All the steps shown in this video are listed on my blog at erinwrightwriting.com/combine-files-into-one-pdf-in-adobe-acrobat/ . Thank you for watching!
Erin you have a very good channel to helping people with Abode issues but I have one problem. I cannot get my Abode to combines files into one PDF file but it spertate the PDF files so you have to click each icon to see the PDF file.
@@ischoolsg Thank you for watching my video! The location of the Binder file would have been established when you saved the files, so I'm afraid I can't point you to one specific location on your computer. Best of luck!
I actually got it the first time and didn't have to rewatch your video a thousand times. I saw other comments about your calming voice, and I highly concur. I need to check out the other PDF useful tips, so will be watching those here as well. Take care!
Thank you! This was great, so easy to follow. I work with people that don't care to share their knowledge but yet ghost you when you ask them for their help. Thanks to kind/smart people like you, I can learn and do the work myself :)
Ok, I spent far too much time trying to figure out how to do this when all I needed to do was come and watch your video! I am a new subbie now and look forward to to many more of your videos! thanks for sharing.
Excellent Erin...thank you. I'm a rookie trying to combine 3 different files into a book I wrote in libre. Was having so much trouble trying to figure this out. Exported all three to pdf, looks like a simple process. I'm downloading the acrobat program now. If I can add page numbers when combined I'll be all set. Great video. If I need any professional editing I'll hit you up on your website for a quote. Mucho appreciated!!!
I love your lessons. They are very well explained and so simple to follow. Thanks to your great teaching strategy, I was able to overpass my highly destructive mind and complete the work I was required to finish earlier. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching! Once you have combined your files into one PDF, you can edit the text as shown in my previous tutorial ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--zjF5YN26rk.html. I wish you all the best with your PDF project!
Hi Erin - We'll be trying this method next week as our one customer doesn't like having to open our compressed folder of our invoices in PDF format then having to open each invoice separately. We found a free PDF combiner online but it limits the user to just 20 docs. We typically send this customer 50-60 invoices each month plus an Excel doc and a Word doc as billing documentation. Thanks for the video. Wish us luck!
Thanks very much for this video! I got a subscription to Acrobat DC Pro specifically so that I could fill out applications and supplementals for my NSDAR chapter. I'm hoping this works with our forms. Sometimes if I try to edit text within a document, a curvy line sometimes shows up and my typing will go all wonky or uphill. I hope to find the solution to this issue in one of your other videos.
Thank you for watching! I haven't encountered text going uphill, but I suspect you may be having an issue with text overrunning the text boxes. I have a tutorial on working with text that you might find helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--zjF5YN26rk.html. Best of luck!
Thank you Erin. The Adobe feature you demonstrated lets you combine documents placing them right next to each other in the new file. Is there a way in Acrobat to combine files and merge them together when you do? I have two documents that I need to merge together like this. I need to have the first PDF files pages to be the odd pages once merged and the second PDF file to be all of the even pages. I know you can combine the two together and then manually rearrange the pages but the two files I'd like to combine and merge are 2000 pages each. It would take a long time to do that. :)
That is a very interesting question! I'm not currently aware of a way to merge two files and have them be automatically arranged by even or odd pages. However, I will certainly look into it and create a tutorial or post to my Community tab if I find a solution. I wish you all the best with your PDF project!
Hi Erin! Thank you for creating this video! I have combined the files but one of them is much smaller than the rest. I don't know why this is or how to fix it. Any suggestions?
Hello, Sherelle. Thank you for watching my video! Unfortunately, changing the size of individual pages in Acrobat isn't a straightforward process. I don't have a tutorial on that issue yet. However, here are some directions I found that may help you: khkonsulting.com/2017/03/scaling-page-content-in-adobe-acrobat-pro-dc/. Also, here are some directions directly from Adobe for Mac. (These are easier, but I couldn't get them to work on a PC.) helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/Change-PDF-page-size-in-MAC.html#:~:text=Under%20pages%2C%20look%20for%20a,Long%20edge%3A%20Height. Best of luck!
@@erinwrightwriting Thank you! I wasn't expecting it to be this many steps to just to resize a page. I got it now. I appreciate the quick reply. Happy Friday :)
Erin....Excellent video! Thank you. Hey, I went down pretty far in the comments and I didn't see that anyone asked how to create a table of contents. Is this a possibility or should I create it in Word first? My only problem with that is that I'm combing Word docs with existing PDFs to make a Handbook. Please advise.
Thank you for watching my video! Unfortunately, Acrobat doesn't have a table of contents tool like Word. However, you can manually create a table of contents using Acrobat's internal link tool. Please see my other tutorial at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4Gvrcm8QUcY.html for a walkthrough of that tool. If your readers will access the handbook through Acrobat or Reader, you may also want to consider bookmarks as an alternative to a traditional table of contents. My bookmarks tutorial can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OkmZxW2Bdws.html. Best of luck!
That is a great question! I am not aware of a specific size limit. However, I have copyedited very large PDFs and have experienced quite a bit of lag, so it may be an issue of trial and error. One option is to use the Reduce File Size feature in the File menu. I wish you all the best!
