I was taught a long time ago that on the 4 and the 8 you actually shift your weight from one leg to the other. This allows the leg on the 1 and the 5 to be an "empty" leg otherwise you can't move the leg or hurt yourself. You probably do that weight transfer but not consious of it.

Hey Edgar, you're right. In this video we're talking about timing of your steps. The weight transfers are on the &s between the beats you step on, as well as the and 8 for those slower shifts. 🙌🏽 -Robin

well a complete basic is 6 steps (8 counts of music), so yes most steps are completed within basic of 6 steps. -Robin

You are counting quavers or half beats at the beginning.

When Patrick mentions that musicians count in 4's, he was counting every beat of the bar, so that would be a "quarter note" in music theory. In casual language he's counting every beat. In this video Patrick is only talking about single beats (quarter notes). Hope that helps -Robin
