Control Cowlicks + Change Your Part
⚠️ Before anything else ⚠️ Wet the hair down COMPLETELY. You cannot control hair that has already dried in a different position.
My cowlicks are all around my forehead so I section out the front (2” around the face from ear to ear) and clip the rest of the hair out of my way.
TOOLS:
⁃ Hard rubber comb: Y.S. Park amzn.to/3Kv5CxM
⁃ Hair Dryer with Concentrator: Parlux amzn.to/3KyJN08
- Mason Pearson Popular Brush: amzn.to/33JigZg
Begin wrap drying in the opposite direction of the way you normally part it and wear it. (if you wear it in the middle start by blowing opposite the way the hair wants to go).
Wrap back and forth until the roots are dry.
Switch to a brush. (I’m using a mason Pearson but you can use a round brush if you want more bend on the ends)
Pull down on the hair and point the hair dryer down at the roots from up high. You never want to lift a cowlick up at the roots because that will encourage it to pop up and split. Pass the brush all the way down smoothing out the ends.
Make sure there is no moisture left in the hair. Now you can part it wherever you want.
Remember: there is no such thing as “training” your hair to stay a certain way. You can only control it from when it’s wet and dry it in the direction you want.
Hope these tips help you control your cowlicks and change your part!
If you’re still having trouble styling and parting how you want, leave me a comment and tell me what’s going on. I’d love to help you achieve the look you’re going for! Tell me how I can help you more 💕

Good time to try a bang / fringe or shorter angle to switch it up and make the growout fun 🤩 Keep me posted on your results! The key things to remember are: ▪️Low air flow/ high heat ▪️Low + slow from wet 👉💯Dry ▪️Opposite the way the cowlick wants to go first ▪️Wrap dry back and forth until roots are dry (as many times as you need to until dry/ no lifting) ▪️Then pick up the section finish the ends with a brush + part it wherever you want 🤗 You can Screen shot and save👆makes a good cheat sheet😆 Good luck 🫶💪 You can do it! 💕

Have you tried parting it right when you get out of the shower and start drying while pushing the left side straight down and away from your face with a comb … I wouldn’t stop until the roots are 💯 dry ( it might take a few mins since your hair is so thick) and then go to the side that’s not so bad .. @ashleyhopehairplay Год назад
Ugh.. 😖 Unfortunately no amount of “training” will ever permanently change the growth pattern of your cowlicks (and there is no real FIX) but they should stay controlled and in the position you want until you wet the hair again. That’s the best we can do unless we transplant the hair to grow out of our heads at a different angle 🤣

Can’t wait to try this procedure! However, my cowlick on the very top of my head my hair wants to go forward instead of sideways for the past three or four years should I use the same procedure from this video?
@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay Год назад
Great question!!!! So ideally whichever direction the cowlick wants to go, you want your first pass to cancel it so it should be completely the opposite of what it wants to do. So if its growing forward, i would start by brush it back to make it go as far opposite the way it wants to go as possible. Then side to side. Then finish going back again. * this is kind of a specific situation bc if its growing forward already, and your head naturally rounds down at the forehead like everyones does then gravity is going to pull it more forward making your cowlick that much more difficult to counteract. So in your case i would recommend NEVER blowing it forward bc it doesnt need any more encouragement to go that direction. So back, then side to side until its dry, and one final pass back again and let it come off the brush. Keep me posted if u want a video specifically doing just that. Good luck my friend!! You got this! 🫶🏽🤗💓

I have really fine hair. I’m going to try this!!! But I do like a bit of volume in my hair… wouldn’t this make my hair really flat?
@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay 4 месяца назад
So in short yes… but then you can add volume later once the cowlick is gone. If you give volume first, chances are you are encouraging the cowlick to pop up . So I like to knock the cowlick out first then add volume with a roller or a little tease after.. a bit of teasing could actually help you lock the cowlick in the direction you want and prevent it from splitting and popping up later. Or without rollers or teasing, you can pick up the sections you want to add volume to with a round brush but be careful to keep in going in the new direction you want. Let me know if you try- I hope it’s helpful! 🫶🏽💕

