Thanks so much for your kind comment. I have a favor to ask. I have been shortlisted for a design award and it's the last day of voting. I need to get as many votes as possible to win and would love it if you could help me out. creativepool.com/annual/2022/shortlist/#EmergingTalent
For a deep dive into Interactive Components check out this Figma tutorial. There are some brilliant examples with step by step guide on how to make them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lVmH5n0PDR8.html
seperating the overaly elements into seperate artboards and then using the overlay feature of Figma is nicer as it gives you that real app feel, as opposed to making another overlay looking page altogether and linking to it
It’s a great feature but I’ve found that it’s not always the best option for engineer handover. I tend to use this more for prototyping and then the old school way for handover.
Hi. Every time I add a second overlay to the same frame (iPhone , desktop), the second overlay doesn't move in. Both elements are framed. The first overlay moves in. But the second one doesn't do anything,
Hi Will, Thank you for shared, really clear the old and new ways to aboard a prototype on Figma with Overlays. I have one question about the topic: If I have two overlays, Overlay1 open a Overlay2, How I can close the Overlay1 without using swap overlay? --I have a example when a dropdown open a modal but when I close the Modal, the Dropdown continue open. Thank you!

So what if I want all of this to happen on a colored background? When I add a background to all of this its not included in my prototype. I've tried both frame and just a box. I have many frames that I have my userflow inside, just like a website. Do I have to have all these interactive sections to be separate frames outside? Don't get it. XD is so much better for prototyping than Figma. Starting to miss it
Hey BC it should be super easy to add a background to this. You just need to make sure it’s inside the component itself. Figma is by far the best product design tool at there right now, there are a few small quirks but non of the competitors come even close. I’ve used them all through my career 👍 If you’re still struggling let me know and let’s jump into a live session to solve your issues 🙌
@@WillBrettDesign I don't get it. If I add these frames into a large container that is playing the role as my background, the content fail. They don't work as prototyped and they become stills with no interaction. It only works when the content sits outside with no additional frame. Just like in your example. There are two ways to add a background to all of this in Figma, either as an additional frame (#) or just a simple shape box. It doesn't work when I do either and move the prototype elements inside. They loose interaction properties. If I then remove the background layer the content frames works again, move them inside and they don't. What's the point? You are saying Figma is by far the best product design tool. I beg to differ. I have worked with Axure, XD, Figma, Studio, plus some minor applications that are mainly addons. I think Figma is weak as a prototype tool and as a layout editor. XD is by far the superior tool if your aiming to prototype and simulate interaction, its also a superior layout tool as Adobe have decades experience in producing accurate tools and features for designing layouts. XD is also so much faster! I'm just speaking from experience. I'm forced to use Figma due to a project I'm in as they have everything within Figma and it's a mess. The styles, the component structure etc. Awful. I'm trying my best to live trough this nightmare. Only good thing to say about Figma is that they have some features within live collaboration that is practical. Other than that I think it's messy.
It sounds like you’ve already made your mind up. But this is certainly achievable in figma. But at the end of the day a design tool is only a tool and the tool isn’t what makes you a good designer. So if your more comfortable with XD then use XD. Product designers are problem solvers. It shouldn’t matter what tool you use to solve the problem. Wishing you the best of luck
