Great in depth coverage of all the questions, i was confused about the previous immigration applications question given that i already mentioned that i got ILR. Thanks for putting in the effort for making such a good presentation, really appreciate it.
Hi Nick, the part where you have to input the biometric permit details. Do I ignore it if I have BRC and not BRP? Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi, Nick, this is so helpful, thank you. Can I ask a quick question: the actual citizenship application website (Documents checklist) says bank statements and household bills aren't suitable proof of residency; the Annex A policy paper (on gov.uk) says bank statements and household bills are proof of residency. Not confusing at all. Do you know which is right, please? Thanks again very much.
Hi - thank you for this. Is the reference number for the indefinite leave to remain under the EU settlement scheme the share code or the “our reference number” that the home office states in their letter. I’m a bit confused
Hi Nick thanks for the informative video, really helped me understand the process better. Quick question. I'm an EEA national with settled status, would an annual bank statement or an account summary covering a 12-month period, showing payments received or spending in the UK for 5 years be enough to prove i've lived in the UK or i need letters from each employer i've had in the last 5 years?
Hi,just wondering when is the application dates? Is it the date u pay online and submitted or is the day u start filling out the form.please i need to know if possible.
Hi, Nick, thanks for a video. I have a question: can I apply for citizenship after feeling all requirements with a valid ILR but an expired foreign passport (I entered the UK with this passport)?
Nick ,thanks for the work.God bless you🙏🏾.Just did my naturalisation application, never came across the question have you had any other work over the past 10years? Am a bit confused to why I wasn’t asked that question.can someone help please .Thanks
Hi Nick, First of all, Thank you so much for detailing out all the sections so we can navigate through our own Application. I have couple of quick questions if you can help answer, 1 - For Previous Visa Application, I have had all together 6 past application (including entry clearance and ILR applications). However, I do not have records of the Reference number as well as the dates of these application. I have left these options empty. This makes the entries look like multiple entries with my name, that it was made inside UK and that fingerprints were taken. Does this crates an issue for my application? 2 - I have a British spouse however, I got my ILR through 10 year long residence. does this have any impact on my application type as I am clicking yes on having a British spouse? Please help :)
Hi Karim, thanks for your comment. I can’t provide advice on specific applications here. Happy to review the application if you feel you need that level of support: www.edgewaterlegal.com/one-off-consultation
Hey Nick, quick question regarding the following: "Requirement to have been in the UK on the first day of the qualifying period If you are applying under section 6(1), you must have been in the UK exactly 5 years before your application was received. For example, if your application is received on 05/01/2022 you should have been physically present in the UK on 06/01/2017." At which point of the application the date is fixed? Is it when the payment is done? Thanks for the great content!
Good information and well received the details Hi nick I would like to know if I can send the documents the same time as I submit My application or shall I wait 48 hours before biometric appointment Thank you
Hi Ali, thanks for the feedback. At the time of writing, the documents can be submitted via the UKVCAS portal at any time after the submission of the online form up to the point of attendance of the biometric appointment (or provision of the info via the app)
hi, thanks for this video! I was going through the policy guide on absences in the last 12 months from the date of application they say the applicant should not have been out of the UK for more than 90 days while the policy has a small clause indicating that the "Total number of absences normally disregarded" is 100. I will be on 103 days when i apply. If my application is refused by the case handler, will I get my application fees refunded in full? thank you!
Hi nick , good presentation. Am due next July 24 , my passport expired in jan24 , unfortunately due to political unrest in my country, I can’t issue new passport . The embassy here in uk will provide sticker for 1 year extension together with letter explaining y , can I use for ILR , uk citizenship
My wife has just completed her UK Citizenship application form online and paid the fee (currently £1630) She had previously photocopied all relevant documents, thinking it would be a simple case of adding this to the application. She was then directed to a separate site .. UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services where she had to open a new account. It is asking her to make an appointment, which would cost an additional £143. Is this appointment essential, or just some form of assistance, perhaps for folk not having access to photocopiers etc. If she has to attend, that’s fine .. she just doesn’t want to be wasting £143 Thanks !
