how to: convert a rear rack to a front rack

This is something I never even considered before. Now I'm going to have to see if an old rear rack can be repurposed. Cool! 😎

I just sawed the loop off an old Blackburn rear rack so that it made room for the front brake on a 1996 Saracen MTB. (I did a Canti to V-Brake conversion as well, because Cantis are bloody awful). It's much better to have the load transmitted vertically down, to steel bolts in a steel frame, than to a bent aluminium tube.

Got an old rear rack from a dusty bike. Was messing around with it and could not install it, due to a lack of instruments. Discovered a local “work station” initiative, where u can use all the tools and old parts for free. Long story short got myself an amazing rack, bunch of new friends and cool place to hang out! It looks really good. Just wondering if you put heavy items on the rack the fact that the attachment is bended it could be eventually a problem. Metal resists well to compression and traction which are the forces you have there when there is no bend.

The very gradual bending and multi point b ends to achieve a better angle was the best way to go about this. Not to mention bike packing usually entails light weight gear

Pretty Slick, I was fortunate to find an ancient Rollfast that had a front rack on it...had to drill a hole for the brake cable to go through. It's aluminum though; going to see about one of these instead. Thank You

I love it. But, what is the advantage to running a bodged front rack rather than a legit rear rack? Is this just an experiment for aesthetic fun or is there a handling advantage? Either way I’ll probably give this a go on my old stumpjumper!
