Thank you so much for sharing your understanding of this plant. I first received my cutting in 1993 and needed help understanding what to expect from the plant. So I put it into a west-facing window, and it grew from a 12" cutting with one leaf to an 8' plant and gave me two flowers. The beautiful flowers filled the room with a wonderful aroma, lasting two days. After moving three times, the plant survived and I cut so many cuttings and gave them to my friends and family. Two years ago I asked my husband to cut it back, and he did, but the plant did not recover very well. But this year, it has put out new branches for the first time and looks like it will survive. You are the first person who understands this plant, so I will follow your advice and when it flowers again, I will send you pictures. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and your advice.

Thank you so much for sharing with us your wonderful planting experience. Actually, I am still learning how to grow and care for this gorgeous plant, but so far, we are very satisfied with our plant, and it gives us 60 to 90 blooms this year. We also propagated some new plants using cuttings this spring. So far, they are doing very well, and a lot of new shoots are coming out from the soil. Check out the epiphyllum playlist on my RU-vid channel for more videos. Thanks, and good luck.

Gorgeous flower! So special to see this unique flower! I’ve had one for several years and it’s bloomed 3 times. I ignored it in my basement (I had illness) for a year. Brought it up to patio. Several leaves have large amount of large brown growth on leaves but also is alive with green leaves. Should I cut those off? I will move it so gets less full sun. Love this plant!! Thank you for your video!! It is worth the wait.❤❤❤

@annknitnut Thanks, I am not sure whether the large brown growth you mentioned is fungus or not since it was kept in the basement for a while. If you found the brown growth stops spreading and dry out on all these infected leaf-like stems, you can still leave them alone. Otherwise, I would rather cut off these infected stems. Actually, the plant can grow really fast if everything is going OK. Keep the plant in a sunny spot for healthy growth and blooms. Thanks, hopefully helpful, any questions or concerns, comments here.

I have been growing these plants for a couple of years. Using miracle grow the plant produces blooms and grows like crazy. I have some plants outside in partial sun and some inside a screen enclosure. The plants outside get blistered but still bloom. The ones in my screen enclosure indirect light do much better and produce beautiful flowers. I have found some different colors which I’m in the process of getting them started. Beautiful flowers wonderful smell.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Just as you mentioned, this kind of plant is very easy to grow. Once it is established and mature, it grows fast and produces tons of flowers. My plant now is blooming and probably produces over 80 blooms at the same time, even though the flower buds are still small. I will make several videos and share the amazing flowers with you guys. BTW, the flowers are edible 😋. Thanks again.

Hi from Queensland Yang Family! Thankyou so much for your very informative video. My epi is about 4 foot high. Every morning I see many many flowers hanging from it but not open - now I know why - its a night plant! I will go outside with a torch tonight and see if I can find one of those gorgeous blooms open. Thankyou again!

Good video. Many years ago, a woman asked me to plant her Queen of the night Orchid she brought from France, outside. It was huge and produced plate sized flowers. I always wanted one, but I have never seen them sold in stores. Some guy forgot to water his for a long time. He then threw it into a dumpster. Most of the plant was dried out and brittle. I removed it and brought it home. It had 3 branches still alive. It is now several feet tall and several feet wide with many branches. I'm hoping it blooms this Spring. These are not rare plants. Yet rare to find in stores and nurseries.

Thanks for sharing your story. I totally agree with you. It's not rare but hard to find in the garden center or nursery. BTW, please do not throw away your flowers. Actually, they are edible. Good luck with your plant. Hopefully, you will see blooms soon.

@@LAyangfamily Edible? Great, wonder if I can stuff them like pumpkin flowers. Thanks!
@LAyangfamily
@LAyangfamily 6 месяцев назад
@seamus6994 I know pumpkin flowers are also edible. I usually take 1 or 2 epiphyllum oxypetalum flowers to a soup 🍲 , it is a little bit sticky but very healthy. This past summer, we got over 50 flowers, and we saved almost all the flowers to make a soup.

Thank you for the information about queen of the night. I have had my second plant for five years and it has not bloomed. According to your information I think it is not getting enough light. Also it is in a large pot. It has grown a long stem which is 10 feet tall. It sits by grow lights but I am thinking of putting it on the deck which gets southern light. I got my first plant which sat in a west window and got four blooms. It was so exciting.
@LAyangfamily
@LAyangfamily Год назад
Thanks, and I have several suggestions for you based on your first plant. You might think it over. Get plenty of sunlight, it is said that pot bound (small pot) can encourage blooming, if plant propagated from mature old leaves can bloom earlier, some fertilizers with high P and K can also boost blooms. Good luck. 👍

Thank you so much for the informative video of your gorgeous plant! I just chopped mine completely down to restart it. It is a houseplant at my home but I've put it outside in the summer months here. It was wild and HUGE! 😂 I have it outside in my covered porch. Hope it restarts and grows new roots.

Even though a lot of people treat this plant as a house plant, I always grow my plant outside. It does very well, absolutely a low maintenance plant. The first flower this year just opened. Based on my observations, kind of tons of more flowers are growing, even though some are still tiny, I will post new videos soon to share with you guys. Thanks again. 😊

Any well drained soil is ok. Normally you do not have to fertilizer it, but if you want more blooms, you might need to feed your plant, please check my video for fertilizers. Thanks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q4BVPrgZppY.html

@@LAyangfamily Mr. Yang I shouldn't be saying this but I think your apartment complex was better than the individual house you are currently living in. Location and neighborhood matters a lot Mr. Yang.

@@chandraprasad1244 LOL, our previous apartment complex is well maintained and beautiful for many different plant resources. Even though we moved out, but we still own that apartment which is close to our current house, so I can still go over there for the plants and videoes. Our current house has more space and yards for the plants, but currently we need time to plan and design the garden. Our current house neighborhood is pretty good, you can see in my Jacaranda video. Thanks for your interest and support.

My Queen of the Night Epiphyllum has Fungal Gnats, what would be the best way to take care of this without harming the plant and keeping them away. Thanks!
@LAyangfamily
@LAyangfamily Год назад
To prevent fungus, remember to water the pot but not plant (leaves) and give enough sun. If the plant has a large area of infection, try to cut off the infected part. If infection is not serious and just on limited area, try to wipe out using q tip premoistened with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol or spray fungicide. It will help. Good luck.

Water with BT which can be found in mosquito dunks or mosquito bits. You can add this to the soil and water as normal.

Neem Cale works very well and it fertilizer the plant at the same time. Put a about 2-3 tablespoons into a gallon of water. Let the water sit for about 24 hrs. Then water the soil, drench it well. Next time you water repeat with Neem Cake tea. That should get rid of the gnats for you. It's natural and non toxic.
