That's a great question! Honestly, it depends on your goals on IG/social media and whether or not it's a point of sale for your business. I have one client whose only goals on Instagram are Brand Awareness and providing value/educating. We learned they get most of their leads from email marketing, and when we do post sales-y stuff on IG, it does not perform as well. I have another client who has their ecomm set up on IG, and that's because they were getting a ton of biz inquiries via DMs. I personally don't find social media as a place for closing sales, but it looks different for every business. When in doubt, balance is always key. I think a well rounded social profile for a business should include storytelling, connection and promotion. Hope that helps!!
