That's fantastic, man! And you can use a cable with some kind of connector, so the ESP8266 doesn't need to stay in the quad. You just plug when needed. :D

Lol, I have an awesome idea. Place like raspberry pi zero and place it into your moded eachine vr007. Flash Linux into it and install BF on it. Place some bluethooth/wifi module on it and add the switch to be able to select between receiver and RB pi zero. So you have BF INSIDE OF GOOGLES !!!! you can use that pi zero that has WiFi and Bluetooth already on board 😄

Interesting idea :) One problem with this is extra weight and space issues in low profile frames. In case of RacerStar F4S kind of FCs with USB socket at front better is to add an extender cable with heat tube cap :) which doesn't take space and weight virtually nothing. Did the same for camera OSD's too.

for the makers, it would probably make more sense to rather use something like nrf24l01... but it would be less user friendly for sure, some coding would be needed (on the other hand, that can be done once...)

can we set a switch to on off wifi module? my Mamba F722 APP FC have inbuilt wifi mode and it's getting to 70 celsius within 30 seconds after plugin battery 😐

Awesome. Would be awesome to take this to the next level and broadcast the usb connnection on the fc via wifi. I think a rasberry pi could do this but it would be over kill. I've seen lots of SoC with wifi that run linux that are quite cheap. I guess you need to find one of these that have a usb controller built in? Then you would have a device you can plug into any of your fc's without havi g to wire stuff onto it.

The video is informative for me. However, I use a different module which is black and smaller. In my case, the hardware connection is more complicated. GPIO 0 should be pulled to ground when programming and CH_PD should always be connected to 3.3v. When in normal operation other than programming, GPIO 0 should be pulled up to 3.3v. I tried to float these 2 pins at first and sometimes I got wifi sometimes not.

Great video. Quick question, how hard would it be to turn it into a dongle that plugs into the usb on the FC. That would make my life easier so I can use mobile config tools and remove any interference doubts . Is there a Wemos board you could stack to do the USB connection ? or wire something up. Is there a commercial product.out there now ?

Great idea ! ,can you still just connect your FC via its usb to your computer ? (with out the battery connected) I can see this as being handy to configure in the field ,live ,ie land your quad a few feet away ,make some changes and then take off.Its like ,I can now configure my vtx via my TX and fpv goggles ,also my Runcam the same way and I would not be able to go back as its so much easier. With all the rapid changes with BF and esc protocols ,this will make it just that little bit easier to do! Do you know what the weight of the module is?

I purchased 2 of these from Amazon and neither worked. I followed your video exactly, twice. Although the blue led flashed during flashing it did not light up when connected to a 5volt supply. Was not reckognised by iPad, iPhone, Laptop, Desktop. Could not connect to iNav or Betaflight. I suggest you do a follow up video on how to trouble shoot and correct baud rate on configurator etc. Lucky for me Amazon Prime have done 100% refund.

Please be VERY carefully. The ESP8266 can easy crash and could simply took you not of the air. I build much with the ESP and thus I know what I am talking about. on a copter you nearly always have noise, even if it is only magnetic. If the CPU in this crashes it is very likely that you crash or even misconfigure the FC and you quad can in worst case be uncontrolled. The less problematic parts the better, believe me, you won't have a quad flying full speed in your face. take the time and use a USB cable. Betaflight can be configured this way but there is a good reason why no popular flightcontroller has bluetooth or wifi! If a copter goes full speed on you it can easily kill you. This racingcopters are NO toys!

The Problem is that the ESP8266 is very unclear documented so there can be some bug and configure your controller wrong. if you already use a laptop for wifi, why you cant plug in usb or in case the port is hidden: FTDI adapter and 3 pin header. lot more easy and secure...

Hello, you can still use the uart with a FTDI adapter... connect 4-5 wires and ready to go, technically thats what F1 boards do, because they dont have USB VCP.

SIGORIS If sbus works in it then it's inverted. if ibus works then it's not inverted

Not true. I have sbus and ibus working of the same uart port. I just have to switch from one to another in cleanflight and on transmitter.

It should work. Install 'socat'. It's a tool for connecting any two streams. Something like this should do the work: socat pty,raw,link=/dev/ttyS99,waitslave tcp:192.168.4.1:23 This would create a pseudo serial port /dev/ttyS99 (you can choose any name you want) and connect it with the esp.
