As an aatrox OTP with now over 1.5mill mastery, I figured this out in S11 (I started playing aatrox August of s10 and league in feb of s10) and I’ve heard no one and I mean no one talk about it, you sir whoever you are, are very knowledgeable and I’m impressed, every video I’ve seen of yours I’ve thought has quality content, before watching this video I paused it, and explained to my partner that no one knows about deaths dance and I was curious if you’d mention it as again I thought your content was quality, AND YOU DID OMG MY JAW DROPPED, if I had not subbed with the last video I saw I would have subbed here, you sir deserve it, BUT fuck you for putting this info on blast lmao
Even at no cooldown you can still play around his W and E. Dodge his W and he won't be able to catch up to you. Punish him when E is on cooldown, and while it may be 9/8/7/6/5 for skill level he will be less mobile by then. Ghost also lets you move around easier to avoid his attacks.
As an Aatrox main, I would say bramble is very good on tanks who fight you close, bc Aatrox has almost a half of his damage in autoattacks and if youre a tank building armor, Aatrox won't deal any real damage by just poking. Also passive might work through deaths dance

You can also dodge his super long cast time predictable Q’s by walking behind him and he wont heal or do damage. His W is also the most useless ability in the game that anybody can walk out of it and now it no longer pulls because of the tether fix riot did to all abilities. But people prefer to stand still and get hit by everything and call him broken 🤯

Since aatrox applies cc while hitting, I won't be able to deny 30% of his healing (as Neeko). Even using the interaction where I can use passive when cc, cause I still take the damage with my true form, and having a melee form before would probably count the damage with my true form
It's true that Death's Dance can counter Aatrox, but for most champion, don't you want to reach your core item powerspike first? Besides, Aatrox can just ignore you and target the rest of your team.
Okay, so, from what I've tested, Death's Dance doesn't reduce Aatrox healing? From all the stuff I read online, people believe it does, but actually testing it, it doesn't seem to, which is consistent with its interaction with lifesteal. I tested first in a custom game with a friend (first against them with a chain vest, then with a death's dance instead, so they have the same amount of armor) and I did roughly the same amount of healing per Q before and after. I tested it later in a practice tool (I had to figure out how to apply items on target dummies lol) and yep, sure enough, he heals the exact same amount on a target dummy with 40 armor with death's dance, and a target dummy with 40 armor and no item. Maybe further testing is required, but it looks like that's how it works. As to why this is the case, there's a thread on reddit about the interaction between death's dance and life steal that explains it: Damage calculated in five phases: pre-mitigation, mitigation, drain, pre-apply, apply. Armor is in mitigation, so it reduces the healing (drain) afterwards. Death's Dance damage reduction happens in pre-apply, so it doesn't apply to omnivamp or life steal. This is likely intentional because it would be really strong otherwise.
One additionnal thing to mention, do not ever complete Executionner's unless you happen to have the gold and need a fast powerspike, chainsword is an absolute trashcan of a useless item. Better yet, you don't usually need grievous wounds to deal with Aatrox' laning phase so you can always rely on the team to provide grievous wounds through ignite or oblivion orb if you have a mid/jungle AP carry.
Can you do a rumble video? Personally other thantrade patterns i hbe no idea how to even exist against him. His shield and ms give him good trades, he has poke, and massive all in damage. The % max ho burn combined with huge flat damage make him impossible to 1v1, especially with his passive. Help?
I disagree with the don’t build bramble vest idea, if Aatrox doesn’t auto attack you he loses all kill pressure for the most part. Unless he’s full build lethality vs a squishy champ I can see it but against any bruiser in top lane if he doesn’t auto attack he loses the 1v1
I used to rush bramble vest on gwen vs aatrox and it always worked but after they converted his passive and w damage into magic damage (bc they wanted to nerf his lethality build) i switched to the AP anti-heal item.
Obviously only works on champions that benefit from ad for dd, and ad or ap for antoheal. If u play a tank, bramble is still good bc it gives armor and u prevent him fromm autoattacking and using his passive.
Tell how to counter irelia please. Many times I have seen her lose lane but she just keeps farming minions and after she gets bork she just 1v1s me even if I'm 3 kills and 1000 gold ahead of her and sometimes I even have bramble vest
I strugggle against Lucian in Mid, I play Ekko or Brand. I just get zoned out of CS but late game I can contribute but it would be nice to not lose so much CS. Currently stuck in Diamond.
If you struggle against aatrox with your champion pool and want an easy champion for him I would recommend wukong. His E and W are both dashes and his ult gives you movespeed and knocks up. So it es really and I mean REALLY easy to dodge all of aatrox Q's on reaction. After lv 6 you can 100-0 zero him every time you have ult up (if you are even up to this point). My goto all in is this: wait until he uses his first Q and go in. If he tries to poke you with it, you can dash with e on reaction. AA, Q, R1. Position yourself close to him, but between him and his tower. Then either AA him until he uses his 3rd Q and dash away with W>Q,R2 or just to the full combo but place youself on the tip range of your ult so his Q3 doesnt hit you. His ult is basically useless in this time because he doesn't do much damage to you. At least at silver elo I have never lost lane against aatrox after After I was comfortable with wukong.
I feel like death dance should be tank item rather bruiser/skirmisher. There are too many anti adc tank item but no anti ad caster for tank, which kinda counter intuitive. May be swap the passive of death dance and omen would be nice.
It's insane how many people don't know dd interaction, i always avoided fighting if someone builded dd if i wasn't ahead. Single handedly fucks your entire kit

