Today, I'm showing you how to create a pattern from your favorite bra! It doesn't matter what kind of bra you have because I'm showing how to turn even a seamless bra into a 2-piece bra cup. This is by far the easiest way I've found to knock off a bra. Let me know how it goes for you!

Hi ❤️❤️ I’m interested in creating and selling sewing patterns. I’ve only been successful in drafting patterns using Helen Joseph Armstrong’s technique, which I have been using since 2018. But I’m worried about running into legal problems if I use this technique. I’ve noticed almost all fashion designers on RU-vid use draping. Is that the ideal way to draft patterns if you plan on selling the patterns or making clothes for people❤️❤️ I’d also like to thank you for your videos teaching how to draft a front and back bodice block. I used those videos to teach myself how to draft using Armstrong’s book❤️❤️❤️❤️ your videos were a life saver❤️😘

Thats probably the best pattern book out there. I'm not sure where you're located but in the USA you would not get in trouble for using that book to draft anything, especially since you are coming up with your own measurements. Rarely have I heard of anyone getting sued even when they completely rip off a design (even using the same fabric) so long as it's not using logos/trademarks. Draping is fun and some designs can't be patterned flat so it's definitely a useful skill. Just beware of selling it using only the fit of the dressform. It's a great starting point but nothing replaces a good fit model!

Have you tried sewing a sports bra? I have 1 that is my favorite & unfortunately it’s no longer available for purchase. Without taking it apart, do you think it’s possible to recreate it? If so, any suggestions? Thank you!

You can definitely use this same process to copy a sports bra! After tracing, I would compare measurement between the paper pattern and original garment down to the millimeter. Be sure to get a fabric as close as possible to the original. You most likely will still have to make adjustments to get the perfect fit, but a fabric with similar stretch and thickness will get you much closer! I think the hardest part will be trying to stretch the elastic band enough to get an accurate pattern. I've definitely had to borrow other people's hands in the past lol
