Tip for people that don’t have friends or just don’t want to ask them! Look at characters you like and/or characters that you can relate to. Look at what you like about them and take a close look at their designs. Then try incorporating the parts you like about their designs in yours, that way you have something to build on and can continue from there. Don’t be afraid to try out all kinds of designs don’t think that your design has to be a certain way. Play around with different things after all your persona is supposed to represent you. If you don’t feel comfortable with it change it into something you do feel comfortable with!
The last tip is literally exactly what I did. I iust drew me but with a few desired aspects. Such as freckles, clothes I'd wanna wear and fox bits because that's what I associate myself with!
Honestly what I personally also found best. Whenever I wanted a persona it ended up more like an oc. It may have bits of me ,but it doesn't represent me.
I didn't know there were SO many previous iterations of your sona, that's so interesting! I really love the new one, the colors really pop and the bg/overlay are super cool as well! The vibe is immaculate
My personal advice is any character creator like gacha if youre really struggling to start. It can be a good start since theres less options that you can start with so its less stressful.
I've been making personas for myself since I first started drawing digitally in 2017! and gosh my design has changed a lot! Over the years she became a pink cat girl (cuz i was obsessed) then an elf? then a demon when I made my first vtuber model! My current design finally returned to being pink but now way more androgynous and honestly feels so much like me. I feel like If I hadn't made those designs in the past I wouldn't have arrived on the design I love and relate to now! Amari isn't literally me, hell I even gave him a kinda story like the big vtubers do, but they give the general vibe of me (eg. a very tired guy who likes cute things and drawing) and look how I wanna look! Anyways, sorry for the ramble! You're advice was really good (and I think a ton of people need to hear it) and I love your design! Its super fun!!
This was interesting because I was planning to make an official drawing of my persona, the ones I have are pre-made even though the customization was done by me, but despite that I didn't have any difficulty drawing the new version because almost everything I put in the old ones are already something about me, and it's more about who I aim to be, like, I don't have colored hair in real life and I don't think about coloring it, but if I could choose another color I definitely would and that's what my persona represents.
my sona went through SOOOO many changes over the past like 2-3 years but im finally at a place where i love it to bits. i really just used things i liked aka: pink, makeup, gyaru fashion, miniskirts and blonde hair! it all came together in the perfect little amalgamation of how everyone sees me online lol
I finally figured out my persona after years of trying stuff out. One thing that I'd suggest is try considering nonhuman ideas. I always tried to make my persona a human because it was a persona of me and I'm a human but I never emotionally connected to it because it was based off my appearance and I've never had a particularly strong connection to what I look like. A while ago I wanted a new pfp but was unsure what to make it, eventually I settled on the peaking little thing you see now and since then its become a funny little slime thing disguising itself as a silly little witch head. I need to simplify it now but it the first time my persona has ever connected to me.
finding berry, my own persona was always such a hard and difficult process to undergo!! but when i did eventually get to where she is now, i used a lot of the tips you brought up in this :3 this is a great video for anyone who is reallllly struggling with making a persona that feels like them!!

This is helpful! I've been thinking of creating a persona especially since I kinda want to create videos too. Creating OC's is hard enough, so creating persona's has been taking a lot longer... Also i love your persona design and a in love with your new one! The colorful hair is gorgeous.
The last tip is what i did, i just made myself but changed a few things, at first i always drew my sona skinny with big thighs but recently i started drawing her with my actual body type and even added the little details i actualy have on my body to make it more interesting, at first i didnt know what kind of clothes to give her so the clothes kept changing untill last year where i finally made her an outfit i liked, i also gave her little demonic/Succubi parts because without them it just dosent feel like me, she was a succubi from the very begining so without those demonic parts it just dosent feel right
Funnily enough I worked kinda backwards! My OG Vtuber design was just me- Plain old human, greenish hair (at the time, when I dyed it purple, I fell in love with that instead and now my character has lavender hair coz thats the ideal tone I want for my hair) in the same cut as mine (just mirrored coz I somehow keep drawing myself with mirrored bangs ever since I was a kid) , my hoodie dress and black skintight jeans. Then I showed the design to a friend and he sat there, so used to everyone associating me with foxes and me being called "Fox mom" and having the same laugh as the fox from the Laughing Fox tiktok, that he was like "I'm sorry, I can't unsee you without fox ears"... That gave me an idea to add details of my other self-insert oc who wore a fox mask and gained three fox tails! The colors were easy - I love the mystical white kitsune, but lime green is my signature color - whenever I can choose that acidic green I will! Then the clothes - a mix of my actual clothes (I do wear a black turtle neck body suit and black pants/leggings under a skirt) and my love for Japanese culture, but also my need to have my shoulders exposed, to make my off shoulder kimono look! Originally it was the same fuck-off bright green, but that was an eyesore, so I started playing with color values till I got this kinda swampy green- With silvery and black accents, coz Im basic and as much as I love bright clothes, I genuinely rarely wear anything bright- Since I practice witchcraft, I threw a witch hat into the mix, with my second favorite color (Magenta) being an accent color (In my make up and the hat) And my new haircolor came from the fact that I was playing around with human designs for my Flight rising dragons, and the ones that have the Shimmer gene for wings have a cool gradient of three or more colors, and I have found a really nice techinque to draw their hair with those colors, and wanted to do that more often - so make a dragon in the game, find the shimmer wings with the best color combo with the lavendery base, bing bang boom done! When all else fails - dress up games do WONDERS! One of my friends made their Vtuber design in a Picrew originally, sent me their picrew and idea, I tossed together a sketch of two ideas I had, they decided what they like most about the theme (Cat girl maid who owns a cat cafe), with more floof, bows and frills than you can shake a stick at, I drew another sketch, and off it went to an artist to make a workable model!
My persona, who quickly became a character unto herself, was originally made to have the fashion sense that I love but hate wearing (so turtlenecks jeans n stuff) but now shes her own and i need a new one but im afraid the same thing wil happen
my persona used to be good but i stopped feeling like it was truely me , qnd once i was tired doodling and accsidentaly made an oc that felt really like me (an clown with an portal face,,) and i made them feel very personal to me by making them technically related to my favorite ocs and also cosmic entity because i rlly like writting lore
Awhile ago last year when I was thinking of a persona for myself, I had the idea of just to make them look like but I decided against it, because I thought of an amazing idea for the design and I love the concept a lot. so I kept it. for my persona, I went with drawing myself in a desired state mixed with reality. and how I want to dress and of course, cats. this sona in my pfp is old but still feels right