Hi, this might be the wrong place to ask this, but i need to know if there's anywhere or anyone who provides help with this process for free. I already can barely afford the application process (I'm a uni student) nevermind a lawyer. I need help because my situation isn't clear AS I was born in the UK and never left and my mom came here as a minor and lived here ever since with no UK citizenship. There's more, but it's too long for here. Any advice is appreciated
Hi Latrenzo. The availability of free legal advice for citizenship (or for immigration) applications is fairly limited. You might try and contact your local Citizen's Advice Bureau (www.citizensadvice.org.uk/) as a first port of call. We also provide a one-off consultation service where we can advise on your situation, and the most appropriate application you might make (if any), although I'm afraid we have to charge for this service. Further details are here: www.edgewaterlegal.com/one-off-consultation
8 years in the UK being out 2-4 weeks per year. No plane tickets cannot remember all my holidays. Are HMRC records good proof, why should I look for letters from my previous jobs. P60s ? Called them yesterday they said ... no no ...only for a 90 day or 270 day period ..... Idk .... Maybe rent statements ....
Hi, i have one question about the reference declaration form. Is it possible for it do be done fully digitally - hence take a photo "passport like" and sign the PDF directly and upload that file or does it have to be printed, manually signed, an actual photo glued to the paper and only then scan & upload? Given the whole thing has been fully digital I would be surprised if that's the case. But if you could clarify this it would be amazing. Thanks!
Hi .I am wondering if you could clear me .I have been working in UK for 10 years.I got ILR now planning to apply for British passport. My question is about 10 years back history .I don't know the exact date of the start of my jobs but I know the months. Can I put just months in that question?
Very informative video. Im an EU national. After submitting all scanned documents and also scanned copies of the reference forms on the online portal and going to the centre to verify and get your picture and fingerprints and waiting for the decisions, during this wait 1) do we have to submit the passport original and the hardcopy of the reference forms filled by post. 2) Would they send out a biometric card (since they took fingerprints and clicked photo) in a couple of months or would you get the biometric card after you get an invitation for the ceremony. I'm confused about this Please advise
Hi there. 1) You don’t submit your passport to the authorities when applying via the online process- it is usually checked at the biometric appointment, but you get it back after the appointment 1)b) you upload the referee declarations with the rest of your supporting docs and 2) in a naturalisation application you don’t get a biometric card, you get invited (if approved) to a citizenship ceremony and where you get a certificate of naturalisation
Hi Is it possible to travel abroad while during this process of waiting for the decision of the naturalization and also if you do get approved can we travel while in the process of making the passport as well. Please help 🙏
Hi Zack, so what is currently happening when you log into UKVCAS is that they are checking whether you are eligible for the app, or whether you have to provide biometrics in the normal way (ie by appointment). This process of confirming which one you have to do - at the time of writing - is taking a week or so on my current cases
@@edgewaterlegal8228 Hi!thanks for the reply.well I haven’t submit the application yet I’m in the payment section can i submit the application and upload the paperwork after and after submitting my app doe’s it reach the home office straight way?
I have a biometric permanent residence card and i applied for 5 years residence card back in 2011 do i have to mention it in the application form cause there’s a section asking if I have made any previous immigration application inside or outside the uk thanks
Hi Nick, thank you for this! This was extremely helpful! I am applying as an EU citizen with a settled status and the section “EEA National” isn’t part of the application form. Do you know whether the form has been updated recently?
Hi sir I already submitted my birtish naturalization form after download my form I see that's not showing my ful name my name is gurudeep Singh on form that showing Mr Singh only I already book fingerprints please tell me what I do now
Hi, thanks for this helpful video, I have a question, I don't have passport from my country, only I have travel document from home office in the UK, however, when I put the information about that it showed me that evidence that I need to upload is travel document from my country which is confusing. Is there any advice?
Thank you for the video. I find it strange that after paying nearly £1700, we also need to pay nearly £200 to book an appointment with UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services to then go ahed to SELF-upload the documents required..
I lived in england for 13 years, i went back to Portugal, where i come from, and i was there for 7 years. My question is, would i be able to get british citizenship?
Hi nick..thanks for the informative video..help a lot.been watching videos on how to become a British citizen... just a question about married to a British citizen? so my wife Naturalized British citizen ( shes a Filipino) is included as a British citizen? if yes.. I can apply my British citizenship when I get my ILR? thanks and thank you for your reply.. God bless
Hi, first of all, congratulations for the detailed video, it's very informative. May i kindly ask , when are you going to upload the second video regarding the documents required to be uploaded? Thank you in advance.
