DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol):
DHCP is a network protocol used to automatically assign IP addresses and other network configuration parameters to devices on a network. It eliminates the need for manual IP address configuration, making network administration more efficient. DHCP operates based on a client-server model, where a DHCP server centrally manages and distributes IP addresses dynamically to devices requesting network access.
Scope:
In DHCP, a scope refers to a range of IP addresses that a DHCP server can assign to devices on a particular subnet. It defines the pool of available IP addresses that can be leased to DHCP clients. Scopes can also include additional configuration options such as subnet mask, default gateway, DNS server addresses, and lease duration.
IP Reservation Configuration :
IP reservation is a feature in DHCP that allows you to assign a specific IP address to a device based on its MAC address. This ensures that a particular device always receives the same IP address whenever it connects to the network.
Identify the MAC address of the device (such as a smart TV, streaming device, or computer) used to access RU-vid.
Access the DHCP server's management interface.
Locate the section for IP reservation or static IP assignment.
Add a new reservation entry, specifying the MAC address of the device and the desired IP address to assign to it.
