The whole point of a Little Golden Book IS the golden foil spine and I curse all the journal makers who toss those (some makers who are revered, too). Brava to you for leaving that intact.

It makes me so sad when I see them cut off or covered by washi or ribbon. A vintage book with no tape left is one thing but if it there it should stay!

I always get sad when I see people remove it. I understand if it's already gone but when it's still good I just can remove or cover it!

Did you know you can actually removed the golden tape in one piece, with no holes, and reglue it. Just use your heat gun to heat the tape and the glue will release. I saw this on another video and tried it. I was amazed.

Tyvek can be purchased at UPS Stores. You can remove staples on hinge of book covers, will not effect outcome of finished product.

I left the staples simply so I didn't actually put holes in the golden part. If it was used and worn I would have pulled them.

could you use duct tape instead of the sports tape? or does it have to be sports tape?

Instead of Tyvek envelopes, I bought some Tyvek tape at Home Depot. It goes by "sheathing tape" and is about 2 inches wide by about 50 feet long.

My bad…. No more Tyvek at the UPS stores. But my hubby said if you go to Home Depot, they have Tyvek tape that is approximately 4 inches wide which would probably work just as well on the spine. However, I am not responsible for anything my husband suggests lol

What kind of tape is the white tape she's using inside the spine?

It's sports tape from Walmart you know the fabric type that's wide atheletes use for an injury or even wrapping the grip of a hockey stick etc.

I understand the desire to recycle. But the book cover looks like it is low grade card as there is a lot of discolouration. It seems a lot of work to end up with a book that is full of acid. That will eventually eat through all your work.

Honestly I'm not that concerned considering the age of some of the books we have now. I do fully understand acid free lignin free and archival quality as someone who started modern scrapbooking 26 years ago. But I also have old school scrapbooks from my younger days.... that are still in acceptable condition for their ages.

Marilyn, you might want to visit Grammies Keepsakes and look for Let’s Make a LGB journal together Part 1 (there are 4 parts total). Video was made 3 yrs ago, and will help you. This video is more for those of us who have made these journals before. No, she will not be covering up the book covers, just making a new spine. Hang in there, these are awesome journals!

Sorry it's definitely hard to cover every single bit or step in one video! The product at the end is how it stays then the inside can get decorated and filled to the owners hearts content. In this case my sister was the recipient!
