Step 1: Get a whiteboard Step 2: Write anything that comes to mind Step 3: If you like the thing you wrote, go a bit more indepth Step 4: If you like it so far, go even more indepth Step 5: Create a refined concept Step 6: Create a to-do list Step 7: Get to work Step 6229: ??? Or just start programming in Unity and just toy around with something. Also, iterate and change the game concept as you go.
A tip that helped me come up with some brilliant ideas is this: mix some of the mechanics from your favourite games together, and then remove some of the mechanics in favour of your own.
@@roguespartan2854 a fps game with contrasting colors and a mysterious story where the player kills monsters. perhaps it takes place on a planet where only the player exists (in addition to the monsters). focus on the story of the protagonist (the player) instead of the story of the planet or the monsters, adding sensitive and personal traits of this human.
There are alot of people including me who are not creative at all but still want to work in game development field... So it's okay don't worry Brother you will succeed inshallah... I'm also working so hard maybe in future we can work together...
A other good tip is to participate in game jams once in a while, it helps a lot when there is a certain theme to work around and almost always I've been satisfied with what I've created.
Thank you so much, I love to hear from experienced devs in these matters My biggest problem is coming up with ideas, and they are usually never constant, and I give up on them because they weren't right
Hello there! I do research on popular games and come up with game plans of my own. Recently, I have started selling my game plans to game devs like you. Lemme knw if u r interested. 😁
Thanks, man! I liked the video for tip no. 1 alone. It is the best of the tips! Just choose 3 random words and try to find an association between them to give birth to an idea.
I've given up on making game ideas. I had the same idea for undertale. In 2013, I was thinking of game ideas, and I thought of a game I called, "Falling Down". Trevor Spruit, a child, is on his way to school, when the ground crumbles beneath him. He falls into this strange, underground world with quirky monsters, and finds many friends along the way. In the end, they find a way to get out, and the humans and monsters live together. I was heavily inspired by earthbound at the time, and I'm still furious. As I was deep in development, a game, titled undertale, got released. Interested, I researched about the game, and right away stopped development of the game, thinking everybody would just call me a copier.
thats disappointing, i would have loved to see a game like that. maybe you could devolop it into a fangame or something? im sure some people would love that
I chose tip #2 and now I'm making a 2D Star Fox game. There is also a 2.5D mode, but that’s optional. It’s a side-scrolling SHMUP equivalent of Star Fox 64. I draw most of the assets in TerminalMontage style with Procreate. Its also going to have multiplayer in the story, where as the original had only a versus mode. The host plays as Fox, and the other players get to pick between Falco, Peppy, and Slippy. Characters not being controlled by someone are replaced with a basic AI. The rest is just translated over from the reference game.
Yeah i took your advice, and now im making a game about a shopkeeper who is eunning his shop in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and is slowly going insane in the process. And il be damn sure the player becomes mad together with him
I'm so glad you and your sister are finding my videos helpful :) ! And you're completely right ! I forgot to add my own creation to the list :) ! (I'll add that right now) Cheers !
game concept: You play as a torch and have to light your way through a pitch black forest, but every time a level begins and ends, your flame is extinguished, forcing you to play with the environment itself to find fires to light yourself.
I had a dream with once with a pretty interesting mechanic, there would be plants or an object on the ground. In the game there would be multiple players or one person playing switching through characters, and if a/the player looked at a different character in the game, or themselves from a certain angle, it would resemble a certain plant. Then that character would pick up that plant, and if there was only one plant, a door would open, if there was multiple the process would be repeated on different characters until all plants were picked up, then the door would open.
Neat idea: Get 3 people. One person comes up with something like "Explore" another comes up with "red" and another "Cats" So someone makes the first one (type) the second (about the 3rd) and the 3rd (the main character thing)
I tried TIP #1, "Plant", "Blue", "Cat" Result: A cat must find mouses in a very very tall plants maze. He has got 2 minutes to find the most mouses possible. Warning, the plants are very tall!
Lol, i've already thought abouth making a 3D first-person rogue-like, but now i don't know if I should do it as this is one of the ideas given on the video
Hey :) ! Definitely not, go ahead and make it ! There are a thousand ways to make an FPS roguelike ! Your one will be drastically different than everyone elses :) !
This could actually work sometimes! Just give it your own twist maybe make it multiplayer, or make it so they see the game from a different point of view, or change the demensionality of it like he mentioned
thank you for this video. I have a story idea but instead of making it into a short film i would love to turn it into a game although i am totally new to game creation. this video definitely helps.
