How to connect consoles to matrix switchers - Cabling

Lol I remember getting my 12x8 sized Extron Switcher and thinking it was a beast, but THAT thing is massive!

I did something similar. I picked up some female SCART hoods and a bunch of male to male BNC connectors. I cut each BNC cable in half and wired each exposed end to the female SCART hood. I was able to build two adapters for each BNC cable that I picked up (fairly cheaply) from Monoprice. For the audio breakouts I just picked up standard red/white RCA audio cables and followed the same method. This way its more direct.

I use a diy scart switch with 10 inputs. It's suprisingly difficult to get good scart switches with full RGB, so my dad and I decided to build one our selves. My dad designed and built it. It's got 10 inputs and two distributed outputs and it's solid state and microcontroller controlled. I made video about it. I get that humming sound on some cables too. For sync, I stick with the scart standard sync on composite for compatibility reasons. The second output is used for connection with a dvd recorder.

i just finished setting up my extron crosspoint 16x8 got it for 70. building each cable wasnt much fun but its over now and looks much cooler than the gscartsw

Another excellent and informative video thanks Rob. RetroGamingCables in the UK make some great scart to bnc cables which helps no end over here. Your switcher makes my 12 to 8 look tiny though. All the best.

Any chance of a short video on how to modify the scart lead to incorporate the 5v cable to activate rgb pls? Ta.

Just found an Extron Crosspoint 8x4 matrix switcher and I'm eager to make use of it. One thing I don't understand after watching this video is why you'd wand different components of the same video signal to go into different inputs, as demonstrated when you explained why you'd want the separated ends to be somewhat long. What's the deal with that?

What are the 75 and 150 ohm mini sync switches for on the back please? How should they be set? Thanks.

I picked up a 12x8 and i'm finding the sync cable only works on the rgb i/o and not the H or V. i watched your video twice but i feel like i'm just not picking up what your putting down for this.. I am using a RGB modded n64, which it sounds like you mentions should already have sync strip. but the sync won't play nice over the H or V i/o. What do i need to make it work? Thanks!

Awesome video man. Question, I just grabbed a 8x4 switcher. I am noticing that most (but not all) have dip switches on the back for each (input or output?) regarding 75ohm. My switcher does in fact have them. But some that I want to buy, for example a 16x16 only has 8 total dip switches - you will see what I mean by looking here I've posted 2 pictures for example: imgur.com/a/hE4Ev Why do some models have none of those dips whatsoever, while the ones that do only have 8 in total? Got my extron sorted with vga, component, s video and composite no probs. RGB is not having it though. Using scart to bnc with built in sync strippers but no good. Driving me up the wall. Any tips pls? Ta.
