Agrawool (compostable flower foam): www.newagefloral.com/
In this floral design tutorial I will show you how to create a contemporary floral installation/floral ceremony arch using 100 stems of hydrangea and fully sustainable, reusable and compostable mechanics.
I no longer use floral foam because it is highly toxic to your health, the health of your kids if they enter your floral studio, and toxic to the environment. In this video I show you a brand new product on the market- Agrawool! Agrawool is a completely natural and compostable product that retains water and can keep flowers alive for several days.
I took this hydrangea installation down about 3 days later and most of the hydrangea was still perky. I recommend using Agrawool for installations, but only using flowers that have stiff stems. Softer stems cannot be placed into the textured blocks very easily.

This was amazing! I love the use of only one ingredient and no foam. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Stoked for this! I like working with Floral Foam (with the exception of the toxicity, waste, etc etc etc..) and when I first saw this, I thought it was real wool (yeah....). I just looked this up it seems like pretty great stuff! Thanks for sharing.

thanks for sharing your knowledge! I'm lovin 'it!! I have a question, what do you think is one of the reasons why the hydrangeas sometimes they start to die immediately when they are in green foam or Agra wool? Thanks!!

This is beautiful. thx for the tutorial. Any tips on keeping hydrangea from wilting once in the installation, especially for an outdoor event.
@floraleducation
@floraleducation 2 года назад
Thank you! These hydrangea are in agrawool, which is a compostable material that holds water. These hydrangea lasted several days before wilting! If you are creating this for an outdoor event and it's hot, I would recommend using a different variety of hydrangea, such as Peegee hydrangea, because it's doesn't wilt much- it more just dries in perfect form. You can also try to source the hydrangea locally, because it will last much longer if it's not sitting in a box being shipped for days.

Hi! I enjoyed this tutorial, thank you for sharing! Q: did you have any difficulty inserting the hydrangea stems into the Agra-wool? How do you soak it when you are using a large sheet of it. Thank you!😊

I've noticed the agrawool being difficult to use for more delicate stems. Or when it's too thick, the agrawool just pushes in without actually puncturing the wool. Do you have any advice?
@floraleducation
@floraleducation 2 года назад
Yes, it's definitely not ideal for really delicate stems. I tend to not use small, delicate stems for larger installations, but if I am using Agrawool for a centerpiece design, I will use a little stick or stake to poke a hole for the more delicate stem. This works okay if it's not hanging upside down (as it might be in an installation). I've recently started using the Oshunpouch for installations and like it a lot better because it doesn't drip and accepts more delicate stems more easily.

I just discovered your website and turned into the biggest fan!!! This creation is so beautiful!!! Can you remember how many stems of Hydrangeas were used? p.s I'm all the way in South Africa!!!

Thank you! This is very similar to the installation I will be doing this Summer. I will be using hydrangea, roses, and dahlias. Do dahlia stems penetrate the agrawool? A little concerned about dahlias.

Do you have a link for the birdcage thingy? Would like to use these agrawool -- also did you find it harder to insert with softer stems (poking a hole first?)

Beautiful! what would the price point be for an installation like this?
@a_beautiful_mess

How much would you typically charge for this?
@floraleducation
@floraleducation 2 года назад
It would totally depend on the price of the hydrangea, but I used exactly 100 stems. Let's say they are $4/each wholesale - I would charge around $1,600 for this.

The form is beautiful, but only white hydrangeas? To me this is truly boring.

Thank you! We chose hydrangea to support a small farm and to showcase that this sustainable foam product works well even on stems that really need hydration. Thanks for tuning in, even if you were bored while doing so 🤣