Wait, people have problem making their personas? Just do yourself with things you like or represent you, is YOUR persona after all... I didn't know some people struggle that much... 😅 My first persona was just me irl with classic Jean, Jacket, Fingerless Gloves and Beanie, but it changed as I myself change and now is me but with Animal traits and a bit more colourfull in Desing and Colors overall. My only struggle is clothe, but because I'm terrible with it haha (I know I should look more references for Form, Folds and Shading, but whatever, I still love my Persona xd)
QUESTION Why is persona important to us as Artists? Is It just about branding? Just about how u draw yourself? Or are we trying to express how we feel with the way we draw ourself? I feel Like i found just the right way to draw myself but its almost fully different from how i look and even how i dress. Im stuck in the - i want to draw myself this way- but i also feel Like People who know me wouldnt be able to Like relax with me because of It. Like they would stop seeing me as normal and might take a step back. Its kind of similar when u make the fact ure artist your personality, and then everyone around u cant associate themself with u. Help
RU-vid knew exactly what I was needing. I've been slacking on designing my persona. Does anyone have tips for silhouette problems? More specifically, I wanted my persona to have both ram horns (double horned, one pair curved and one sticking up) and fox ears, but I can't figure out how to make it look right. I wanted to put the fox ears where ears would likely be, But I can't quite make it work around the horns yet.
@@kirsch3 ohh this is a great idea ! I always love designs that do this , feels much more natural than ears just sticking out of the top of the head as well as making the design look less cluttered with the ears and horns.
I have really tight curly hair but the thing that is supposed to be my "persona" has straight hair ( i reaaly like her hair style and giving her curly hair might ruin it 🆘🆘🆘)
I could never make a character ugly enough to really resonate with If I did, I'd feel like a heartless monster for putting a fictional character through that kind of existence It's fine though. I don't need one, especially with everyone else's shining as they do
My issue is that my vtuber model is femme when i lean masc but i feel like i NEED to be femme because either no one likes the male vtubers or it’s the reverse and they get obessive and horrid fan base. :
Look for things that inspire you, or look for traits that you would like to incorporate to your sona. E.g. If you want your sona to have certain animal traits, look for characters or designs with that trait; if you want baggy clothes, look for pictures, drawings, of baggy clothes. Hope this helps!
I did the EXACT SAME THING with my character! Though a lot of people think it’s a fursona, I always have to correct them and say “no, she’s my online persona why would you say this”
Easiest tip; don't make a persona. It's 100% not required, I've been an artist a long time and I've always focused more on my interests, and the universes I enjoy like Warhammer. I like this because I don't have to worry about designing something from me, or even something wholly original. I can do character studies on Kharn, and Typhus locked in combat, or do a scene of Tomb kings clashing with Lizardmen. I have 1000 options for inspiration, and if I do want something original, I can make my own successor chapters, and characters within existing factions (I've spent a long time making a successor warband to the World Eaters, and it's been one of my favorite processes!)
if you have to look for ways to relate to your persona, its creation is troublesome to you, if you have to specifically find ways to relate, then maybe you simply do not need one?
i disagree, i dont think it should matter where u are at on finding yourself, anyone can make a sona! you dont have to fit certain criteria, because everyone is themself with their own likes and dislikes, no one is flat! not everyone immediately knows everything about themselves, and sonas can be a great tool to help with that

@@keepingatesI understand your point, don't worry! my original reply still applies because i understood your point from the start, because again, some people need help on where to start with their sona because there's a lot of components, and also, not everyone knows what they want. so I think videos like this can help a lot! and this tutorial also helps new artists/designers too, they're the ones who struggle the most with this! I do not really understand the perspective of "if you need a tutorial for a sona then you just want an oc" cause there's so many parts to making a sona that it can be overwhelming on where to start, having to look up a tutorial does not diminish or invalidate anything you want :3
