of all the great ideas in your videos, one of the coolest things that stand out to me is how you base and flock your paper minis. Thats a fantastic idea; they look great like that.

I remember first finding this video last June and using it to construct a simple 3D prop for practice. I'm now getting into the hobby of actually making these things for games and tabletop, so let me just share my appreciation for your work. One thing I am modifying is making the interior shelves separate from the shack (I'm planning a series of these with quick themed setups using a separate piece that fits inside the shack and gives it a simple floor like a carpet or light stonework). Again, thanks for all your videos and I can't wait to get started on more projects.

Thanks for getting specific on the beads for the potions. I have seen this approach but couldn't find anything at hobby lobby that would work (which is weird). There's a Michaels literally next door to it so I'll stroll over there next time I'm in the neighborhood. Cheers!

@johnr7279 8 лет назад
Hobby Lobby has some crafty things you have to work on, but mostly has items pretty much already finished. Michael's is the place these days to get the basic components to make things yourself. Hobby Lobby has really grown more into a retail decor store.

You could put a cloth drapery over the door on the larger shack for the npc to walk through, rather than just having it open.

Hi! I’m just getting into crafting and I’m building for rise of the runelords. I thought a potion shack would be great for the dovetail festival! It took me about 5 hours. Really enjoyed the process. It’s an exercise in patience. Very rewarding!

Nice look to them think for the roof cardstock with hotglue dragged could make a nice thatched roof look. Or if using the single coragated like you did use terracotta for a tiled roof. Lot of ways you can go with this.

Hey Wyloch! I was wondering if, since you posted this video five years ago, you have discovered a faster way to paint the planks? I was thinking a base coat of black spray paint maybe to cut the time by a considerable amount, but I'm not sure if that would stink up my crafting room even if I did it outside and waited for the planks to dry. Any thoughts or ideas?
@WylochsArmory
@WylochsArmory 4 года назад
I have not - I think basing them in black with a good old fashioned brush will be just as fast as spraying, it takes about 8 seconds per plank.

Corrugated iron was invented in the 1820s, so it's use as a roof in a fantasy shack is a little anachronistic (if you care about such things). Looks great though.

Belles1fan At a garage sale, for 25 cents. What do you mean it doesn't work well? Perhaps you're not waiting long enough for it to get hot? Or maybe it's a low-heat gun...there are two standard temperatures for hot glue...mine is High Temp.

I was thinking -- for the safety of your fingers -- that the gouging can be done after you glue the pieces together. But you're using a different gluing method. A metallic, corrugated roof is a little too modern for my games. But I like the finished product.

Very coincidentally, I revisited the wood plank technique in my most recent episode. It is much clearer video, with close-up commentary. Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wZiDX71c_YQ.html

I like your vids and your techniques so far. The one thing that bothers me is your representations of the shed, the roof, and the bizarre buildings is that they look far too advanced in construction for the dark ages, middle ages and potentially, the renaissance eras. Large tin or corrugated steel roofs don't come along for quite a time yet. Blacksmiths were still making smaller pieces of metal that could be handled by an apprentice or two at the largest sizes. I don't think whole roofs would be made of this expensive metal. Certainly you can call upon magic to protect their wares, but I think the sheds should have a covering for them to give the vendor some privacy after hours. IDK--to each their own, I suppose.
@WylochsArmory

13thBear Indeed! My D&D worlds are totally unrelated to this one. Thanks for watching!

You can no longer buy the Cousins Rainbow beads anymore. Michaels discontinued them and you cant buy the same style of beads. And the beads that Michaels or Hobby Lobby suck. Unless you know of another company that carries these beads I can not find them in my area?

I just want to say that this is the MOST frustrating thing I have ever done lol. Just the wood prep. The burnt umber just fills in the da... fu... stupid “cracks” I made with the chisel :’(
@WylochsArmory
@WylochsArmory 5 лет назад
Are you swiping against the grain, not along the stick? Too much paint? Pressing too hard?
@johnwhalen7579
@johnwhalen7579 5 лет назад
Oh I’m just venting. I’ve never done this before. I am going against the grain. So I am assuming it’s a combination of too much paint, then not enough, then pressing too hard, then pressing too light. I’m a total novice so I am absolutely aware it is 100% my fault lol

This is really neat and looks great. However, corrugated steel was invented in 1829, so it's not really appropriate for Medieval fantasy unless it's also steampunk. It probably should be cedar shakes.