Hi, Hegg. Thank you for watching my video. You can add additional files after the fact. You just have to save the PDF each time you make an addition. Best of luck!
Thank you for watching my tutorial. If you use the Combine function shown here, the email would be converted to a PDF. However, if you want to join files without converting them to PDFs, you can create a PDF Portfolio, instead. I have another tutorial showing that process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ol56uq3rkhY.html. Best of luck!
Thank you for watching my video! I am not aware of a limit on the number of documents that can be combined into one PDF. However, I believe the overall size limit is 10GB.
Erin, I have combined multiple PDF's and created bookmarks that take the reader to the specific PDF that I have referenced. My question is, how can the person receiving the PDF open the tabs in a separate window so they don't have to keep going back to the main bookmark, if that makes any sense?
Great question! Tab behavior is determined by the reader's software, rather than the PDF itself. I have another tutorial about how to open links in separate tabs, which you may find helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0l-FrYkeRKs.html.
Thank you for watching! I don't have a tutorial specifically about combining PDFs with fillable fields. However, I do believe the steps shown here should work for those PDFs, also. Another option would be to combine the PDFs with fields into a portfolio, instead. I have a tutorial on that topic that you might find helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ol56uq3rkhY.html.
Hi! If I have two documents which are two different versions of the same document, one outdated and one up to date and use the "Combine" option would it merge them? I mean, would it become a new document with only the missing updates or will it combine both of them with all the repeated information?
That is a great question! The Combine tool combines files "as is," so you will have repeated information if you combine two versions of the same document. However, you can use the Compare Files tool (Tools > Compare Files) to compare the two files and then choose what you want to keep. Thank you for watching!
After you are finished combining all the docs into one PDF, can you create a running header or footer for the one PDF? Also, can you edit individual pages after the combining? Thank you.
Excellent question! Once the files are combined, they should behave like regular PDF pages, so you can add headers, footers, page numbers, etc. Thank you for watching!
When I attempt combining multiple files into a PDF, for example multiple Outlook emails with attachments, the combined PDF displays the attachments in blue hyperlinks. How do I make it so the blue hyperlink attachments are displayed as if I were to physically print them?
That is a great question! Acrobat won't open email attachments, so if you want the attachments to appear as documents rather than links in the combined PDF, you can add each one to the combined PFD as you would a regular file. Thank you so much for watching!
Hi, Clare! The easiest way to add a file after the fact is to use the Insert Page tool or Organize Pages tool. I have another tutorial called "How to Insert Files into Existing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat," which shows how to do both: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3OejZBQXxiY.html. Hopefully you will find it helpful!
That is a great question! I am not aware of a way to automatically create a table of contents page for combined files with Acrobat. If I find a solution, I will be sure to create a tutorial documenting the process. I wish you all the best with your PDF project!
Hi! If I want to combine 60% of the pages from one PDF with another PDF, is that possible? Or must I combine the entire PDF, and then delete the unwanted pages?
Thank you for watching! Rather than deleting the pages after combining the PDFs, it may be easier to first make a copy of that longer PDF, delete the unwanted 40% using the Organize Pages tool, and then combine that smaller copy with the other PDF.
I have an Excel file that when converted into Adobe goes from one page to four pages. How do I combine the four Adobe pages into one Adobe page.........or do I have to start anew? Please advise! Thanks!!!
Hello, thank you for watching! The easiest way to have your Excel file appear on one PDF page is to first make sure the Excel file is the same size and orientation as your PDF page, then make the conversion.
As far as I know, Acrobat doesn't provide an option to create one continuous document. However, you can go to the View tab > Page Display > and then uncheck Show Gaps Between Pages. Best of luck!
I want to submit my portfolio to my employer after creating with acrobat but the keep asking for arobat reader before it can be accessed. Is there any way out of this? Maybe how to convert to Microsoft word pdf, if only it will not loose it’s qualities
That is a great question! If your employer has an up-to-date version of Microsoft Word, they can open the PDF directly from Word as they would a regular .doc. Word will identify the PDF and automatically make the conversion. Usually (although not always), quality is maintained.
What I wish I could figure out is how to take three random sized images/pdf and combine them into one page, instead of having them print out on multiple partially filled pages
Incombining PDFs and then trying to rearrange the combined pages it is very difficult to move say 10 pages from say page 70. to say page 15, because it is very hard to see where I am. the icons are so small. is there a way to make this easier. basically i want to add the 2nd combined file into the middle of thr 1st combined file at at a sub title page. thanks Murray
Thank you so much for watching! I have an upcoming tutorial showing how to insert pages into a specific location in an existing PDF. Here are the basic steps: (1) Open the Page Thumbnails pane in the existing PDF. (2) Right-click the page where you want to insert the new pages. (3) Select "Insert Pages" followed by "From File" (4) Select the file and then select Open (5) Select "Before" or "After" in the Location menu in the Insert Pages dialog box and then select OK. Best of luck!
How about updating page numbers in a combined file? Combine a file, replace the file since there were edits to the source doc but then the page numbers are off in PDF. Thanks!
Thank you for watching! I can't be sure what is causing this issue. However, duplicate form field names may be the culprit. I wish you the best of luck with your PDF project!