Tip 5 : Inspire yourself from the real world I drove on the highway, saw the lights. I imagined a game where you repair the lights while traffic keeps riding. The broken light parts don't show the cars. Evade cars and repair the lights. I drove on the highway and saw a broken trucktyre. Immediately I had in mind a game to do a pitstop on Max Verstappen's F1. You switch a tyre, move is recorded. Time goes back, computer plays first tyre you do second and so on. After 4 tyres total recording can be replayed. Slowest tyre is time of pitstop. During vacation a boardgame was in the house we rented. I made a version against the computer of the boardgame. An appartementbuilding is on fire, move a firetruck to the right appartement, pump the water to right level/stock and release the water to extinguish the fire. Too late, appartement burned down. Some misses allowed. A straydog with a loose digestive system making poo each move. A parkkeeper chases the trail to catch you. You only get points when parkkeeper cleans the poo. (Some kind of reverse pacman)
I had one idea of a 3rd person melee RPG game where you control a female character (important to story's symbolism) and you fight 6 different monsters in search of your missing friend as you help a town. But IF you kill the monsters, you progress through the STORY as usual, but absolutely nothing changes or is gainef, no money, no upgrades, no gear, no changes to the town but the minor gratification for a few missions. And how you save your friend depends on your choices
Question: how overused is the 'trapped in a virtual world' concept? Im trying to make a concept kind of based on 'little nightmares'. And this was one of the only things i could think of that didn't completely rip of the 1st game or the 2nd trailer. You'd travel through some kind of screen and enter different games, trying to survive.
Thank you so much! The last tip really helped, because right now, in the world, there is the corona virus, so now I can create a game that is like curing the world of a disease (not specifically the covid 19)!
So. I don't use unity or any proper game engine. But I do code on lua (Roblox.) And this actually helped me alot. I came up with an idea that I usually played with friends 2 - 4 years ago. I started working on a project called "Bulldog: The game." It's pretty much bulldog but in Roblox. It's very simple too. The game runs on a simple code that makes a code function that freezes a player once they touch another player who is "it", Once the player is frozen a GUI (Text) Appears on the top saying "PLAYERNAME IS FROZEN! (Countdown from 10" The players have to run and save the player while not being touched by "it" otherwise a second countdown appears. If the countdown goes down and no one saves the player, the player is now "it" ---------------------------------------------------------- The players have to run to the other side avoiding "it" btw. Once they do they get awarded points if their succesful. The bulldog gets auto-switched every 5 minutes. This video really gives good ideas! Reccomended!
@@33s60 Lua is a coding language. Although its known as scripts. Many Roblox developers earn thousands of dollars a year from games. So yes. Yes it is.
okay, so i did the 3 words thing and I got: Craft, Thunder, Ring. so maybe you have to survive on an island with endless thunderstorms and find a ring to stop the storm and fight the final boss.
I have the idea down sort of, i want to create a 2d side scroller relaxing pixel art walking sim, basically. Problem is, that sounds so relaxing that it'll put the players to sleep lmao... How do i not make it boring? Would really appreciate suggestions/advice!
Okay so this is my idea for a game I’m taking different animal species mainly ones from Africa Asia and North America and pitting them against each other. One idea is that they are mutated and anthropomorphic. So missions will take place pretty much all over the world as you assemble your team to establish dominance over the new world
So I have a story happening right now. I have a competition for 1 GRAND(which is a lot of money for a person my age). It ends August first btw. I used the 3 word thing and I got paper, poor, ablaze, so I thought of a poor piece of paper who is in the top floor of an orphanage for poor children whose family couldn’t afford to keep them. You are in the top floor and have to make it to the bottom and escape without catching on fire. I sure hope this wins :D
i know it's been a year, but dude, i really love you, you help me, you draw super well AND YOU LOVE HOLLOW KNIGHT, ORI AND THE BLIND FOREST JUST LIKE ME I HAVE NO WORD YOU'RE MY TWIN xD
My game idea is a new car mechanic simulator but tuning and racing so when you buy performance parts you have to install them also you can participate in races
Emiro You are a samll little dot monster, you are placed on an arena. Each round different kind of enemies come and each round you need to draw whats needed. You cannot kill the enemies.
You are a orange artist who has been tasked with creating amazing works of art while the size of a mouse and you first have to do parkour to get up to the canvas and draw the painting shown as accurately as possible (I just put my imagination in that)
