You are awesome, man. Truly. I’m recording vocals on an album using actual decent equipment this time and your channel has been a treasure one of information.
This technique is really similar to what I do when im recording heavily distorted metal guitars. It’s called quadtracking, you basically record the same riff 4 times, two recordings hard panned will provide higher frequencies and stereo image and the other two (the ‘double’) fill the lower spectrum and give more room, depth and heftiness to the sound. Once again, nicely made and solid tips, Pete!
Thank You for the video! Something new to try! Used to use "Stretch" on a duplicate vocal track to get a nice effect as well. DJs do this when mixing 2 records - slowing down one of the same slightly, which is known as "jetting". If you find the sweet spot, you can get a cool effect by stretching/squeezing one of the duplicate tracks. Gotta try your technique! Thanks again Pete!
Hey my friend! Yes indeed. GarageBand iOS doesn’t have a lot of stretch features unfortunately when it comes to recorded audio, so you need to use some third party apps sometimes.
Reverb is generally what you need for this. Dial in a little of the same type of reverb on the backing track and vocals and this can “glue” them together. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-noDT5pSuV64.html
I’ve been doing guitar doubling as well..4 tracks..100%left 100%percent right..75%left 75% right..using less effects..because the 4 tracks give it such a powerful stereo sound..basically the heavy distortion rhythm guitar.. and looking into doubling bass guitar drums and lead..adding some keys behind the rhythm guitar..with the same octave
Hi Pete another simple and effective video on getting doubling vocals👍🏻Correct. I used to just copy and paste my vocals into each track but they never sounded right . So I will be using this method from now On .
Thank you thank you this is exactly what I was looking for !! Thank you so much I was honestly struggling to do this because I’m new to singing covers 🙏
Yeah, it takes some tweaking to get it sounding right. Less is more! One thing I didn't mention is EQ - sometimes you can use different EQ on the double to "bury" it a little more which an work well.
And thanks for your support as usual! My videos have all been a bit similar lately though. Maybe I need to switch it up a bit. As a regular, what do you think?
Pete johns I am upcoming artist myself and I wanted to know if I have to record twice in order to match the audio? Like as of adlibs but having that background voice ??
Im not a good singer (not at all i suck) but a tip i heard for those doubled vocals is also changing the Pan to some of the vocals idk if that could help 🤷♂️
Nice! That’s what it’s all about my friend. You don’t need to do everything on every track, but if you have enough in that toolkit of yours, you can draw on what you need in each situation. 👍
@@PeteJohnsMusic Yes, Sure, I have already Subscribed your channel, keep sharing good information on Garaze band Tutorial, it's really helped me a Lot..
Hi Pete, I've come back to this one from your "faders-down" video. It got me thinking - if you can't sing tight enough for a double (in other words you always sound a bit like a second singer), does the "double you" effect in, for example, VoiceRack:FX provide a viable double effect as are producing manually in this video? As you know, I don't sing well at all, so anything to mask that and improve my output is very much appreciated!
A really good question my friend. My buddy Mike over at Creative Sauce juts did a video about a VST Doubler. Not iOS compatible but might help you decide if this sort of plugin might help you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nOaiC2SJZNk.html
I personally haven’t had a lot of luck with these sort of plugins and prefer to layer up multiple takes. With some light tuning you can get a really good lead vocal sound.
Hey Pete I use the beat sequencer to create my drums..I found there is no way in panning my drums..until I put a headset on and realized they are automatically panned..am I right..on do I need additional tips..thanks buddy
Thanks my friend. This was recorded with my MXL 550 large diaphragm condenser. The mics I use and recommend are in this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_p_o0i3ThPg.html
Thank you my friend. Here's a link to the lyric video here on RU-vid - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4YmEDZJnVQA.html And just search "Pete Johns Never to Blame" on Spotify, Apple Music etc if you want to stream or buy it. 🙏
Hi there my friend. I'm not 100% sure what you are referring to, but if you mean when moving audio files around, what you can do is zoom right in and then the "snap to grid" turns off and you can move freely.
