In this video I discuss and dissect Paul Thomas Anderson’s approach to character, with a particular emphasis on the characters of Daniel and Eli in his 2007 film There Will Be Blood. I also outline how Anderson later developed this approach in 2012, with the release of The Master.

Hey, I made this video for reference, I'm a friend of Archer Green so he lets me upload to his channel. Thank you so much for the compliment, I appreciate it. I think I wasn't as sold on Licorice Pizza initially as some of his other works but now that I have had a few months to sit on it I can totally see the appeal. Phantom Thread is one of the best films of this century, and it is one that I can only see getting better with time. It's up there as Anderson's best for me, with There Will Be Blood being a strong contender for second. I'd love to make a video on it at some point so stay subscribed and we will see what the future has in store. Thanks once again.

Excellent work. To me, the introduction of There Will Be Blood, much like intro of Close Encounters. Both have a seemingly obvious musical prompt that feels like a deliberate reference to 2001. Subjectively.
