Great video! If someone is feeling overwhelmed by plants my advise is to stop buying plants for 6 months, purge a few, THEN focus on making the plants you have adorable with pruning, finding the perfect pot, getting planter decorations like crystals/fossils for the soil, and/or a beautiful unique trellis. Spend time rearranging and deep cleaning what you have instead of acquiring more plants. I LOVE refreshing my plants with the perfect planter and a few crystals in the soil 😍
I live in a pretty small apartment and I have A LOT of plants so I know it would be cluttered by these design standards but, I make sure all my pots are white so that streamlines things a lot! Also, floating shelves for plants are GREAT.
I grew up in San Diego, CA. Both my late parents were Master Gardeners. But they focused on outdoor and shade-house plants. My dad didn't have a green thumb, he had a green arm! Ar one time or another, he had every flower that didn't need the cold to grow. Since I live in an apartment, I grow houseplants. I have a little over 100 plants currently. Thank you for this video, it gave me ideas.
I so related to this video! I’m seriously curating my collection at the moment and want it to look less hoard-like and more intentional. I have to remember other people live in this house too and need to respect their feedback too.
This made me want to drop everything and start designing! I am looking forward to seeing more styling videos as you renovate a room every month in the winter
This is such a well done video! Over the last year, I have gotten more into houseplants, and since I don't have a ton of light (north-facing windows), I've had to get grow lights and some shelves for my plants. With the amount of plants I have now, I've been thinking that it looks overcrowded, but didn't really know how to fix that. Looking over this video, it's soooo helpful and I love that she not only incorporated tips for just general styling, but focuses on the plant themselves (i.e. lighting, leaf texture, etc.) I feel like any past videos I have watched to try to style my plants, they use the plant as more of an aesthetic, rather than practicality (like putting a calathea or hoya in a dark corner) which doesn't make sense. Definitely going to refer back to this video as I continue figuring out my space!
Loved this video! For the last spot in the middle of the top row of test tubes, it might be a nice option to put some sort of art piece/wall sculpture, or even a mirror like the one at 18:15, as the kind of focal point to top off the pyramid of tubes
Ooo or a small mirror. Or something that matches your bed. It looks sooo good in there! Love the fabric cabinet, my fabric is in a huge storage bin. Such an eye sore in my closet 😅
That maximalist look of your other wall is lovely. I think more empty pic frames with propigations inside may be fun. Or smaller gold mirrors something stacked like how you did your other wall. I.love that wall!
Yes, something with more presence...I love the test tubes but the glass disappears into the wall, which makes the plants stand out, but I feel something to balance out the wooden bed would look beautiful. A circular mirror in wood or wicker, or artwork in rich earthy tones. The room looks beautiful, I love the fabric cabinet also.
Loooooove this video! Wow so informative. Stuff I already knew but couldn't describe. I style this way but I did not use guidelines. Having those guidlines will save so much time finding the right setup!
I just realized that you’re so close to 60k subscribers-that is amazing!! This was yet another great video. I actually initially got into plants because I liked the decorative/aesthetic aspect of them… and then I fell in love with the plants themselves 😅
This was great, I’ve literally been thinking I need more styling of my plants! I’ve just started collecting plants over the last year and most are still in nursery pots and jumbled together by the window or near or huddled under a few grow lights, I need to “grow up” my space more! This video was helpful, thank you and your space looks great!!
What wonderful idea's to give us, I for one have problems styling plants now it will be so much fun to change things up. Thank you both for this video.
YES!! This is awesome!! I’m just started an interior green space design company (Botanical Royalty) leaning more towards designing for local small businesses. I live how you and Paige turned your “meh” space into something cozy and beautiful.
I loved this! I've been trying to get my plant spaces styled to look less out of control. It was all about collecting in the beginning, but it's time to make it look more intentional.
Wow it looks great. Not cluttered, and very cozy and nice. Not too many plants, but just enough! Paige gave some great tips, now I want to rearrange everything in my room lol. Need to find out my style first hehe, will think about it. Thanks for the video, super fun and helpful.
