Here's an ultra quick tutorial on how to use Jupiter Xm step sequencer to create a Drum track and a Bass line. Instant fun and huge sounds from this tiny little monster synth!!! I love it!
The Jupiter-Xm is simply an awesome little beast. I was cautious at first with the price, but after I played with one I quite happily handed over my money. Roland has really stepped up recently (I know people will hate me for saying this). We have the Jupiter range, the new Fantom range and Zenology (albeit waiting for Zen Pro to arrive). I also love that with batteries I can sit and play anywhere. Gattobus shows us what it can really do, but it's up to us to really get to know it and have hours and hours of enjoyment
There's some RU-vid video of a band trying to play either Blue Monday or Bizarre Love Triangle live (no MIDI, recordings, quantizing, etc.). It's pretty messy! As KMFDM says, "our music is sampled, totally fake, it's done by machines, 'cause they don't make mistakes"
Buying an X, but I strongly considering going with the Xm again (sold mine to get the X) because of this. The keybed is decent for its size, but I wanted more.
I was thinking to buy the Xm buthere I don't have any full size keyboard and controller, and because is a Jupiter and is the perfect excuse to buy one, I bought the X and is not that bad the screen on the left. I mean, I can clearly see it and I think they didn't put it in the middle because they tried to make the X as close as possible to the 8 in design. At first I wasn't sure about this tiny screen, but it works fine. It would be amazing if the Xm has color leds like the X. Is a beautiful synth but needs more colors, like the 8 has.
@@MaximilianoSchneider I also bought the X and the screen being on the left hasn't bothered me in the slightest. If I wanted to do sound design, I'd do 99% of it in Zenology, and then maybe tweak it a little on the Jupiter. The workflow for the synth isn't that bad, but it would lose out to System-8 or other analog/VA synths on sound design. It doesn't matter to me, as the onboard sounds and Roland Cloud sounds are insanely good sounding.
@@purpl3t1m3 Well I was considering the System 8, but I never liked the green lights a lot. I have a TB-3 and is fine, but when I bought the TB-03 I realized I like more the vintage design. Anyway, I know the analog modeling in the System 8 is superior and is using the same modeling as the Boutique line (I have a couple of them and I love how they look and sound), but my concern with System 8 is how much support will have this synth, when clearly everything is moving to Zen Core.
@@MaximilianoSchneider The green lights don't bother you as much in person in a full studio. It's not my favorite design ever, but it works. Using the brushed metal ends makes it look sexy! Roland just released the Juno 60 model, and even though they don't make their roadmap public, I don't think it will be the last ACB plugout offered. It's like printing money for them at this point. I'd love to see a System-8 Mk2 that lets you store more patches and plugouts (e.g. ALL of them). Other than that, I'd be happy to buy one again (in addition to my new Jupiter-X)
Thanx for this tip it is very hapeful for me getting into my Jupiter Xm and thinking about adding a hardware sequencer on it. It actually does sequencing not so bad as I thought :)
I am amazed, not only by your music but also by the degree of knowledge of the synth. I hate the step editor and I believe a software one should be easier to manage. Overall, GREAT!
This is badass. Awesome video and playing. Subbed. This demonstrates how powerful this little beast is. It gets a lot of hate, but I think time will put it with the System 8. Does the menu system bother you?
This is great - I think I got 95% working on my Xm. When I turn on Part 2 at about 2:25 though, it's arpeggiated ?? Also, it looks like the Keyshift is different on v3.0, so I made a tweak, maybe that's where I went wrong? Thanks for this! Would love to see more
Grazie.
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing! I tried to follow it a couple of times on my X, but for some reason the Juno pad plays only in the part assigned to the arp (up to c4) so I can't play the Juno pad. I tried a split, but the split sends part 1 to the upper part of the keyboard, so I don't know what I did wrong, or if maybe there's something a bit difference between the X and the Xm.
Thank you very much for this video! Its perfect, transpose in real time on step seq parts is very important and huge advantage over all other multitrack HW sequencers such as Elektron, Korg etc. Xm is a must-have groovemachine and with external multi-zone midi standard keys keyboard the best soundbank for studio/stage ;-)
I really like the track, could you possibly make a backup so that I could continue to use it in my XM I would also pay a little something for it, thank you very much
Did the drums get changes in a firmware update? Im on the latest and my drum kit bass drum, for example, does not sound like yours at all. Its seriously gated. Im running stock on a INIT scene while following your video.
Wow that's neat! Thanks for that! Just tried on mine with an initialized scene but the Part 1 doesn't seem to arp like yours, what can I be missing? Went through the video a few time and it look to me that I correctly follow every steps. Also I noticed that when I switch to Part 4 (immediately after building the drum pattern) it's has a length of 64 by default, is that normal?
@@keyhoarder hello, I tried too but the right side of the keys are silencious, I cant play any chord though I programmed the sounds. What can I do ? Thanks
@@ggabesz80 I found a something on a great Facebook group about the Jupiter Xm, I advise you to join it. I didnt try though, these maneuvers gave me headache, so I stopped thinking too much with the Xm😅
@@mikecorbett5831 Thank you. So when you have this little transposeable track done, it can be saved as a scene? Forgive me, but I'm a little confused how the patch saving/access works. Had the same with my old Super JX10.
@@Howdy606 I have not tried this yet, but the menu process should be the same. The major differences between the X and the Xm is the keyboard size and positioning of the dials and buttons. Everything else internally functions in the same exact way.
Really strange machine. You've created something, one wrong step and all is gone. Normally the machine should ask before it deletes everything - if the next step would do that.
