FYI (at 27:15), for those using ACF Pro instead of Metabox, the "Exclude From Search" option is at the bottom of "Edit Post Type > Visibility" and "Publicly Queryable" is at the bottom of "Edit Post Type > URLs"
Holy cow! I have never witnessed so much valuable information being delivered from one guy in such a succinct and rapid-fire manner. Amazingly, this seemingly impossible style of delivery seems to somehow optimize my brain's capacity to process every word you say the first time you say it! Mubindid is right. "This guy is on another level."
If you think these lessons are good, you should consider joining his "Inner Circle" As a novice, I cannot tally the value I have received as a member. I think it serves beginners and pros alike. The generous, unfettered sharing of knowledge from the members and Kevin is really remarkable.
Since I’ve been watching your videos, I have been very in tune with activities that are time sucks and how I can use systems, apps etc to save time and energy.
I just discovered Kevin Geary 3-4 days ago... and man... how glad I am. Kevin, you're out of this world... really! The speed you type, interact with Bricks and at the same time talk, explaining, the dos and don'ts with utter emphasis... is only at the reach of the better Professionals, BOW meant with all meaning. WOW!
thanks for PB101 and the blueprint video. I paid so much for web development crash course of 6months in my country and didn't get close to the comprehension of what you offered. Now im ready to go next level and build better websites. I am definitely going to join the inner circle as well because I want to continue learning more of what you have to offer.
Value on value on value - You've upped my game, and my profit exponential - I made my first blueprint site after watching your "plugin stack 2023" video , but got some of the smaller yet, important things in place after watching this video. Spinning up a new project now takes seconds and not 30 - 60+ minutes !! I'd love to see a video on your basecamp setup - how you use it etc.
Another great tutorial Kevin, thanks. I added a couple more steps, I set up a 'System' Category and created a couple of posts with reminders and instructions for the 3 month rule, and I set up the User Registration, Login, Lost and Reset Password pages so that they can be customised later.
One question I have is why you don't use Bricks to design the layout of your posts. If you have a video about that, I'd love to be pointed in that direction. Thanks for such a massively valuable walkthrough. Wish I knew this years ago, but better late than never! 🙏
Last night I started watching this walkthrough and I just couldn't stop. This was something I had to watch all at once. Very relevant and fascinating material, Kevin. The stuffs you provide to your subscribers and viewers are fantastic, and I genuinely appreciate your efforts in doing so. Just one thing: I see you tweak the Automatic.CSS settings quite a bit. Given that you are the plugin's respected developer, why not include a "Set Optimal Settings" button that, when clicked by the user, applies all the "startup" parameters you customized? Afterwards, at the user's convenience, modifications can be made. That seems like a good opportunity to save some time IMHO. Thank you so much again.
Always love your videos, Kevin! Super helpful and got some additional ideas on how to tweak my existing Blueprint. You have a lot of premium plugins - would love a version (or doc) with recommended "free" plugins too. While I have many of these plugins, can't afford all of them yet. Keep these videos rockin'! Love it!
Outstanding content, Kevin!! Your channel has been invaluable for someone like me just getting started and wanting to set up processes in the most efficient way - just fantastic!
Awesome video Kevin! Followed it step-by-step in order to set-up future affiliate websites quickly. As a freelance SEO specialist I'm glad you highlight the importance of a SOP. I've had several clients missing organic results because of the lack of it. (Or even worse: experiencing a huge drop in organic traffic after a website migration. But that's another story.) Sometimes it's simply a result of unintentionally no indexing. That's definitely not necessary. So thank you for educating people in here 🙂
This is absolutely brilliant. I've learned so much from this video (and indeed a lot of your other ones). I joined the Inner Circle recently. Friggin' amazing value for all the shared insights to newbie questions.
Talked my dept head into it and now (as of this weekend) I'm rockin Bricks, Frames and ACSS (coming from Oxygen/ACSS). I _always_ setup a boilerplate and this is the video I want to see. Thanks, Kevin!
Damn Kevin, this video has GREAT information from start to finish! I never really knew about "blueprint" sites but can definitely see the advantages. I'm going to rewatch this video a few times to really make sure I take notes and understand all of the "default" settings you recommend.
As a developer, blueprints are actually a very slow process. Trust me on this, you want to examine WP-CLI the command-line interface for WordPress. Everything AND MORE done in this video can be done in ONE click.
