ruin it if I collimate it wrong ;( I tried to align the finderscope with the eyepiece but when I look through the eyepiece it's blurry, is it because it's not collimated?
@DobsonianPower
@DobsonianPower 8 месяцев назад
It's likely because it's too much magnification for the sky conditions. Use a low power eyepiece to check. Don't be scared, nothing bad will happen collimating. You have to do it, you will learn. It's only align 2 mirrors. Take your time to do it slowly.
@miminanaa._

@@DobsonianPower I used a 10mm eyepiece which is the lowest I got🥲, but yes I will try thank you for answering
@DobsonianPower
@DobsonianPower 8 месяцев назад
@@miminanaa._ try that eyepiece with the moon or Jupiter. Does it get blurred?
@miminanaa._

@@DobsonianPower ok I'll try when the sky is clear, since I had the telescope it's only been cloudy here😂 For now I just tried to adjust the finderscope so that the center is fixed on the same object as on the eyepiece. I tried to make this adjustment using a tree very far away but no matter how I zoom in and out it's still blurry. I don't know if I should do this first or the collimation? Sorry I don't know much about it, it's the first time I've used a telescope
@DobsonianPower
@DobsonianPower 8 месяцев назад
@@miminanaa._ i recommend to do it at night, with a bright star or the Moon. i mean the focusing. the collimation at daylight
