I liked that the video was long. A lot of techies talk so fast and use words that you just can't keep up with. This video was perfect for exactly what I was needing to learn. Thank you soooo much! Excellent.

Many thanks Timmy - that is the clearest explanation I have found on using external monitor(s) for a range of Chromebook connectivity options...👍 Do you know if there is any diagnostic function I can use to check if a Chromebook USB-C port supports DisplayPort v1.2 (4K30) or v1.4 (4K60) ? eg. I have an Acer Spin 513 (513-2H), but have been unable to find ANYWHERE (including Acer online documentation) what version of DP it's USB-C ports supports - so I am not sure what is the most appropriate monitor to buy for it.
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy 11 месяцев назад
Sorry, I don't know of any way to tell that, it seems to be very difficult to find out information about DisplayPort versions, it's never documented clearly and by the time you type all the specific parameters into Google, nothing helpful comes up. But from my experience, you can get 4K60 from DisplayPort v1.2 if you use a single USC-C to HDMI adapter, it's only if you're using a USB-C hub that you would be limited to 4K30 with DisplayPort v1.2.

Hello! Thanks for sharing these instructions, they seem pretty simple. I do have a question about adding two monitors. I have an Acer Chromebook Spin 513, so far it has been great. I am in the process of adding an office space to one of my spare bedrooms and was wanting to add dual monitors to my Chromebook display for extra productivity. My Chromebook has two USB-C ports. Here is where I am stumped... I have purchased two Samsung 27" curved monitors that I was planning on using. I am able to get one monitor to display as an extension from the Chromebook. I have connected both monitors to both USB-C ports and only one will display/be recognized by my Chromebook. I have two HDMI to USB-C adapters that I have tried, one in each port on my Chromebook and only one display will be recognized. I tried flipping both the adapters to the opposite port and switching the monitors HDMI cables; and still am only getting one monitor to be recognized through one or the other port. I have also purchased a 5 port USB-C Hub that has one HDMI port on it, and still nothing. Any suggestions???
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy 7 месяцев назад
Sorry, I'm not sure why that would be, it should all work together like that. I did a post on Reddit where someone had that Chromebook and only one of the usb-c ports worked for display output. They said the specs stated that both ports support display output, so I'm guessing their Chromebook was just faulty, but perhaps yours has a similar issue. One other thought I had is perhaps the processor isn't capable or running two large monitors and the external display. You could try turning the brightness on the Chromebook all the way down so that it turns off, and then maybe the two external displays would work.

I'm experiencing the same issue. And this is why I've viewed this video. I've bought multiple usb-c>HDMI adapters & just installed a hub with 2 HDMI ports but nothing works. I even tried the tip of using both usb-c ports (1 for each HDMI). Even after switching the HDMI cables the Chromebook only recognizes 1 HDMI cable. 😢

Ty , I was wondering this 😊 do you know if I could do this wirelessly?
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy Год назад
You could use a wireless HDMI transmitter like this: amzn.to/3K69E0R I've never used one, so I'm not sure how well they work, but theoretically, you would just plug one into the monitor, and one into the Chromebook (with a USB-C to HDMI adapter or similar) and the two devices would transmit the signal wirelessly just like an HDMI cable. Alternatively, you could connect a Chromecast to your monitor and cast your Chromebook's screen for occasional mirroring, but the HDMI transmitters would work a lot better.

Hello ! Thank you for sharing this video . My question is I have a monitor with VGA cable and Chromebook with a cracked screen ( but still working ) . My Chromebook only has a USB C port for charging . I have connected an adapter VGA to USB C , but can’t charge when I use monitor . Any suggestions ? Thanks
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy 7 месяцев назад
That's difficult, unless your Chromebook has another USB - C port, you'll need to get a USB-C hub that supports power delivery and has a VGA port, or one with an HDMI port and an HDMI to VGA adapter. Unfortunately I don't think there is such a thing as a hub that you could plug your existing adapter into.

I would suggest you try some basic troubleshooting. Unplug everything and plug it all back in to make sure nothing was loose, restart the Chromebook, restart the TV, and try switching to a different HDMI port on the TV. It's even possible that the ports on the TV might be mislabeled, so HDMI 1 might actually be HDMI 2. So make sure you try changing the TV source to all the different HDMI ports, to check if it works on one of the others.

@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy 15 дней назад
Yes, you can certainly do that. Unfortunately, I don't have a video about it, but I do have a video about connecting an external mouse, and all the same information will pretty much apply to keyboards as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x0A7Y9bUkE4.html

How do you get the chromebook to use the monitors camera and audio
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy 3 месяца назад
To use the camera, you probably need to have a USB cable or something going from the monitor to the Chromebook. I'm not 100% sure, but I doubt the webcam signal would travel through the one HDMI cable along with the Chromebook display signal. Audio should work through the HDMI cable, assuming the monitor has speakers. If you click on the time in the bottom right hand corner, then click the arrow next to the volume slider, you'll want to make sure the output is set to the external monitor and not the Chromebook's internal speakers.

My chromebook was sending an image to a second monitor until the latest chromebook software update. Is Google aware of this issue?
@fatoniwahyuutama6591
@fatoniwahyuutama6591 8 месяцев назад
Oh, so is it really because an update? Same problem here; I can connect my Chromebook to a projector just fine, until 2 - 3 months, and then the update came, and boom, now I can't connect it to whatever external display I have -- using the same adapter, same settings and so on.
@fatoniwahyuutama6591
@fatoniwahyuutama6591 8 месяцев назад
Google Chromebook's help page told me some aspect concerning the cable / the adaptor; I quote here some of the related text: "our USB-C cable doesn't support this connection. Replace your cable with a USB-C cable with a performance rating of SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps or higher. Make sure it has one of these certified logos." But then again, I don't think it was because the cable nor the adapter, as it perform well before ChromeOS update.

Hi, i have a dell latitude chromebook with only 1 usb type c i currently use my hdmi port for my extended monitor, i'm looking to add another monitor, any suggestion or recommendation on how i can add another monitor using the usb c port?
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy Год назад
There are a lot of different Dell Latitude models so I'm not sure exactly which ports you have. But if your Chromebook has a dedicated charging port, you'll be fine with a basic USB-C to HDMI adapter: amzn.to/3Q1Bcbz Or, if you need to plug the charger into the USB-C port, you'll probably want a USB-C hub that supports power passthrough so that it can charge through the hub: amzn.to/3XWd7Vs Hope this helps.

How does one usb c port charge my chromebook and at the same time mirror to my tv without an hdmi port? I tried a hub with usb c and hdmi but how can it power the chromebook when there is no electricity charging it? I want to set up the chromebook to the tv and never touch it again. It needs to charge the chromebook and mirror to the tv via hdmi - with only one usb c port.
@techtimewithtimmy
@techtimewithtimmy 2 месяца назад
You would need a hub that supports power delivery. If you have a hub that supports power delivery, you plug the Chromebook's charger into the USB-C port on the hub, and plug the TV into the HDMI port on the hub. Then, the hub will take power from the Chromebook's charger, and pass it through to the Chromebook, while also running the monitor.

I think there are some touchscreen USB-C monitors that work with Chrome OS. But I don't think an overlay addon like this would work on a Chromebook as they probably all requite additional drivers that couldn't be installed on Chrome OS.
