How to color your appliances with vinyl car wrap

I really wanted to have a dishwasher that matched my cabinet color, so I ordered custom-colored vinyl car wrap and wrapped the front panels with it. Next will be my stove because I love the look of colored appliances which tend to be way too expensive.

Materials needed:
▶︎ sheet of car vinyl wrap amzn.to/3tADjV0 (there are many colors readily available, the brand I received from the shop is Arlon)
▶︎ sharp crafting knife amzn.to/3xZncnk
▶︎ 70% alcohol and lint-free wipes amzn.to/3f6mVGD
▶︎ professional-grade tack clothes amzn.to/3hgun4K
▶︎ lint-free gloves amzn.to/3f6n251 (optional because I've seen folks on RU-vid apply wraps to cars without them)
▶︎ felt squeegee tool amzn.to/3o2cgAA for vinyl applications, if you are doing something more intricate than a flat-paneled dishwasher, then you will need more different tools to get into the crevices.
▶︎ screwdrivers
▶︎ a blow dryer or heat gun
▶︎ appliance owners manuals

Wow, what a great job you did. I'm having trouble finding a black dishwasher, but my black fridge and wall oven are nowhere near ready to be replaced. So I will buy the st st DW and wrap it in black for now!

This worked so well, we were all impressed with the results. We have white appliances and cabinets, and wrapped a high end stainless dishwasher white, a color that is an exact match in color to the other appliances. I recommend doing a dry run with a block of wood before taking on the major project.

I painted my cabinets the exact colors of your cabinets and ordered white appliances except for the dishwasher that’s working fine,fairly new stainless steel but I wanted it to be white. So I ordered white car vinyl. I’ll be watching this video five more times before I start the project next week. Thank you so much. Looks beautiful.

I’m in the same boat, new kitchen but my old appliances that work fine. I’m going to do this too; not only does it save a ton and money, but the environment too! Happy to know they won’t be going into landfill anytime soon, and others are thinking the same way ❤

Absolutely gorgeous. You did a spectacular job. Love the color. I plan to take a similar approach: greige lower cabinets, white uppers with white countertop.

At one stage when you were doing the toe kick piece I thought it would be easier to make it a design element using the original colour but you worked through it and it looks amazing.

Thanks, I had thought about that as well. I could have maybe used a piece of the molding used for the rest of the kitchen, but in the end I thought it's probably better to use what was made for the dishwasher and the insulation under it.

I don't know if you still answer questions, but i'll answer it anyway: Can I use this vinyl to wrap appliances that will get hot (e.g. toaster, Kettle, coffee machine etc.) ? Thank you in advance =)

Excellent tutorial! Your cabinets are the same color as mine. I need help figuring out where to order the color, I tries the site you posted but I couldn't figure out where to start. If anyone has experience with this please let me know. ❣

Hi there, you can't order it on the site that I posted. It is a local shop to me as an example. Try googling local shops in your area that do vinyl car wraps and call them to explain what you want to do. You can possibly show them my video or even better my blog post. It took me a while to find a shop that worked with me.

Did you ever end up wrapping your stove or fridge ? I am thinking about doing this but would like to be able to do all 3 appliances but I am curious how the vinyl would hold up on the oven door when exposed to the heat of regular cooking . Any update would be really appreciated thanks !

Hi Megan, yes I did cuckoo4design.com/how-to-turn-an-old-stove-into-a-custom-high-end-colored-stove/ The vinyl is made to withstand heat. Cars get very hot too at times. And heat helps the vinyl wrap around the surface. It actually reminds me of shrink wrap.

I'm not sure. You should check with a professional vehicle wrapping service like the one I linked to in my blog post and where I bought the custom-colored wrap. They should know.

Julia, it you are still listening, I have question. I am having new house built. Since I don’t like white and stainless appliances, and I don’t cook much, I am thinking about getting an inexpensive range and dishwasher and wrapping them like this. Do you have any advice about what surface types are preferable for wrapping? This will help me choose my models.

Hi there, I think it should be metal. I know some cheaper models have plastic. These wraps are made for cars which are metal. I know some auto parts are plastic as well but I'm not sure how it would work on plastic. Hope that helps and good luck.

@@juliakonya7266 Thank you for your quick reply. I don’t think the white ones are enamel on metal anymore ever. There is a little part of me that hesitates to wrap a brand new stainless steel appliance. But, I’ll get over it.

@@YudronWangmo to me there really wasn't any risk in wrapping the appliance versus the obvious risk of trying to paint it. It's like gift-wrapping or shrink-wrapping it and can be removed without you ever noticing something was done. I figured that people would never wrap their expensive cars in this material if there was a risk.

@@juliakonya7266 Good point. I just learned that the place that I will buy my new appliances can “powder paint” them any color before delivery. But it costs over $200. I love having options!
