Maybe you should look at the aftermath of this car. Because I took 4th place in a full weld derby with this taurus. I'm not afraid of posting my tricks online thats the point of my videos, to help people.
Get yourself a .401 air hammer and some various hammer bits. Cuts down on the working time and you can control the action with the throttle screw. You will love it.
Your doing it right mitch!! But i use a ballpein hammer i feel that it gives the crease better shape and ots a mixture between light weight and heavy. It also makes the fender tighter and stronger.
Only derby they do here is a strictly stock derby I race asphalt round track late models at but wanna enter the next demo derby and it says nothing in the rules about creasing the body abd a few other things you can do not mentioned in rules and nit under any rule at all thanks for the how to man. I hope this does help lots of hammering and work it better make a huge difference and not just a small difference where it's not noticeable. I got a huge 4 lb wedge hammer it was heavy and I just made the wedge sharper on it and it helped to crease it more. Nice thing about this is that when you do the whole car front and back and rear quarters that it just looks like a beat to hell junk car you bought off some meth head for a hundred bucks that just hit the body with hammer for fun so now they can't say this cheating its just dents that's all lol. Wedge helped alot to pinch the line
I don't recall you saying why this works. The scientific term is work hardening the metal. Basicly drawing the molecules closer. And making soft steel harder.
Bone stock or Stock class for a first time. Those are the cheapest and easiest to have fun. I prefer to run in anything but I least like full welds for full size. Full weld compacts arn't as expensive.
Lol, well I was trying to defend DM, but I see what you're saying. I just don't like people being negative about things that are meant to be informative and helpful.
@jasondog37wolf I use a tripod and software to edit all my footage of filming full derby events. The shop videos stay raw for HD and realistic purposes.
@McBuck48 I did one time. It was over 100 hours for that car. I'm sure this car is more. This car has about $450 in it, including the cost of buying the car.
Make some popcorn and start watching through all my video playlists of derby season 2014, 15, 16, 17, 18. Ran bunch of compacts and have all the perfect build videos for new drivers to get started. Also come join our facebook derby page "Demo Derby Database" Where you can post a pic of your car and see everyone elses build advice.
sorry didnt mean to sound cruel i come from a family who demoed since the early 60s won the first show i drove in in 75 ran over 200 shows in the next 38 years just cant believe the lengths guys go to try to win 500 or a thousand bucks. east guys have had incredible success with 88 to 92 4 cyl camrys . your buddy needs to not get in the middle where he"s so easy to hit and save the front til the end he"ll be better off to make every hit count radiators ,tires hit the tire 3 times&breakhis axle
creasing tin isnt gonna give you any real benefit. notching a frame will make the ass go up , youd be better off to run some beads on the insides of the quarters then undercoat it but no matter what u do 2 it its still a taurus the other cars in that heat did well because they used the back of the car .and they stayed out of the middle .if u sit still u become a target love those camrys 80s luminas aspens valiants dusters and darts
if you want a strong car take out the tank rubber lines tires anything that burns then use a rosebud heater heat the panels cherry red then spray it with a garden hose that will temper the steel rock hard then rhino line the inside of the trunk inner fender wells then paint the shit out of it then drill holes frominside of wheel wells through the doors go through tech then put bolts with big washers to door under latch mechanism tighten up bolts to suck doors to make structural strengthin back
lol my uncle did this with his forklift... 2 creases on each side all the way up, took an hour total... he only did it twice though cause the second time he almost completly tore off his trunk... ahh memories
i think if you grind the corners off that custom hammer you made and make it halfway between a cross peen and ball peen, you will not have as much trouble with it piercing your panels and you will be able to have a tighter crease.
why dont u do it like the old days? bust the windows out put a bar behind the seat and where the dash is wire the doors and run it? those r the good derbys
Smaller hits to evenly bend and shape the metal. Sledge hammer may accidentally cause too much damage to one area and make it harder to create hard edged creases in a line. I've also had heavier hammers tear the metal after it is stretched so tight.
get an 80s lumina stock theyll kill a taurus like nothing buit more power 2 ya i just cant figure creasing changing bumpers all that crap then your motor cradle falls out if youre gonna do all that build a street stock and go racing for a whole seasoin 75 200+shows later plus i set up easy 100 more cars for kids friends etc and i won just as many shows in all stock tie in +go cars as set up 2 the hilt cars crown vics valiants dusters darts gas tank over the rear end steel battery box run great
Are you mad? Lol of course he realizes that his tricks are viewed by all people. He's not the typical derby guy who cheats to the 3rd degree and then tries to hide it. He shows what he's got into the car and doesn't feel like he has to hide things XD. Some people have to just calm down
punch holes through roof 9 wire through window frame like 5 places front and rear doorsuse cutdown hockey pucks to replace front subframe rubbers put grease all over underneath and mud bog the car and dont wash it let it hardenand youll have that stock appearanceif you are gonna cheat be the best cheater out there 39 years in this sport ive seen some really crafty guysoh yeah take tennis balls slot them put them up inside the shocks so the car can bounce up &down at tech in therear& have fun
its a taurus they suck show us how to keep the rack from snapping at the tie rod yeahcrease the tin with a hammer thatll do it the whole front cradles flall out in like 1 hard shot in the front ran 1 taurus it took longer to drive on the track than it did to kill it i woudnt take a taurus to a shut fight to use it as shield oh yeah your awesome tricks dont stay secret when you post them on youtube genius
