What about a horse that shakes her head when backing? We've just recently started introducing lateral flexion in a Jr cow horse with copper roller stage B. She is very green as we had a riding accident Christmas day. She was left untouched for a few months. She wants to trot as soon as I click her forward. I have to work her in circles and fig. 8s to finally slow down as well.

I've got a 4yr old cow-bred filly that has a nice low headset when walking, but she was prematurely ran on barrels so when trotting and cantering she has her head high in the sky. I'm so worried about her riding in that hollowed out position because I know she's not gaining the propper muscle she needs in her hind end.

How would you get your horse to drop its head and keep it dropped while moving? I have been working with my 16 year old paint and he will drop his head (sorta) while walking but brings it up super high immediately when we go into a trot and i cant get him to bring it back down.

What about a horse that hangs it’s head too low and pulling rider forward? I’ve got a cob that pulls me down a lot always hanging head too low.

Teach your horse to "give" to your hands. Right now, you are simply "hanging" on his mouth.

Thanks Larry. How would you address the complete oposite problem? My horse drops his head way too low, almost a couple of inches from the ground most times he trots and is relaxed. Thanks!

Hi Ruben, Make the right thing easy for the horse and the wrong thing uncomfortable. When his head too low, bump the bit until he starts to raise it. Quit bumping the instant it's headed in the right direction. Then build on that over time.

Do you have any videos on the opposite issue? My head hangs his head too low all the time, causing tripping and gaining speed downhill.
@ltrocha

Simply do the reverse of what I demonstrate here. Bump until his head starts up and then slack.

If the horse has a hollow back and not useing his body properly, he'll be head high, unbalanced and unhappy. If they have engaged their back carrying their body well, it is easier to carry their head lower.

Why is this good to low their head i dont know and i want to know
@ltrocha
@ltrocha 2 года назад
Because it's way better than a horse with a high head carrage

@@ltrocha but why its safer?

@@papjonas3971 Hi, I’m not Larry and don’t train a lot, just a little. Maybe I could explain using my horse. In my horse training in having his head down keeps his head in the game of what I’m teaching him that day. My horse actually naturally carries his head higher then most stock horses when he’s in his stall or turned out but he’s on his own there. When he’s with me I need him to relax and listen and when his head is up I know he’s looking somewhere else and not on my brain time. ( or paying attention) It’s safer for me to keep giving my horse brain work then let him think on his own and getting scared of something ( spooking) When that happens his head goes up and he’s lunging sideways at a high rate of speed. ( Not safe for either of us) He’s older now and has quit most of it but starting their foundation right as Larry shows you is the beings of safety for you and-your 1000 friend that has the reflexes of a cat. Hope that helps. ❤️

I’m gathering that it’s good for horses that work with cattle. Many are bred to be this way, but it’s not a “normal” horse head carriage though. It’s to do a job and for shows.

Why do you tie your horses tails in knots?
@ltrocha
@ltrocha 3 года назад
Hi Lexah, I tie their tail up so they don't step on it when they stop hard or back up.

its ok the head dropping, but for dressage the head must stay in that position, with contact.