Another great straight to the point no BS training video. Now if you could just get that postmark training video you referred to live by the weekend that would be great! 🤣🤣🤣
Cheers Kevin, there were some great golden nuggets in there that I didnt do before! I've also set up the transparent header from your previous video which always bummed me out setting it each time, but now its all in one single file! Awesome stuff!
I just worked throgh this video and got a lot of value out of it, thank you Kevin! I have my blueprint version up to speed. Thinking about buying perfmatters and pixelmator now.
Nice! I was happy to see that my blueprint matched yours about 90%. I don't add default users, even though one day I hope I'll need to do that, and I do upload woff and woff2 fonts too. Is it unnecessary?
@@Gearyco I picked up ACSS, too. I'm really liking it so far. I figured out the right clicking to automatically add variables on accident (haven't gone through the docs yet). Awesome idea ! I'm looking forward to the new cheatsheet.
As Banyan would say in Seinfeld, "That's Gold, Geary! Gold!" Geary/Jerry close enough :) but awesome sauce in this video. I have a few different blueprints that have been a true timesaver, but I still pulled out a few additional helpful tips!
So valuable to see this Kevin! Watched every second. I guess you know more time wasters most people do? I'd watch that too. One thing tho, I would not advice to setup accounts in a blueprint using the same password in case of a breach, then all sites reusing the password need to be changed - manually...
Yup, another level. "Pay attention to who you pay attention to". I'm newer to Wordpress, however after spending hours on other channels, this guy actually proves the WHY behind best practices vs how many other teach, and the difference is just obvious even to someone like me. Newbie Question though: When you set up a Team Members custom post type, I can only assume that would be specifically for team members who don't need front end or dashboard access to the site as opposed to setting them up under the WP built in Users (maybe as a subscriber) or using a role manager plugin to modify the built-in WP roles? Could you set them up under users and just not give them access to dashboard, or is the dynamic functionality only available when you start to use a CPT?
Really good question. I would only use the users role when the person needs actual user functionality. If they don’t, then the person is just reduced to being a piece of content in a database, at which point you use CPT. And keep in mind that many builders can’t query users natively. Bricks can, but many/most can’t.
Ha! So many shared behaviours. Hierarchy of browser tab position, removing the annoying WordPress screen options on setup, naming conventions. It's these very minute details that shine a light on the mindset for the detail, methodology, efficiency and care that goes into everything to deliver a clean product. That's why ACCS and Frames is the right fit, because I know the invisible steps taken to build a product are 100% inline with my own process and behaviours.
Kevin you rock my friend. Great video as usual. Do you prefer NGINX or Openlitespeed server to host your websites? If Open Litespeed woud you use Perfmatters and LS Chache together? or would you go LS Cache only?
Amazing Video Kevin. Thank you for taking the time to post this. I have just purchased ACSS & Frames. May I ask why you set up the Policy pages as CPT rather than just standard pages?
Greatest, most useful, guide ever 🌺🌺🌺 thanks Kevin 🙂 What about blog site, blog archive and blog section templates, do you make these part of the blueprint as well?
Note with regards to setting container width inside bricks: Use "var(--content-width)" instead of manually entering the value to keep it in sync with ACSS
There is a BLUEPRINT feature in LOCAL which is very quick . You would only need the AIOM when you're actually moving your site from local to staging / production.
I prefer not to dev on local installs. Especially since we have a team and allow clients to monitor progress. It’s best to dev in the live environment for us.
@@Gearyco That's because you aren't doing any dev, you are just tweaking the Bricks and settings. So it makes sense that you wouldn't need to "dev" on local. Do you even do any dev like within the child theme?
@@joshpaynedesigns No, Bricks facilitates nearly everything you would need for most projects. "Dev" is an overarching term. Lots of parts of web design fall into "dev." HTML and CSS are "dev."
Brilliantly done and executed again, Kevin! I haven't come across anyone else on the internet that delivers the type of value you do. Thank you! ps - regarding shortpixel. A lot of people recommend adaptive images. Is there a reason for using the regular shortpixel implementation over adaptive images?
First of all, thanks Kevin for these great tutorials. I enjoy watching them very much and the content is really extremely educational and valuable. You mentioned in this video that you are also making a video for an Oxgen Blueprint. I have not found a video for this though. Did I miss it, can you pass me the URL at best?