As an Aatrox main I can tell you hard cc and ranged champs with mobility is all you need to kill any Aatrox no matter how fed he is. You don't even need to itemize against him.

armor shuts off aatrox hard much like graves because they pretty much only have flat physical damage, that's why both rush armor pen items pretty early
as an aatrox enjoyer, i hate death dance on my enemies. but on another note, with botrk/viego being a thing, when is the death dance gonna get some story? That shit has an Eye on it too, just like aatrox; darkin potential?
Lol i think u should rush steelcaps first, the moment he miss all of his q, the only thing he has left is his aa so by rushing steelcaps u can dodge his main dmg and reduce the left over
Avoid the outer edge of his Q as this provides him with healing, without this he loses a lot of matchups you can do this by flashing directly on top of him, or using a dash to stand directly on the champ when he uses the Q, T2 boots early are very good against Darius, Executioner's calling to reduce his healing will help a bit too, depending on the champ you play this matchup can be unplayable, or very easy.
i'm only emerald so you can just straight up ignores this comment(and also my english sucks @$$ to counter darius, you'll need to dodge his Q edge and play around his e cd, if the darius use it well it can counter a lot of your champion kit, jax e,riven 3rd Q,..... play around his passive, don't try to extend the fight for too long, if you have 3 or more bleeding stack on you, just don't the final is tips, don't be coward if you play too cowardly, he'll realize it and stop letting you touch the wave a doran shield can also help you negate his passive for a decent amount
if you play Malphite: just Q her every time she tries to jump on you, if she plays passively just poke her with Q whenever she comes close to get farm. Once she is low, ult and full combo her for ez kill. If you play any other tank: take Grasp. Rush plated steelcaps and bamis cinder for more dmg. Camille scales her true dmg on her Q quite well so you want to prioritize building more HP rather than armor. I find heartsteel as great item vs her becayuse she can't really build Bork and it also gives you a lot of bonus dmg. in early game, when you trade with her try to keep the trades so short that she cannot use her second Q on you. Without that empowered second Q she can't really outtrade most of the champions. If you play bruiser: the same thing as if you've played a tank, but you take PTA or Conqueror instead of Grasp of undying and you rush your regular bruiser items after steelcaps. Majority of bruiser items give a lot of AD and HP so 2 greats stats to deal woth Camille. In bruiser scenario, you might be able to win a long fight vs her, depending on your pick. As Darius, Volibear, Trundle, Mordekaiser etc. you completely anihilate Camille in long fughts during early game. However she has a slight edge in short trades in those scenarios(maybe except Volibear, he is the ultimate lanebully and he will win the trade no matter what you do) However if you play something like Pantheon, Renekton etc. you want to hold to your short trades and not letting her get the second Q. My personall favourite pick vss Camille is Renekton for 3 reasons: 1. He is my main(lmao) 2. His empowered W destroys her passive shield before dealing dmg, so if you time your W right after her shield procs you basically reduce her effective HP by 1/6(the shield value is 20% of her max HP). 3. if you take PTA, you can take about 2/3 of her HP with a single full combo(1 empowered ability) since you get lvl 3, so basically she overextends just 2 times in a row and she is dead. 4. Once you hit lvl 6 you can just straight up stat check her and kill her even if the fight happens at bad spot or if she plays it better. That is a thing unless she gets to something like 2 full items and she gets on her powerspike. After that you can't 1v1 her and need your team to help you. But from my experience, the game usually ends before she is able to get that 2 item powerspike.
The best way to play vs camille as a general tip is to save your CC / slows to stop her Q2. her other tools dont do nearly as much damage, so if you can avoid her Q2 by Stunning her during it, that'll stop her damage a lot.
Bro with this logic every omnivamp gets affected by DD which is intended and kinda obvious... Also bramble is not that bad as it gives armor plus Aatrox does need to auto attack. Every good Aatrox player knows that auto attacking is crucial. It reduces his passive cooldown and his passive is also an enhanced auto attack that heals a LOT.
