This is Gold. When I started using arpeggios it sounds so much better when you're getting the timing. I just starting playing over one chord, and then two so I can put it together. Playing in a loop with an E major f.ex. And so an A minor and so on. Yes this is Gold and you're a legend ,Steve. Thanks.
one of the truest statements ever made "depending on where we took our lessons". when i was a youngster most of the instruction was based on lessons from those old hippie jazz improvisations and instructors who thought all they should teach was jazz. that was all fine and dandy except i couldn't stand jazz and still can't to this day. your statement was a mind opening one and others watching should take note to not get stuck in a rut. my playing really advanced after i decided i didn't want to take lessons anymore. i wish we'd had guys like you and you tube

Yes sir thanks..i am getting there after 2 years of listening to you my mind is finally getting it. Almost composing my own stuff...it hasn't been easy...but it was easier than once thought...60 years old....influenced by Jimi Hendrix .....it was hard...the video you did...showing the scales in major or minor helped immensely...thanks again..
I know this was 4 years ago, and I knew this was a thing and have done it before, but putting a name and method to what I’m trying to accomplish really helps and is amazing. I appreciate what you’re doing man ❤
I really love that you used E major as the example as there are way too many examples with all instruments on youtube using C Major. Great Video once again steve. As the Great Eddie V said its called Music theory not Music Rules. Its all just theory

17airel Ha...i just started and i am 60...what I did..was have to 2 weeks time..for each method of learning.example..2 weeks of chords..mostly just the shape..and where they are...wasn't concerned on how i sounded..i would have stopped. Then 2 weeks of learning some notes on the fret board..finally..just learned it my own very simple way...counting to six...as I go down the strings..and that it a root..count again to 6 and that's a root...took 5 minutes that way..from the 4 th string count to seven..another root..so I just played the roots of each note..like all Gs all ..As ..all Bs...all Ds... then I picked a style I liked..so it was Jimi I hendrix.....a lot of slides..octaves...hammer ons......until 2 years later...got it...good luck...

You just got a new subscriber. Your 3-note per string scale and arpeggio lesson got me pointed in the right direction. I haven't been able to bring the two applications together,... not, in the way I saw it going together, in my head, anyway. Thanks! Now, keep them coming. The 3-note per string method is under explored and should be taught more. All the great soloists use it.
Always awesome, thank you. On the topic of raised fourth, remember folks, if it isn't in the chord (often 1-3-5), then you could sneak it in there for flavor. If your rhythm guitar person is playing just a "Root + 5th" harmony (often mistakenly called a "5th chord"), you can literally play 6 modes over that (just not Locrian/7th mode, due to the diminished 5th note). So, in a C Root+5th harmony (C G notes only), you can play C-named modes 1 through 6 over it; C Ionian, C Dorian, C Phrygian, C Lydian, C Mixolydian, and C aeolian. Any of those will work (just check with your bassist and keyboardist so that you're all on the same page). :)

Great video. If you play the 1 3 5 a lot and want to change it up, try 1 3 5 with the 3 down one fret. That's a minor. Then also 1 3 and 5 down one fret (augmented) and 1 3 down a fret and 5 down a fret (dimished)

Yeah, so true, scales got to,know em, got to know the fretboard, arpeggios definitely add color. Practicing a lot makes it better to blend these concepts together 'seamlessly'. Something I've been working on myself ( cause I'm lackin ya know). Different intervals and all. Basically I've found in time that ya got to have the tools, but how well they're used comes down to applying oneself at that moment,,playing inspired. And that doesn't always happen, your mind, body and soul got to be in sync, then that flows through the instrument. If I'm in a lax mood and not 100% on it, i think I play like shit, but if I'm feeling really good, or a little edgy or agitated as the days flow on by it reflects my playing, at least on the level of passionate soloing, if I'm not passionate about it it's garbage in, garbage out, and on the other hand, everything is flowing wonderful tags happen, it demands a great amount of attention. Well, we'll all carry on looking for the magic, thanks
Like the H&K despite only owning a Cream Machine from 25yrs ago; that little amp impressed me. How do you like their amps of the last few yrs as I see you're using one? Enjoy your insights. As a long time guitarist in learning and I think no musician ever truly stops learning unless they're complacent with where they're at as a musician whether they be practicing, gigging locally or 'pro', etc., I so often find new ways to view a topic that can help expand my knowledge and thereby, hopefully my abilities. I played years w/o ever studying any theory by just learning cover tunes as best I could and/or the few scale and chord shapes I knew by pattern/name and only really made efforts with theory in the last decade which has helped me break a long held plateau. And, since few apparently think and communicate via words & images like I do, musically is about as far as is too often the case, it always is a boon to see another musician's interpretation of any subject for my own clarity. I really hope that all the young aspiring guitarists that rely on your lessons as a major building block can appreciate the luxury they now have in this age that simply wasn't as readily available when I first started a long time ago in what now seems like a galaxy far, far away at times. And I wish them all the best of what they seek to achieve as musicians and to your music entrepreneurship as well. B-)
I love that Grandmeister Deluxe 40. It's 40 watts, so it's enough volume for a lot of shows, and can be switched to 20, 5, 1 watts, and even off for direct recording (also comes with a built-in red box for cabinet simulation), and a ton more, so it works great for almost everything I do.