How long does this stay?? Mine make me have a side part and i hate it sm:( i used to have middle part but now i have a cowlick in the middle front
@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay 3 месяца назад
It will stay until it gets wet again (rain, sweat, shower) … also when you’re showering under the shower cap, while applying make-up and sleeping it’s best to keep the hair clipped or under a headband keeping it flat in the direction you first blow dried it so as not to encourage the cowlick to come back in humid situations if u can help it and as long as you have a water bottle you can always use the technique to re-blow dry if it comes back before you’re ready to shampoo again 🎀🫶🏽

Dose it still work without the concentrator? Or is it needed, because i dont have one 😶
@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay 2 года назад
Great question! Honestly I think the concentrator is more important than the actual dryer. A smaller concentrator allows you to focus on just the section of hair you have on the brush instead of drying the surrounding hairs that you aren’t controlling at the moment. It really allows you to control the direction of the air flow so you can make sure you’re blowing from roots to ends and sealing the cuticle down which gives you that shiny, polished finish a salon quality blowout has. Sometimes u can order a universal concentrator that is adaptable to fit different dryers or sometimes you can even re-order just the concentrator. Lmk if I can help u with anything else 💕

It will stay that way as long as it’s dry… until you wash it again, or until it gets wet again (rain or a lot of sweating can make it revert back to its natural state)

Great video ! I have 2 questions: do you recommend any product for the bang area? Someone told me to use KMR Therma Shape Hot Flex Spray. Also, HOW do you get your hair so shiny and silky ? It's gorgeous !
@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay Год назад
💕 Omg yay I’m so glad you found this helpful! 🫶🏽. I typically just use the formula 18 leave in conditioner (4-5 sprays in the palm of my hands, rub together, and distribute evenly into damp hair starting at the ends and working my way toward the roots) as my prep for blow drying when I want shiny, silky, healthy hair that’s soft and easy to comb through but not necessarily hold. It contains bond builder and helps to protect and nourish the hair. The KMS thermashape hot flex is a great product for when you CURL your hair. It’s something you spray on 100% DRY hair and then either flat iron, or curling iron (some sort of HOT iron) but this isn’t the best product for use on wet hair when blow drying bc it can get sticky. *Save this one for after your hair is all blow dried. You can find Formula 18 leave in conditioner at this link - F 18 Leave-in conditioner 👇🏽 🛍 usphair.com/shop/formula-18/leave-in-conditioner/

@ashleyhopehairplay

If I was going to give the “headband“ more volume I would add volume powder and tease before I smooth it and secure it with the elastic or I would sneak a little section of microkrimping underneath the smooth layer on top. The cowlick comes back when I sweat 😭what do I do
@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay 3 месяца назад
Yes that’s 💯natural. The hydrogen bonds in the hair hold it in its shape. Water breaks those bonds and they re-form again when dry. What can help , if you don’t want to re-blowdry is either putting your pony in on the side and re-directing that hair or maybe clipping it opposite the way the cowlick splits goes (not in the direction your wear it) while you’re sweating and keep the clip in until you’re no longer sweaty. When you take your hair down and brush it should be better 🫶🏽

Don’t give up! We can trouble shoot this… you will get it!! 🫶🏽 hmmm .. it sounds like it has probably already started air drying in the direction the cowlick wants to go in too much before you started with your dryer. What if it was more wet?… like almost dripping when you start? Have you tried it from that wet? In my experience the cowlick needs to be soaked in order to control it if it’s a really strong one 💪🏽 .. also if you can comb it and part it the way you want it to lay -as SOON as you get out of the shower - that also helps because it never starts forming in the wrong direction and so you have less of a cowlick to combat and work out. I’m sorry… they are so frustrating but I promise once you get you’ll be so relieved. I appreciate you letting me help you. You got this! Let’s keep at it! 💕🤗

@ashleyhopehairplay
@ashleyhopehairplay 6 месяцев назад
@@ashleypissed yes that sounds exactly like a strong cowlick on one side… when you wash next, try doing it with a comb, from very wet so there’s no lifting… the first pass with your dryer set it on high heat, but low air flow so you have time to control the cowlick and not blow it all over the place. START by forcing the difficult side flat and towards the center of your forehead, keep going over it until it stops fighting you… then do the same with the good side bring it toward the center, then combine them so you have the whole bang together and keep pushing it flat down towards your face. When you feel the roots are dry then go in with your round brush and blow it back ( to make the ends curl back) … then I would pin them to cool parted while I do my makeup or drink coffee or whatever.