Hi there, thanks for providing feedback on the video. We're doing our best to get the accompanying video out by the end of May 2022. Sorry for the delay!
very helpfull video. What will happen if you travel after submiting the application, will that count into your absences? If not when is the best time to travel before your biometric appointment or after.
Hello Nike, i think i made a mistake with the previous application (Have you made any previous UK applications in the UK or abroad ) and i click NO, and now i have made my payment and i cant edit to say YES CAUSE i made application for 5 years and application for permanent residence which i already got, so what can i do cause i cant change it anymore.
Hi James, I can’t provide advice on specific applications here, but a way of correcting minors errors in an online form is to provide a covering letter with your supporting documents where this is explained. Again, I can’t comment on your particular application, but this is one possible approach
Hello, thank you so much for the detailed information you provided about the application. I found it immensely helpful! Are you still of the idea of uploading other videos? If so, I was just wondering when we could expect them? All the best
Hio Nick I have had a chat with you and found your advice most helpful. Have uploaded my AN application and off to do biometrics next week. After 42 years in UK with ILR, it wasn't easy to find all the required docs; I'll let you know the outcome. ps if someone is reading this and wondering should I go ahead & ask Nick? the answer is yes. His response time is quick and our online chat informative. Cheers Ph
Hello, I want to make the application for my children, I have to fill it in as if they were filling in the application themselves ??that is, where it asks for a name, should I put theirs ??
Good evening Nick I,am going to apply for naturalisation but I haven't done any works for the last 6 years. Do I have to do a covering letter or not and also is it a negative impact on my application. Sincerely yours
Hi Abdelhakim, I can’t provide specific info about your case I’m afraid. I’m hoping to do another video about covering letters when I get a spare day, but difficult to find time at the moment
Good evening, Nick. Quick question about the referees: if, in my case, the 2nd referee is my landlord, which is a retired lady (she's living with me at the same address), would any of these aspects affect in any way the application process? Would this person be alright to be mentioned as a referee or should I start looking for somebody else?
Hi Emmanuel-Andrei. I’m afraid I can’t give specific advice on the suitability of individuals as referees here. I have written a detailed post on the subject which I can be of some assistance: www.edgewaterlegal.com/insight/referees-in-british-citizenship-applications-why-who-what-where-when-and-how
Good presentation. I would like to know if PCN forms part of the lists of penalties to be disclosed and should you tick “ a penalty for driving offence for example disqualification for speeding or no motor insurance”? Section when issued with PCN or not. On the whole, should you disclose a PCN or charge certificate issued to you? Will there be repercussions if you fail to disclose PCN issued to you by a local council? Thanks
Hi Kwaku, I’m afraid I can’t give case-specific advice on here. The policy guidance on the good character requirement is here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/good-character-nationality-policy-guidance
Hi Nick, I intend to apply soon for the naturalization , so the 5 years of my qualifying period would look as follows, 4 years on emplyment and 1 year without a work so i am wondering how to cover this gap of 1 year in terms of evidences of residency? would 1 goverment letter that was sent to my address in the gap year with my name on it suffice to cover that year ? how many evidences are needed to cover that year ? Thanks

Great video! I wish I did watch this before submitting my application! I just applied for the citizenship and accidentally I answered No for this question: Have you made any previous uk immigration applications in uk or abroad? i should have selected yes, as I have Settled status. How to resolve this matter please? Many thanks
Hi there, apologies for the delay. This is a good question and I don't have an answer for you. When I make citizenship applications for clients it is always via the online process, so not sure why the paper form has a different declaration process
Thanks a lot! This videos helped me review my application and I learned a lot from it. Could please make a video for refugees who want to become citizen?

Hi Nick ,my wife is already got her British citizenship. I am applying for mine now .How do I know if applying for 3 years or 5 years record in uk.or it's a matter of what evidence I send immigration?
