I've been working on a one coin routine that I got from one of your videos. Titled: Practicing with drills and creating a one coin routine. I added it to my show that I do once a week in the cellar theater at the Magic Castle. Not a paid gig. It's where magicians practice with a live audience. I'm grateful for all I've learned from you. I would have never put this routine together as quickly, even though I have Bobo's modern coin magic, you've taught me how to string together several techniques to bring it full circle from beginning to end. I'm getting good responses from the lay audience as well as a few of the magician members who happen to catch my performance. Thank you Rick.

A good tip I got from Chris Kenner that I have never seen anyone else talk about. Don't waggle or stick out your thumb when placing a coin into classic palm. Instead press the tips of your thumb and index finger together as you palm. Its a small thing but will take practice as it feels odd. But now that you know about the thumb flying out when palming you'll see everyone doing it and its cringy.
@RickHolcombe
@RickHolcombe Месяц назад
Thanks, Chad. I think that idea originated with David Roth. I also apply the idea of "the bigger motion covering the smaller motion" to hide the thumb.

Here's a few of related coin vanished I perform... 1) While wearing a long sleeve shirt: The coin begins, visible, on the fingers of the right hand. The left hand pulls up the right sleeve. The coin appears to be transferred to the left hand but kept in finger palm. The right hand reaches under the left hand and deposits the coin into the left sleeve as it's being pulled up, mirroring the first sleeve. I often do one more apparent transfer of the coin before revealing it has completely vanished-with your sleeves rolled up! 2) While wearing a shirt with a breast pocket: The coin is held at the tips of the fingers of the right hand. The coin appears to be placed into the palm-down left hand. However, by action of the right thumb, it is swiveled around the left thumb onto the back of the left hand, just above the wrist. (This next part is a bit knacky.) With a quick jerk of the left arm the coin is secretly launched into the breast pocket. This is done under the guise of blowing on the closed left fist. Gone! 3) While wearing short sleeves: After secretly moistening the inner right forearm, the coin is displayed in the palm of the right hand. After one or two light tosses, on the final toss, the hand is moved imperceptibly forward a slight distance as the fingers snap closed, allowing the coin to land on the forearm. The arm slightly raised at the elbow, again under the guise of blowing on the closed fist. The fingers are opened, revealing the now empty palm, the coin safely hidden on the arm. The coin can be retrieved on the off-beat by swinging the arm down briskly with the fingers cupped. I generally then move the coin to classic palm as I relax my hands.

Hi Rick , well as a somewhat "not to dilligent" student, I have different books on coin magic & most of the "necessary" card books. I watched 1 of your coin videos & subscribed immediately. Why ? Well you are pretty obviously a "coin man" . I say this because I have got many years watched some of the best magicians in the world. Through out this time & from educating myself of card technique & a bit of coin slieghts, I found your talent & skills to be very smooth & natural. This caught my eye immediately. I wonder if I could ask two questions of you ........ 1) is it mostly "dollars" sized coins you use ? 2) Do you have any books or course on coin work ? Thanks again you've given me a little spark again. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍👍😉😁😁✨
@RickHolcombe
@RickHolcombe Месяц назад
Thank you so much! 1. I use half dollars for most things. It is just a more versatile sized coin. I use dollar coins on video when I am explaining/demonstrating just so it is as clear as possible on video. But, I do use dollar coins for certain routines in particular, like a 1 coin routine and a 3 Fly type of routine. 2. I have tutorials that I've made myself at rickholcombemagic.com I have thought about putting a course together, just need to get organized.

I've gotta be honest with you, Rick, when I first found your channel, I didn't think I would subscribe...but let me explain, please. It's more than obvious from any one of your videos taken at random that you're really talented, and that you definitely have a ton of knowledge on the subjects of coin magic and general sleight of hand. Anyone can see that. The reason I didn't think I would subscribe is that you're so kind and so nice that I assumed, wrongfully so and without good reason, that it had to be phony. I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but someone as kind and as friendly as you are that actually wants to help people, and is 100% genuine, is actually a pretty rare kind of person. But... I've obviously had my eyes opened, and of course I see now that you genuinely are, in addition to being ridiculously talented, just a _really_ decent guy who is generous enough to share his extensive knowledge and his valuable time with us for free, and I appreciate that a great deal. I'm sorry that I ever doubted you, but I'm a loyal subscriber now, and I'm glad that I am. Keep up the amazing work, your content is incredible - and I don't just mean here, I also love your website. For anyone wanting to learn and become good at coin magic, Rick Holcombe is the only name they really need to know. And, of course, if I happen to run into any of them, I'll gladly tell them that - they'll thank me for it eventually! Let me thank you one more time, and I'm sorry again for being skeptical; I drastically misjudged you, sir.
@RickHolcombe
@RickHolcombe Месяц назад
Wow! I'm completely flattered by all that. It means a lot to hear that my videos are helping people. Since I first started posting videos on RU-vid, I never wanted to put on some overly energetic, fake personality. I just wanted to provide straightforward, quality instruction and discussions. So, it's great to hear when that is resonating. Thank you for your message.
@SevenTheJester
@SevenTheJester Месяц назад
@@RickHolcombe Not at all, really. You're doing a fantastic job, and it costs me absolutely nothing to tell you that. If the ten or so minutes I spent typing that is all it costs me for the amount of teaching available here, I'm coming out way ahead on that deal. Between this channel and your website you've basically provided a masterclass on coin magic for free, and I've learned a ton from you. I recently started a very small channel to do a 365 challenge (started on Jan 1, so I'm 101 days in) to try to raise money for charity, but I wasn't a magician before I started. Basically everything I've learned about coins (I tend to focus more on cards) has come from you. I've gotten some routines or handlings from others, but as far as actual sleights and theory, that's all from you, Hugard and Bobo. ...and please feel free to delete or not post this comment if it seems like I'm trying to promote myself or my channel, that wasn't my intention at all. Thanks again for what you do, and for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate the personal touch. Cheers. 👋
