Before you step onto the lacrosse field, you'll need to learn how to cradle a lacrosse ball.
When I go over cradling, I like to break it down into three categories:
1. The first one is the most basic and involves moving the ball up and down 180 degrees with your stick parallel to the ground. While this one won't help you in a game, it'll allow you to become more comfortable with the ball in your stick.
2. We want to get our stick vertical in order to cradle in a triple-threat position. By triple-threat position, I mean I'm ready to pass, I'm ready to shoot and I'm also ready to dodge. In an athletic stance, we will cradle with the stick close to our ear.
3. The last style of cradling is the face-dodge cradle. This one involves a 180 degree rotation, going ear to ear in front of my face. Watch out where the butt end of your stick is, as you don't want get it in too close to your body.
Now that you know how to cradle a lacrosse ball, get out there and start practicing. Like with anything, the more time you spend cradling a ball in your stick, the better you will be.
In my next video, we will go over lacrosse tricks.
