To all who ask The read-only attribute is applied under one single operating system, the flash drive won't be read-only under another Windows installation either. To make it read-only under any operating system, you need a physical switch.

hi there, quick question, is there a way to make your entire USB read only, and 1 folder on the disk to be write-read ? Seen this video from like 4 years ago "How to Protect USB from Virus Permanently"... but i dont have security tabs when i go to properties... Also would the metod on your video work on a ventoy usb ?

Note that this read only trick does not work. Only works if the stick is used on one computer only :-( You take the USB drive to a different computer and it is no longer read only. So this works on the same computer only. I'm still looking for a solution that works such that the USB stick remains read only, even if you move it to a different computer.

I want my computer to be protected from manipulations in your videos. Specifically, I want to install a certain COM port that is read only before you plug the USB or hard drive into the computer. Is there any other method? I look forward to your reply.

so I bought this 512gb micro sd card SanDisk shipped and sold by amazon, the packaging seems authentic and my computer wont display it under my computer nor with disk management my nintendo switch does display it with 400gb + in storage, I downloaded a third party tool called MiniTool Partition wizard which recognizes the card but as a read only with 88.8gb and no letter assigned therefore cmd does not find it when list disk command is used. My first thought is go to be fake, or faulty?

I have a usb thumb drive that I was able to save photos using a telescope with mini computer (ZWO ASIAir) but now it is ReadOnly and won't let me write or delete the files using my PC. I tried using the procedure you show here. The CMD shows it was successful, but that is not the case.

Hi, I am trying to delete a 37GB "read only" UDF partition on a 64GB USB drive. I tried diskpart but it cannot see the UDF partition. Do you have another solution boss? Thanks in advance

This is straight up amazing! Question, the disk I'm working on still says "Current Read Only State: Yes", even after I cleared it. I did what you said, and it worked on my other USB. On this on however, it's not working. Must I go to a higher level to erase or turn off that state in the disk?

The G drive always is set to Online at the Disk management tool, the changes applied by the Diskpart will work fine. if the G drive status is (Read only state), diskpart, through windows registry change and Chkdsk doesn´t work, i´m still looking how to fix a HP 32Gb Flash Drive. many thanks for the tutorial that help so many people.

Dude I have the same problem as you, whatever I do my micro SD has always remained read-only for Nintendo cola. I don't see the disk online but with the wording "read only" and even if I enter the CMD the first status is always YES. After a long time, I still ask, were you able to solve it?

it does work. But you can't protect it from people formating the driver. But at least a beginner or casual user will be restricted on rights for diskusage. Thx man. Thx

@@Herbertech You can't format the disk either thanks to these setting. I just gave it a try. Message disk is writeprotected. ;-)

Well I have a pendrive that as the 'Current Read-only state : Yes', and I can't find a way to change that. Stupid Windows creator of Recovery Unit as change that, and I can't find a way to change that to 'No'.

Is there any way to make files on a USB stick impossible to be copied to another device? "Read only" protects the integrity of the pendrive but not the files from being copied from it.

this doesnt work. im sending my wedding photos to family in other states on a usb drive and tested this, but my other computer was able to delete the photos after performing this per the video.
