In your video, when you create the extract, you are prompted to select the output location, but when I try this, I find that it automatically goes to a temp folder. Is there a way to get Tableau Desktop to let me specify the location when creating the extract? Or would it be better to use Tableau Prep to do this? Thanks for all your videos, Tim, I'm learning a lot!
Not really it’s dependent on your computer and ram. I recently did a video with a 160million record file. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yIg_DCX2uPY.html
Hey Tim, great work on all of your videos! In this one you've mentioned that you wouldn't use an extract with a published datasource and I was wondering why. Currently I am doing that and the performance is significantly improved but wanted to see why you wouldn't do that.
Hi Tim, I'm really enjoying your videos and finding them very informative! A small suggestion if I could make is that when you say in the video, ie, check out my other video on logical and physical tables, would it be possible to link that other video in the description so I don't have to do another search for it or look through the Related bar? It's a small thing, but it would save some time and keep me on your channel longer! :)
Iactualy link these out in the pop outs of the youtube interface but recently I've started adding them to the description as well. I fix that for this video now as well. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Tim, another great video. Thank you. Ideas? I find it confusing to select which file type is best to run on the server; .tds vs. twb and .twbx vs. .tdsx.
Hey Tim, Does the extracts , when refreshed, get stored on Tableau server ? I mean do the previous versions of the extracts still remain in the Tabelau server ? or does it overwrite the old .hyper files ?
Hi Tim, Thank you for this informational video. I'm facing an issue post changing to Extract from Live connection for huge dataset. The numbers are slightly changing, I'm unable to figure-out why the extraction deviating the numbers. In Live My data is based on Joins on Physicals layer. Request you to please share some insights for the issue that I'm facing.
It's not clear from your question what the issue is. I the extract causes numbers to change then its likely a filter in your extract causing an issue. Also have you tried refreshing your extract? An extract is like a snapshot, it only takes a picture of the data when you take it and your live is always up to date so you should refresh your extract whilst building to make sure you have the latest data. Once you publish, set your data source to refresh on a schedule so its always up to date.
Hi Tim, thanks for great videos! I am facing some difficulties with the extract and i think you can help me with it! I have one Tableau prep file that generates a hyper file and this file was previously used to create a dashboard on tableau desktop. To keep track of my work records, i need to create a new hyper file with new name and link it to tableau desktop. However when i do that the whole dashboard disappears and all the dimensions names changes to Name-Extract. Any thoughts on this?
Thank you Tim. I have been supporting Tableau extract failures and the standard training available is all about workbooks, not exracts. At Mayo Clinic Lab Department we have many extracts that run 12 hours before they ae killed. 10s of millions of orders processed daily. Need to define extracts in SQL so we can tune and force plans. Would also love to see an example where extracts are loaded from stored procedures on the DBMS
Hi Tim,I want to know how extracts are stored? Suppose I have used 4 CSV files(A join B Join C Join D) to create Extract, then does tableau will create seperate extract of 4 CSV also? and then will create final output extract?
Hey bro..pls make udemy course with some database connections and important tricks must know in tableau..it will rock as no one is exploring to other databases and tips and tricks ..
What's your questions here? whats the error? whats FRDS? it might be best to get some support in your organisation as your likely going to share information you shouldn't publicly. Tableau support is also an option or if you have more information reply tot his comment but keep out anything conifdential.