Hi there, sorry if we weren’t able to return your call. Completing a contact form is the best way of getting hold of us: www.edgewaterlegal.com. Please note that we aren’t able to provide advice on individual cases outside of a formal consultation details of which are here: www.edgewaterlegal.com/services/one-off-consultation/. Best, Nick
Hello, thank you for this video. Instead of letters from employer, could I use the income tax statements for the last 5 years and the EU settlement letter? Or, could i use the letter from the current employer( 2 years ) and the EU settlement letter which i got in November 2022 ?
Hello. Me and my referees, we have a Middle name. Where do we have to written on? To fill in the Previous jobs don't give me the page. It takes me to the next step. Thank you
Hi Nick, thanks for such through video guide. I have SS and it is linked to BRC, But my BRC has been expired in Jan 2022. Should I still use the same card for my application or do I need to get a new BRC card before I apply for citizenship? I am not sure if I was supposed to have a new BRC. Its BRC (Biometric residence Card) and not BRP. Thanks.
It is possible to obtain dual citizenship? I am a US citizen and married to a UK citizen but still want to live in the US as that is where my husband and I choose to live for now.

Hello, can my second referee be a director of a limited company if its not their primary occupation. In other words the person I want my second referee to be is soemone who is a Lab Scientist but also has a cleaning company and is registered as a director. My issue is it asks for profession and I am not sure what I should put there "Director" or "Lab Scientist"
Hi Nick this information is very helpful and boosted my confident to proceed with my application process. I have a couple of queries, how can I contact you? Thanks
Edgewater, Hi, quick one! please I would to be clear with a few things please see below 1.- How can I get the right enter to the UK? ( I know the month and year ). 2.- About the 5 last years trips I found a few of them but cannot find more so Is there any way to get a trips history? 3.- I have this scenario: I will be travelling in 2 weeks and one more time in February ( Holidays ) my question is I send off the application next week for example so Will I not be able to travel? I mean if that it will affect the application once I sent off. Thanks in advance
Hi, I submitted my application, uploaded my documents and showed up for the biometric appointment, al goo so far. However, I did all that without having done the life in the uk or the English test, which I booked and will do next Friday. somewhere during my long initial application i was led to believe i could upload/prove i passed the life in the uk and english test as soon as i had them, but I'm unsure I'll be able to tell or give them my certificates once i passed. did i screw everything up? or I can just tell them in a few weeks that i now have my certificates? how do i inform them? I fear i may need to withdraw and start again......i hope not
Great instructions easy to follow. Just one thing, at what point do i include the cover letter after paying or booking. I’ve just completed my application payed but didn’t book, and I can’t see the cover letter because I need to include something.

I have applied since October last year and until know nothing happens .Iwas wondering if Do you have any information about response delays or something that you might know ?some advice? Best and thanks
Hi, thanks for all this useful information. Could you just explain that in document section if someone does not have passport as proof of 5year residency and is not EEA and worked for 2-3 years, but not for complete 5 year. How do you manage this situation. Many thanks
Hi sir just I want to ask you about some questions is missing. I’m not sure which year application is from. The question is coming flowing Life in the Uk test which is English Language. I’m not sure about if I’m doing right application. Thank you
Hi Nick does small court claims decision affects to get a british citizenship? I didn't pay a ticket for NHS hospital car park an hospital they send my case to small court claims anyway I got clear criminal record
Hi Nick ,Just a quick questions received my ILR in sept 2022 and my plan was to apply for passport in september this years ,I have got all the requirements like life in uk test and english test ,Unfortunately in august my mother was seriously ill so i had to rush back to home country and i stayed with her to look after her and retuned back after staying there for 4 months ,i would like to know if i can apply for the citizenship now and give them the evidence of why i went and stayed there or i have to wait for another year to apply for the citizenship?
Hello Sir, I want to ask a question. I submitted the citizenship application for my mum and she has booked her brp appointment. Now I’m quite stressed because I think I might have made a slight mistake on the application. When it asks for “When did you first arrive in the UK?” Is this the very first time you came (for example to visit friends/relatives) or the very first time you came to remain? I hope this isn’t something that will highly affect my application.
Hi, Which date did you put in your application? Your first ever visit in the UK, or the date when you came here (again) to remain? I'm in the same situation and I'm not sure which one I should put, perhaps the one when I came here to stay?
Hello if you can answer me that will be Great. My question is that I am struggling to remember my previous visa application and extensions that I submitted in the UK will this be a problem if I don’t give exact dates ?
