✅ Important: If you cannot find the domain option in settings, you will need to enable the option inside your Google Workspace admin. See our video description for more details.
Hello. I followed the instructions for the link in your description and was able to connect my custom domain to the Google site, but anytime I don't start the web address with a "www" it goes to a 404 page. Is there a way to have the domain work without the www? Thank you!
Omg thank goodness for people like you posting videos like this. I NEVER would've figured this out! I look forward to trying it out today...thank you thank you thank you
my domain doesn't work unless www is typed at the beginning. I sthere a way to avoid this? I cannot do a redirect either and I'm using hostinger. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Great video! I've just gone through the process, BUT my DNS would only accept the Google CNAME Target when I took the full stop off the end of it. It worked! Thank you!
Thank you for this updated nice tutorial, I wanted to connect my website for quite some time and freelancers charge what might be expensive, I can but a couple of pro domains and get hosting instead. Great tutorial, easy to understand.
Have learnt a lot by watching your channel.Very impressed 👍 I'm now trying to populate one sheet with the names collected from another. Possible or not ? Looking forward to your answer.
Hello, you responded to someone below who is not seeing the "Custom Domains" under Settings by telling them that they "have to be admin and allow the app inside your admin account." I'm having this same issue but I don't understand what you're telling him so that I can fix my issue too. Can you please explain further? Maybe a step-by-step on how to check or do those things? Thank you.
I appreciate your Video Stewart. I've watched a number of these tutorials but no one seems to explain how to replace a www file that is not allowed to be deleted on Godaddy. It doesn't even give me the option to delete or edit it. As i try to add the new www DNS it says: "Record name www conflicts with another record". But when i scroll down to delete the other www record it says: "You can't modify records that have been applied by a product or service connected to your domain." Any ideas on what I can do here?
Hi Stewart, thank you for your great explanation. However, in my settings menu I don't have the "custom domains" option?? Do you know why that would be the case? Thanks in advance
What do yo0 do if when you click settings, there is not a custom domain option? Only Navigation, Brand Images, Viewer Tools, Analytics, and Announcement Banner.
Would be useful to inform what you need to get started. I pay a monthly fee for Google One for extra storage but I do not believe that means I have google workspace. Therefore your observations are only applicable to those with google workspace?
if I do just my site name and site extension, it says dns can't be found, but if I do www before it, it says the site unexpectedly closed the connection, did i do anything wrong?
Hi, this is fantastic information mate you are helping a lot of people with your clear info but would you have to have your site published first then change the domain name or once you have built your google site connect your domain name to it then publish it or does it not matter wich way round one does it? and would you have to have your "affiliate links" on your google site first before publishing it or put them in laiter or does that not matter when you put them in eather? thanks for all your help! take care mate and have a great day!
Hi, thank you for that it was a great help! yes i think ill do that, ive just got to let it run for a bit on google while i get all the affiliate links sorted! nice one! PS, when one connects there own domain name to a google site and you are sorting out the "CNAME" stuff how many WWW's should there be in the cname records list? is there only one after you have already “verified” it first? Take care and have as great day!@@StewartGauld
Thanks for the video, but at 1:17 I don't have this "custom domain" button. I created the google sites site, I see you've replied to others saying to "Enable this at the admin level." But how? Response is really appreciated :)
On square space in order for me to type in the new cname I had to clear default dns settings because it wouldn’t let me delete the existing one itself. Should I rewrite the dns settings it had besides the new cname?
hi thanks a lot for your tutorial. Just one question: I did it yesterday and, today I found this error in red: not valid DNS (under the domain on google sites). Have I done something wrong or do I only have to wait 24/48 h? I bought the domain on Aruba
Hi! ThankU for this tutorial, I made all steps, but after few times it gets "The DNS system is invalid." report at the google site setting for custom domain and it doesnť work :(
@@StewartGauld Hi, same problem for me, did everything according the video - web works with www. (when typing in the url), without www it redirects me on hostinger page with „Happy to see your domain with Hostinger! Your domain is active and is using Hostinger nameservers. Take the recommended steps below to continue your journey with Hostinger." I am totaly noob in this, but it seems like has something to do with Manage DNS records - add some redirecting for non www command?
@@lukasfic9834 If this Google Site is going to be the primary website for your domain, you'll need to set up URL forwarding so that people who don't type the "www" can still get to your site.
@@StewartGauld Three days later I still get the message "Allow up to 48 hours for this site to also be viewable at..." Is it normal to take this long? If not, what do I do?
I have a paid workspace...I'm not sure what "Types" there are to choose from... I also found the domain settings in the admin part and I have verified the web address I want it to go to...but it's only been 2 days? Maybe it will take longer? @@StewartGauld
On squarespace it didn't let me delete just one record it made me delete them all, is that an issue? the custom domain is live but when I try to index the website it says DNS error host unknown
@@StewartGauld No. We are leaving to another supplier with live phone support. Squarespace admits there are problems and don't have a timeline for a fix and no notices when they do fix issues. Nix that.
The used to have Google Domains however, this was recently acquired by Square. So, you have to by a third party domain like I share in this video and connect it to your website.
@@StewartGauld I had been trying but the closest thing I see is "custom url" on the sites menu. That doesn't seem to do anything to allow a custom url at the site builder.
Custom record not saved We were unable to save this record due to conflicting CNAME records. *so how do i delete the CNAME? Where do i find the “wrong” one to delete. I have square space for my google site Thanks
Very helpful tutorials, thank you so much! At 5:55, Connect 3rd party registrar screen doesn't appear for me. After domain is verified, and custom record is added to domain provider, I've had to restart set up custom domain from google site, repeat verification step, and screen stops at auto-verified. There's not been a screen to continue adding custom domain after domain is verified. Perplexed. Do you need to temporarily unpublish your free google site url to be able to add the custom domain? I have a google domain that Squarespace now owns and an old CNAME record is on the DNS showing that. Would old CNAME need to be deleted? Thanks for any help.
Thanks a lot Steward. With the help of this video I could do it easily. As a next step I would like to link the multilingual google sites to the same domain with different sub directories. (Like …/fr or …/de) I searched but I couldn‘t find any material explaining this. Is there a video or sth that you could recommend?
