How to complete the NEW I-134 

Very informative video! I'd like to clarify one thing. I think you missed reading the instructions on Part 4, Page 8 (25 mins timestamp), that part only has to be filled out IF the beneficiary filled out the form themselves. If it's the sponsor, that entire part has to be skipped (put N/A of course).

Hello Brit, great video, one of the most useful in RU-vid for I-134. At 20:00 you filled Part3 Q.20 with the "Total Sponsor Annual Income" when the question is "Income contribution to the beneficiary annually" which I understand is how much of the "Sponsor Annual Income" will contribute to the "Beneficiary Income Annually". Maybe you answered based on previous versions of the I-134.

20. Full name of asset holder (you or your household member) is not a bank. It is a person who owns that account.

Thank you so much for this video, the most confusing one was Item 15 where it talks about income, I was very confused on whether or not I was supposed to put my entire income, if that meant I'm giving everything to my partner or if that just means it's what we together will be making Some people said put $0.. but that seemed concerning to say I'd be contributing $0 to financially support my fiance.. so this makes more sense to put my current income and our total income

Great Video! The video has been very helpful! I did have a question. I have my cousin who is applying for a K-1 visa. However, she is unemployed and doesn't have any income; would she leave the employment and financial section blank and have her co-sponsor also fill out an I-134 (co-sponsor)?

Thank you for the video. it is very informative. I just had a quick question? on Page 6 of the form I 134 Financial information. if you are paying child support and alimony to your ex wife. Am sure they have to be listed in the column as your dependent (your child) and someone you financially support (ex wife) You will total both payment numbers in the yearly category, I would assume. my question is do you deduct that total at the bottom from your yearly salary? or you just leave the total income as it is with no deducting the amount you contribute to the alimony and the child support? The total number of dependents will be 2 I would assume since you financially responsible for both.

Where do the instructions say that social security retirement income is not accepted? This is a pension, not a means tested welfare payment

It's a simple form. However, other sources on the web claim the sponsor is liable for at least 24K per individual (beneficiary). If the beneficiary fails to receive the agreed upon amount, they can sue you as the sponsor. Additionally. If the beneficiary goes on government assistance, the sponsor could be held liable and forced to repay any amount given. All of this is waived should the beneficiary become a US citizen within 10 years. I am trying to get a US government response on this.

I wish you'd have at least addressed the K-1 Visa for Fiancee. My case isn't friend or brother or anything but a K-1 Fiancee Visa. Support has to be shown for Fiancee as well and everything directs me to the I-134 support form

I'm a little nervous because I am filling this form out for my friend's friend and his wife. My friend who I worked with for many months is from the Ukraine and presumably had somebody fill this form out for him when he came here. So he got ahold of me recently and wanted to know if I would be willing to fill this form out for a friend of his who is Ukrainian and needs to stay in the US, as well as his wife. I have never met either of these people and only know them through my friend who I worked with. I am glad that BritSimon said this is not legally binding, and I really want to help these people, but I'm just a bit nervous about the risk that I am taking in terms of agreeing to financially support someone on this document. Does anybody have any additional input or thoughts on this? Is this a good idea or is it a bad idea?

I think part3 section 14 should be "0" because the last column is talking about the annual contribution to the beneficiary?

Thanks so much this is a great video! I have my K1 interview in 3 weeks and this has helped me identify some errors in how we completed the form. really appreciate your help. I just have 1 question - if we have a joint bank account in the US and in my home country (Australia), do we list the joint bank accounts as my assets or my partner (sponsor's) assets in the form?

I have a few questions please. I answered "yes" to question 18 as I have previously (2012) submitted a I-134 for a K-1 Visa (were now obviously divorced, she never applied for citizenship and no longer resides in the US). Do I use her original name or her married name (my last name)? Second, my first wife did not need a K-1 Visa to reside in the US (Japanese) so we bypassed the K-1 process, but after marriage when applying for a green card we needed to submit Form I-864. Do I need to list her as well? Thank for your video!

I have an interesting question, the beneficiary is from VENEZUELA and has a passport issued on 2009 so the expiration date was on 2019 can I fill the form I-134 using this expired passport? , A remainder*** consistent with the National Assembly decree of may 21 2019 certain passports remain Valid. A Venezuelan passport issue before June 7 , 2019 ( even if expired before this date) without extension, is consider a valid and unexpired for five years beyond the expiration date printed in the passport, in this particular case how fill out that part of the File ??

Awesome video Mr. Brit Simon, I have waited a minute for this content. I have a question. my mother is retired, got enough in the bank to meet the federal poverty guidelines 2023, and receiving SSB. She filled the I-134a for my nephew. Knowing the fact that she is retired. Do you think it is slightly for the case to be denied. Filled date was January 15, 2023. However, she received the Receipt Notice stated they received the form. We are not sure how long is the process time, but my nephew said , other people who is sponsored, been approved and travelled. Any input is much appreciated.

Question - The mailing address category is locked to only a US type address. For eg- I can't enter a 6 digit Zip code or change the country. What do I do if the beneficiary is from a different country?

Hi @BritSimon I have a question about this form, if my husband is filling the I-134 for me, since he is the financially supporter, and I am the beneficiary, do we each include each outher as a spouse in the income tables, or since it says ' (do not include any individuals named in Part 2.)' are we just going to not include spouses and do my husband as 'self' with 0 dependents, and me as 'beneficiary' with 0 dependants? Hi Simon, in part 3 item 15, does the sponser list their income in the last column, or the contributions to the beneficiary? I think this should be $0 rather than the income the sponser makes, as you suggested. Am I wrong?

Hi Brit, my host sponsored someone last year(2023). Now we are in the fiscal year of 2024 and the form asks whether my host has previously submitted the form. In this case should he indicate yes or No? It's a bit confusing.