I loved this video so much!! Styling plants and home decor are some of my favorite things! I’ve gotten all my sisters into plants and it has been so fun to help them style them ☺️ Cant wait for more content like this!
I truly like the variety of content you select for your videos! This one is so fun and informative. I've subscribed your channel since way back when you were still teaching & had plants in your classroom!
I live in a ski town in Colorado and love houseplants but I have learned that the really tropical looking ones I don’t like in my home because it just doesn’t seem right when seeing them with the mountains in the window. So I have curated my collection down to the ones that seem to fit my taste better by trading, selling and giving away.
I’m glad someone else has these same design questions - BUT I still have about 100 other plants to find a place for in my house. I need this on steroids.
I’ve gotten some really decent houseplant picks from Micheals. They’re not all good, but some look believable. I got a begonia Maculata pick from their spring line that looks totally believable on a top shelf.
I’ve also just started trying to style my plants more so this video was so helpful!! Also- I watched this about an hour ago & am getting ads for the console you got at target🙃 the internet is creepy.
I've lived in my apartment/loft for over a year now and felt kind of bad I still hadn't found my style. All of my plants are kind of lined up on the railing in the loft area but I do have a big empty window in my living room that i may introduce to some of my plants!
I have always had plants wherever I was living and grew beautiful now I have moved too the home my parents left me and all plants I had are now dieing I don't remember any houseplants but on the outside there was flower and plants please help e with this problem my house is not happy place
Great tips! I'd add that if you're 5 foot tall like me, you may want to put the plants that don't need so much watering on the top (such as snake plants, but also plants that are in water). This way is not a huge effort to water it constantly =)
That was a good interview Becca and we got Great tips from Paige. Thank you so much for sharing. I love how your styling over the piano finally turned out .
Omg I was JUST thinking of watching some videos of yours again!!! What a timing! Edit: Oh my gosh I now finally know why I had this icky feeling about one of my plant areas!! I only have snake plants there!! I'll definitely will try to variete the textures there now!
The sorry girls did a video of "plant survivor" where they saw which plants would work in a bathroom with no window. Obviously you'd need to bring them out for light after a few weeks but they did pretty well!
Love love love this style of video and watching you style your home. I struggle with plant styling in my home while having animals and I'm excited to implement some tips and tricks to make my home "luxe"
Thanks Becca & Paige! Very inspirational! I have collected plants, figured out what kinds work well in my northern NV, USA home (dry, mountains give me a “winter”) which plants go with which N or S windowed rooms, Hung some plant hangers, used just about every surface for plants (except kitchen and bathrooms) so now is perfect time for the final touches, the “styling” I have put off. Ha ha, even used “outside” plant hanger stands inside - black metal foldout things, but cost is issue to replace stuff right now. You gave me some suggestions to try to make things look better, slowly I will work towards better solution.😘
Becca, when you said, "I think I'm more of an earthy-color lover, like greens, browns, oranges, that's my vibe..." I had to smile because, "HELLO! You think?" Look at the shirt and lipstick you're wearing, the shades on your eyeglasses' frame, the deep color of you nail polish, the orange scrunchie around your wrist, and how harmonious they all look with the dark brown on your hair and eyes. You HAVE found a color palette you're strongly drawn to and had not even noticed it.
Hey Becca! I have a question- I have this beautiful huge banana plant (like 11ft tall) and I noticed yesterday it’s covered in spider mites 😭 I am going to try the remedies to save it but I was wondering if you know if this kind of plant can be cut all the way back and re-grown?
I consider terracotta to be neutral. Though, I agree that too much of it may be overwhelming for an all-white space. Thank you for this video; it's nice that the design side of things is also being shown here. 🍂🍃🌿🍁
Great tips! I think you have a bit too many plants 🤭 and i love plants, but less it’s more! I feel that when you have less plants, looks more elegant, more pleasant to see. I try not to get crazy and buy too many plants for the same reason, it’s hard I know! 🫣
