I get that it was an artistic choice in this case, but it is not blended enough to be realistic, it borders on impressionist in its current state, not realistic. It does have a soul and a lifelike feeling due to the great execution in the eyes, maybe that's what you meant. Also, pastels are not the medium for realism, the choice to go more impressionist was very fitting.

Jackson’s Art supplies do their own range of handmade pastels which are lovely and are reasonably priced. Similar to Unison- a top make, which are expensive. They also do a cheaper range to experiment with which have flat sides so they are easier to draw with, also water soluble.
